I am up to 2018 and I had a funny vision of our leaders being introduced by Vince McMahon for tag-team action with the SCW teams. In the red corner, Everyone's favorite dolly Chucky de Gaulle and his partner Unka Hunka of Burning Love, Unca Joe. In the white corner, the Hitter and Ler misser, Little Addie and his partner, Saint Winnie of the little Church on the Hill. Now Winnie, no victory cigars until after the event.

@El Pip, thank you for this mammoth endeavor. I keep hearing about plot, but exploring rabbit-holes is the most fun. In one of these holes, we will probably find the Templar's gold.

And another soul is lost to the siren song of the top of the page... it happens to all of us I suppose.

So, you guys... battleships. Thoughts? Personally I think they are neat.

Pretty. Neat.

Overrated...

Capital ships in general are overrated, except for the aircraft carrier... and possibly the "boomer" (SSBNs). Every time a navy gets focused on the Big Bad ships, the real ships that they need to help themselves win the next war (inevitably, logistics and small to medium escorts) are an afterthought.

Are they as overrated as tanks? They never won a war...but they more than tanks raise a ton of tension and war rattling.

Please forgive me for stealing the top of the page and delaying the next update by weeks if not months. I plead ignorance for I was looking at page that I was reading and not whether it would steal the page top. Do we resort to generic spam or can we debate which causes blindness quicker: hardcore tractor-pron or softcore tank-pron?

13 more replies...mmm...

The British Empire was bad, actually.

Tanks aren't overrated, that's Heresy in this thread!

As @El Pip is always keen to point out: no one weapon system has ever won a war on its own.

No one topic has ever spammed up a Butterfly Effect page on its own.

Are we sure about that? I thought a few pages back we went like three for three discussing vertical launch cell availability for various escorts with regards to self defense capability of aircraft carriers.

How about the 1936 Alf Landon election? Several pages of nothing but votes. That was under Florida rules which were vote early, vote often but only once a day.

Eh...

*looks at previous comment bear pit traps*

I'd say I managed it once or twice.

Elections are also super spammy everything they happen, yes. And whenever economic theory and practice comes up in a big way.

And dockyard and shipbuilding.

And unions.

Regardless, we do have ample opportunities to encourage (erm, "pressure") the beloved author into another update. For instance, there's only seven posts until top of the page...

As irrational as it may be, in my heart, I'm more of a battlecruiser guy. Their more slender hull shape and the sheer speeds that those big battleship calibre guns get propelled at more than make up for the reduced armour. Destroy everything that can keep up with you, and run with ease from what can destroy you...

Ok. Did they successfully do anything interesting or useful?

In one case: Battle of the Falklands in the First World War. The two battle cruisers did exactly what their job was supposed to be. Why the Admiralty didn't recognize them as perfect "abroad" flagships to handle cruisers... Unfortunately, they got that scouting mission which put them into close contact with the enemy battle line and that results in things being wrong with one's ships on the day...

I'd argue they're the ultimate peacetime presence ships. With their big guns, sleek lines, long range, and high speed, they can do lots of port calls to fly the flag and show everyone how great your navy, and by extension your country, is. A big reason why HMS Hood didn't get it's refit before the war was because she was doing just that, touring the world doing naval diplomacy, showing off how great the royal navy was, and making it clearly visible that Britain took the protection of it's allies and overseas territories seriously.

Ooo! What about the horrific problems the British had with patrolling the channel in high speed ships with rubbish communication tech?

Specifically thinking of the 'battle' of May island, but there are many other examples. Its a wonder a great many vessels didn't smash into each other all the time.

Since I accidentally stole the top of the page, I will conclude the page. What is the status of the pipettes? I have read that butterfly will be finished by gen 4, but does that account for both pipettes adding to the legacy? Have you considered adding their colorings to the AAR as their colorings will be as good as the work of Spanish cartographers? Have you started the arduous task of finding consorts for the pipettes? Little boys from coffee drinking families need to be eliminated forthwith. Thank you for your work and I give you back the top so that an update can follow.
