Though a time tested and beloved tradition here in AARland, the comedy AARs were not voted upon as much as some of the other categories. However, we did get votes for 9 different works and have our clear winner. Thus I am proud to present the 2023 Comedy AAR of the Year awAARd to:

It started fairly close but by the end, Midnite Duke took a resounding lead. Coming in second with the silver cup...

A previous winner in this category, Peter's work is still going strong. And third place goes to a tie -

I know at least one of these writAARs finds it humorous in itself that the AAR was considered a comedy, but the masses have spoken. ;)

An additional 5 more AARs were given nomination and they are (in order of their vote count):

In all, a great slice of AARland and I know that each writAAR appreciates your support. Congratulations to one and all and now the floor is open for your own congrats, thanks and discussion of the works if you so wish.

My congratulations to all the winAARs and nominees!

...

Hold on, what's this? I'm in this list? I'm... funny? Or better said, my AAR is? Impossible! This must be a mistake, count the votes again coz!

Nah but seriously, thank you for those who voted for it, it's definitely too much honour for how short and simple that AAR was but I very much appreciate the nod.

Congrats to all the winners, the writers, the voters, and the readers! It is awards like this that encourage writers to keep writing and readers to try their hand at it.

No worries, @Tom D. I'm having the same reaction over here. XD

Regardless, my warmest congratulations to @Midnite Duke and @Peter Ebbesen for their hard-won achievements. Additional congratulations to the other writers who lifted our spirits this year.

Congrats to @Midnite Duke , @Peter Ebbesen , @Macavity116 , @Eurasia and all others nominated.
Like a few others, I do find it funny (an intentional and ironic word choice) that my AAR received a nomination in this category. It must mean that some folks liked a few funny bits that were sprinkled into the mix. Thanks to those who noticed.

Congratulations to all the winners, especially @Midnite Duke! Solid comedy AARs tend to be somewhat rare in my experience, so the winners should be very proud of that accomplishment.

Congratulations winners!

And thank you to @TheButterflyComposer for your vote for Shining Stars! The irony is discussed here. :)

Congratulations @Midnite Duke! Very well deserved for the capers in Avon.

A fine (and, one must admit, occasionally baffling) range of AARs on display in this category. But I would not have it any other way. Good show everyone!

Last night, I dreamed that I attended the YAYA party at the Garden. As I was early, Dewey Cheatem asked me if I would help the old man, who was pushing a broom, set the table and chairs. I agreed with Toby that I should have been a cowboy (Farewell Toby Keith, 8July1961 to 5February2024). I helped Anne Howe stuff some envelopes.
Then, I saw the greats file in. There was King @HistoryDude of Vladimir and King @Chac1 of Denmark chatting at a side table with Basileus @Idhrendur of the Byzantine Empire and Count @Tom D. (upcoming episodes unless you object). @Nikolai was popping out of walls and urging one and all to vote at the ACAs. (One of my favorite scenes was having @Nikolai pop out of a cliffside during a batman climb.) Sultan @El Pip of Egypt was refereeing a squabble between Emirs @Wraith11B and @TheButterflyComposer over some poor patch of the Sinai Peninsula. King @Rensslaer of Maghreb said that he did fear the d'Ivrea family, but he was sitting with his back to the wall in a corner between Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed (Farewell Carl Weathers, 14January1948 to 1February2024). King Rens was feeding a tidbit to Lord Meow-Meow or @coz1's bulldog, UGA. Adm. @Eurasia was escorting Count Progon and his seeing-eye horse, Trigger. Adm. @Bullfilter and Doux Gjin were plotting to confiscate the baklava and ouzo for The Butterfly Effect's Aussie tankers. Adm. @DensleyBlair and Duchess Jelena were showing a group of children from Saint Theresa's orphanage, the night of their lives. The @Macavity116 family was out in force. Granny and Pop had their six-shooters in case of trouble, sister RS91 was trying to get @coz1 sponsor a trip for her to retrieve for the Univ. of Georgia, while Mac was trying to keep the mayhem to a minimum. I promised a duchy to @The Kingmaker (kingdom would be better) and counties to @jak7139 (I am sure that you have appeared in Avon, but I do remember the role, sorry) and @starkwolf (upcoming unless any of you object, your AARs will receive shout-outs). Queen @coz1 of Ireland took the podium and begin to announce winners gameplay to Adm. @Bullfilter, historybook to Adm. @DensleyBlair, narrative to Coach @coz1 of Bulldog U. and comedy, bronzes to Adm. @Eurasia and Lt. @Macavity116. When it was announced that the silver went to the 'Desert Dane' Duke @Peter Ebbesen of Damascus, Viola and Sif gave Peter hugs and kisses. I awoke as Queen @coz1 announced the gold to Avon. Waking on the couch, I notice Dewey Cheatem in his sharkskin suit, Anne Howe in her 'sexy librarian' clothes and a gold medal on the table. I ask what happened. Dewey says that there was a mix-up while I was helping with the envelopes. Dewey said that Queen @coz1 is agreeable provided that Anne helps her to upgrade from an abacus to a slide rule and when her consort dies, she gets a boy-toy from Epirus (non-Progonovic). (Sorry @coz1, the character is female and a wonderful mirror image of Queen Margaret as an English Queen of Ireland living in France.) Dewey says, that while Duke @Peter Ebbesen is agreeable, that Viola wants a galaxy but will settle for an empire.

Everyone thank you for your votes and well-wishes. (I think that all well-wishers got mentioned in the prior chapter and hopefully none got offended, especially @coz1 and @Rensslaer.) I will treasure the gold medal (and only polish it three times a day) until @coz1 recounts the ballots and gives it to the true winner. Congrats to @Peter Ebbesen, @Eurasia and @Macavity116.

(@coz1, did I go over the time limit in my acceptance speech?)
