Comrades! Today we stand at the dawn of a new age. We, the proletarians of the Rhine, have thrown off the Prussians tyrants of Berlin and secured the right for self determination and the rule of the people. We have defeated the counter-revolutionaries who attacked us from all directions and stand ready to revolutionise society. We are the only people on this earth who hold our destinies in our own hands and we shall never let go!

Yet our People’s Republic faces many difficulties. We are a pariah amongst the bourgeoisie Republics and Ancien Régimes of the civilized world. We are despised by everyone from the Tsar in Russia to the petty bourgeois trader in London. But we are the heroes of the people. Every worker, every peasant, every oppressed soldier and troubled artisan is our ally.

It is our ambition, no, our responsibility to spread our revolution across the world and awake the oppressed masses from their slumber.

Let the ruling classes tremble at a Communistic revolution. The proletarians have nothing to lose but their chains. They have a world to win.

WORKING MEN OF ALL COUNTRIES, UNITE!

An Explanation of the Interactive Element of this AAR:

- Welcome to ‘’Let the ruling classes tremble’’. As I have written in the title this is, unlike my many previous AARs, an interactive AAR. You may remember that this genre of AARs became very popular after the Realpolitik phenomenon but after getting on the wrong side of the moderators virtually all of these AARs were shutdown. I hope to help bring some sort of revival to the genre but I shall be doing things rather differently.

- As you may have noticed this AAR is not based in some democratic state filled with new parties but is instead based in a young and fragile Socialist Republic. There is only one party – the People’s Party – but within it there are several factions. You will be introduced to these factions at a later date.

- Each of these factions have very different outlooks to how the VSVR should progress towards a socialist paradise so one of them needs to take a lead. Each faction will look to draw electoral support from the membership of the People’s Party – that’s you guys.

- You do not represent the entire populace of the Republic but instead you represent the party membership. You shall routinely be consulted on important decisions for the Republic through frequent votes. At the start of the AAR I will ask you to vote for one of the factions which will take power for a period of five years, after those five years you will be able to vote again.

- However this system is anything but rigid. One of the main things I hope to do with this AAR is to develop the Republic from an infant People’s Republic onwards into a mature state. Depending on both your votes and the actions of characters in the AAR your power may be weakened or strengthened. For example if, somehow, a Stalinesque figure of reactionary dictatorship takes power then your voting power will be significantly weakened but if the Party falls into the hands of unconfident and strongly democratic persons then you could end up directing me in almost everything I do from new factory building programs to where I should direct influence points if any.

- However to keep this an interactive AAR I promise that even if we do end up with a dictator I will consult you routinely.

- Whilst you may of course align yourself to a faction and campaign for it you cannot become a ‘member’ of it.

- When there are votes at the end of the update I shall write a short section in bold which will simply mark out the options you have to vote for.

- You are free to abstain from any and every vote. However if you do vote please do one of two things: place your vote on a post of its own, or if your are voting in a post where you are also commenting then please place make sure your vote is in bold so I will see it.

- This just about sums up my idea of how the interactive element of the AAR will go. If you have any questions feel free to post them in this thread or drop me a visitor’s message on my profile page. ;)

The Rules:

- I as host reserve the right to veto any action any player wishes to undertake: To consolidate the stability of the AAR, to stop interference with the normal functioning of the thread or simply because I feel like it.

- Readers may not create their own political parties or factions. The only factions that exist in this AAR are the ones that I present.

- Readers are free to align themselves and vote for any faction that they wish to so long as I have made it clear that the faction is either still in existence or standing for election.

- - Try to keep the role-playing to a minimum – I would like to ask everyone to refrain from inventing characters and to use their own nicknames at all times in this thread. This is to avoid confusion.

- Campaigning outside of this thread is forbidden.

- Please refrain from spamming or inciting hate.

- I usually have a rather full PM box so if your wish to contact me about anything to do with this AAR could you please use my profile visitor message unless you are desperate to keep it private.

- By taking part in this thread I assume you have read these rules. If I feel that these rules are being broken I will first post a warning in this thread, if the offending behaviour continues I shall not hesitate to inform a moderator.

Oh Yeah :D
You are gonna need some interactions(readers help) if you are going to start up in Central Europe as a pariah to monarchs :p

This sounds like fun! I think I'll join.

Oooooh! I vote that we invade the USA and force them to release the Manhattan Commune! :)

You work fast, don't you? Count me in.

Ay caramba! Or however it's spelled.:p Glad to be aboard.:)

I shall follow, before this gets closed.
And if this does not get closed, then you quit playing due to revolts. :p

oh yea, I am so optimistic.

Glad to see so much enthusiasm. Just so you know I've developed a plan of action for the opening updates of the AAR:

Tommorow I will present to you the members of the Central Committe who will be the first generation of characters in this AAR. I don't want my update on the revolution to lose space to me talking about each of the people (coincidently they are all RL Leftists from the era). I'm sure you'll all recognise Marx but I doubt more than handfull will know who Proudhon is and I'd be quite shocked if anyone knew anything about Weitling.

Then I will do an update on the revolution itself.

Then an overview of the situation of the VSVR.

Then I shall present to you the factions and give you your first chance to vote. I will present the plan of action each faction has for the next 5 years and you'll take your pick, I'll then select that faction and stick as close to the plan set out as I can.

Alright, I'm new to this kind of thing, so what exactly is an AAR? To me, it sounds like some kind of roleplay kind of thing. If that's what it is, then I'm all for it. :D

BTW, just curious, but are there any Fascist type factions within the People's Party?

Ok AAR is an After Action Repport which means that the player ( plays ) and then show us what has happened. . .
Because is a Socialist revolution I would not think there is any fascism allowed.

Well, fascism was (originally) a form of socialism...I would think that people wouldn't really distinguish much difference between them, and therefore wouldn't really care. Then again, fascism didn't really even exist until the 20th century <.<

Ah, oh well, I don't really care that much, I just wanted to know. I'll still participate ^.^

Also, what exactly is the VSVR?

@ Seek75: First welcome to the forums and the AAR forum.

Basically an AAR is a story written by the player about a game they have played. However, just by looking round this section of the forum you'll see that things have developed a bit from that basic principle. I usually keep my AARs very close to the game but try to make the world a little more believeable if I can.

The VSVR is the country that I have modded into the game. The initials stand for Vereinigte Sozialistische Volksrepublik - United Socialist People's Republic to you and me. ;)

In game I have changed the usual parties into my factions. The Communist Pary in game is the Marxists, the Liberals the Anarchists .... From game start all parties are active expect for the Fascists. I changed the Fascist activation date to 1860, I'm not sure whether it will work or not but the hope is that my Fascist party will become active around that date. This faction is called the Militarists.

If you horrible plebians corrupt my beautiful Republic to a disgusting degree I guess the whole state could eventually become a Fascistic state. Afterall Fascism is merely a horrifically corrupted version of Socialism. Remember Mussolini's political background? ...
