Instead, we're going to see 7th Armoured getting to field test a small piece of kit the boffins have cooked up...
*Unleash techporn geekery*

Centurion Mk.3 you say? The one with the 20pdr boom gun of mayhem, which I believe is capable of punching straight through the heaviest armour on a Tiger II, out of the other side and then making a nasty dent in the one behind it. I doubt Germany has enough tanks left for this to be an issue, but nice to have the firepower nevertheless.

Of course the Soviets do have plenty of tanks, but if you are facing mere T-34s then a good gunner could take out 3 or 4 with one shot (assuming the Soviets oblige by lining up neatly).

*Cloak techporn geekery*

In any event I look forward to seeing these mighty beasts in action. :D

Turns out, my idea didn't work, so I had to scrap it. It was supposed to have been a conversation between HM the Queen and the PM about Hitler's death, but she is very difficult to get right, something I don't want to do without. So for the moment I am giving up on that.

Instead, we're going to see 7th Armoured getting to field test a small piece of kit the boffins have cooked up...

Ah you mean the new goggles for tank commanders. A revolutionary step forwards.:p

Pity about that but get things out when you can. Would be difficult I suppose to envisage a talk between the young new queen and the elderly Churchill, let alone on a subject like that.

Ah, someone caught it. Yes, the Cent as introduced is going to be a Mk.3 in many respects. The first production models are not going to have either the heavier armour or the ER tank bolted to the back (the latter will be pointed out fairly quickly and should be not too hard a fix) but other than that, it's a Mk.3. Eventually we're going to see something like the Mk.7 in many ways, but as much as I would love to see the divine Royal Ordnance L7 in this war, it would be taking things too far.

The 20 pounder was developed on the maxim of "moar dakka" when it came to a successor of the 17 pounder in the AT role, which should come in handy. The Soviets haven't been standing still either, as TTL will see the T-44 deployed in great numbers by the summer of 1945. In any event, the Centurion will be the face of Allied armour for the remainder of the war, just like the Crusader was for the initial campaigns, and the Cromwell/Comet for the middle parts.

Come to think of it, any observer from the real world would see the rest of this war as very much like Korea in many respects, what with Jet aircraft everywhere and what would have been 1st Gen post-war tanks and helicopters in use. By the same token, the T-54 appearing near the tail end isn't too out there... hmmm... *starts making notes*

stevep. :D Yeah. She may not be my monarch, but still deserves some respect in my opinion. It doesn't help that writing anyone who is alive in the real world comes very difficult to me, no matter who he is.

Yeah...... so this is clearly not going to happen....

I haven't worked on this thing for more than a year, and for all that it was such a huge part of my life, my writing interests have moved elsewhere, away from WW2 and I think it's time to face facts.

I am officially discontinuing this.

So what would have happened?

Well, the remainder of 1944 and most of 1945 would have seen a number of massive, sweeping battles in Eastern Poland and northern Romania where the Allies, under great losses to themselves, would have destroyed the Red Army's mechanised forces, eventually marching on the Soviet border. In early 1946, twin strikes using the first two Nuclear devices against Leningrad and a major Soviet troop formation in the field would have pretty much broken the will of the Soviet military leadership, leading to Stalin being lost and the USSR being ruled by a Military Junta that would have sought an immediate peace with the Allies. Terms would have been dictated by the impossibility on enforcing much of anything on the Soviets with anything but the threat of further nuclear strikes.

TLDR to those terms would be that the USSR is to recognise the (slightly adjusted) Polish pre-war border and that of Romania as well as Finland, while being allowed to continue the war in Asia, though that would have mostly been academic, as the USSR was pretty much done at this point. (Seriously, something went wonky in the AI, and they had a HOI4 style inability to produce anything due to lack of resources.)

In the east, the Allies, after taking Formosa and later Okinawa, would have started serious air attacks against the Home Islands, with what was left of the IJN failing to hold back the Americans. Eventually, and lacking a Manhatten Project, they would have picked off the surrounding Islands and blockaded Japan. With all the humanitarian issues involved. By early 1947, a limited American landing on Kyushu and the death of Hirohito in an air raid would have collapsed what was left of Japan and the war would have ended.

Cold War shenanigans would not have been far off.

Ian and Felix would have returned home, built their families and so on (with Felix bringing back a German war bride of all things) and so on. Ian would have died in the late 1980s, Felix a few years after that.

The Cold War would have fizzled out in the 2040s, after both sides looked at the world and asked themselves why the f*ck they were still doing this.

End of an era indeed.

May I be the first to offer congratulations and many thanks for this wonderful work and all that has spring from it.

Truly, this was an epic of an AAR.

Thank you for making the effort to formally end it and give us that brief summary, this work was too good to just get abandoned without comment.

Good luck on your future writing endeavours elsewhere. :)

I usuallly always put in a summary of events when I discontinue something. My readers deserve at least that much

The main reason why I stopped is that I looked through the folder on my drive at random and saw the last modified date. I realized how long it had been and that I had no real motivation... Sad, but that's the way it is.

Sorry to hear its ended but amazed you keep up with writing such a detailed AAR for so long with such a fascinating world, Many thanks for so many hours of fascinating reading in the world you created. Also for introducing me to the HOI/AoD world - albeit I can't see myself returning to it for quite a while as my gaming is currently focused around my Middle Earth addiction.

No point in you continuing it after such a break and especially when its something like a decade since the game was actually played. Also thanks for the summary of the events, both in WWII and the longer term.

Best of luck with whatever your doing now and life in general. Keep happy.

Never say never. I still like this world, and I still have ideas for the verse, but if, and i mean if, I write some more in this world, it'll be in a very different format, in another place (that I would link) and probably be a relaunch more than anything.
