Yeah...... so this is clearly not going to happen....
I haven't worked on this thing for more than a year, and for all that it was such a huge part of my life, my writing interests have moved elsewhere, away from WW2 and I think it's time to face facts.
I am officially discontinuing this.
So what would have happened?
Well, the remainder of 1944 and most of 1945 would have seen a number of massive, sweeping battles in Eastern Poland and northern Romania where the Allies, under great losses to themselves, would have destroyed the Red Army's mechanised forces, eventually marching on the Soviet border. In early 1946, twin strikes using the first two Nuclear devices against Leningrad and a major Soviet troop formation in the field would have pretty much broken the will of the Soviet military leadership, leading to Stalin being lost and the USSR being ruled by a Military Junta that would have sought an immediate peace with the Allies. Terms would have been dictated by the impossibility on enforcing much of anything on the Soviets with anything but the threat of further nuclear strikes.
TLDR to those terms would be that the USSR is to recognise the (slightly adjusted) Polish pre-war border and that of Romania as well as Finland, while being allowed to continue the war in Asia, though that would have mostly been academic, as the USSR was pretty much done at this point. (Seriously, something went wonky in the AI, and they had a HOI4 style inability to produce anything due to lack of resources.)
In the east, the Allies, after taking Formosa and later Okinawa, would have started serious air attacks against the Home Islands, with what was left of the IJN failing to hold back the Americans. Eventually, and lacking a Manhatten Project, they would have picked off the surrounding Islands and blockaded Japan. With all the humanitarian issues involved. By early 1947, a limited American landing on Kyushu and the death of Hirohito in an air raid would have collapsed what was left of Japan and the war would have ended.
Cold War shenanigans would not have been far off.
Ian and Felix would have returned home, built their families and so on (with Felix bringing back a German war bride of all things) and so on. Ian would have died in the late 1980s, Felix a few years after that.
The Cold War would have fizzled out in the 2040s, after both sides looked at the world and asked themselves why the f*ck they were still doing this.
