And now, the 42nd and final chapter of this AAR has been published (see my previous post on the previous page). Including Kingdom of Jerusalem, this is a two-year project that I have just finished.

I would like to thank all the readers of this AAR. Without you I would never have found the courage to finish it. So thanks to : @Nikolai ; @Specialist290 ; @Kampfspargel ; @Levgar ; @Iwantdumplings ; @coz1 ; @Dunaden ; @Silverio90 ; @Historywhiz ; @filcat ; @Midnite Duke ; @Idhrendur ; @Sirdramaticus ; @Great Mantis ; @935 ; @Killcrazy13 ....

But also all the anonymous readers or those I may have forgotten: Thank you for everything!

Still have seven chapters to the end, and still checking if there are any chapters missed while reading (some of them are missing the threadmark; for example chapter 40).

But could not save self from making a comment for the end.

Magnificent work, from its format to its style over its structure into its story. Looking forward to your next AAR. Until then, will be re-reading this and the Jérusalem, again (and again).

Kudos.

Thank you so much filcat!

I had a few ideas for AARs, but I abandoned several of them. Now I'll be able to update CK3 on my "AAR" laptop to write in peace. My gaming laptop is always up to date, and the other one can stay on a given version offline so the damn workshop updates don't bother me (it's also the one with Photoshop installed on it).

I added chapter 40 to the index. I hope it appears between 39 and 41 (I don't know if the index reorganization is for everyone or just for me).

I have been enjoying this AAR immensely, and with all the unexpected twists and turns it was very hard to predict what was going to happen. Excellent work.

Thank you very much! Those 17 years were so interesting that I really wanted to write an AAR about them, but I wasn't sure if it would work. I had heard of a @coz1 AAR that also took place over only a few years and wanted to try.

Thanks again!

It's been a great ride! (And I say so with some chapters yet unread)

An amazing run, @Werther and yes, there is nothing wrong with writing an AAR for just a few years if they are interesting. And this was! I won't point back to my own work but suggest I am not the only one to do so. Done every day, but thank you for the shout out.

Major kudos and congrats to not only finishing but doing so within a year! Both are major accomplishments and this has been exceptional. Sorry I did not comment as it went, but I've been aware the entire time. Well done!

Eloquently concluded. The Patriarch gives the past, the Glorious the future, and Jean himself the present. Three lines converging into one, just as three houses and kingdoms converge into one empire.

Out of curiosity though, was Jean the Heir actually the Glorious’s son, or did a false paternity event separate the rightful heir of the Montories from the imperial seat until Amelie and Jean VI’s marriage?

Bravo for the story and for completing it. Great skill at using vignettes to show the charactera while ensuring the plot kept moving forward.

Thank you killcrazy, I just discovered your Azov AAR : a good read!

Thank you! I have to read your Victoria 3 productions.

Thanks coz1, that makes me very happy coming from you. I don't need to say again how much your AARs have influenced me.

Thank you Historywhiz, I have always appreciated your interventions which always nail on the head.

Haaa, the question of the paternity of the Glorious, I knew someone would ask:

So I used the debug mode and it turns out that only Agathe was a bastard ("Real Father" line). I find this surprising to be honest, the two recognized bastards (Hugues/Ugos and Eunike) were born years after Agathe and Jean the Heir (and his brothers Henri and Hugues) looked very much like Kyriakos. But on the other hand they also resembled their grandfather Hugues II the Broken and their great grandfather Henri II the Younger.

The problem with the Montoires and Comnenes is that they often intermarried, so it's hard to tell if a character is a bastard or not. Thus the great grandmother of Marie (the mother of Agathe, Jean or Hugues) was a Montoire (Princess Anne) and the grandmother of Hugues III was a Comnene (Queen Eusebia, but from the Antiochian Branch).

I don't know if we can trust the Real Father line. I have heard that it can appear during plots, but that is all I can say. Otherwise, Etienne and his sisters are legitimate too (which makes the Glorious' suspicions, and mine, all the more tragic).

I checked and all Kings and Emperors are legitimate.

Thank you for giving us English speaker this awesome AAR!

I'm the one who should thank you. I've been writing in my corner for years, afraid to come here to show you my poor texts, and your welcome has been great. So thank you!

---

By the way, I don't know if I'm really going to do it, but I've always wanted to do a little making of for each of the chapters, especially in terms of the locations, I have whole pages of historical notes and excerpts from articles about the places visited in the AAR.

Huh. I am surprised as well. And thank you.

And you should absolutely do this. The journey is often even more interesting than the destination, especially in writing historical fiction.

Thanks for this great work. The last two chapters were beautiful works of art. The gorgeous map showing the split of Empires was beautiful. The beauty gives me a feeling of reading an ancient work done in a monastery. The death vision showing the future as well as the past was unique. Thank you again for sharing your talent with us.

I am very late but this is an amazing AAR. Haven't read one since the heyday of CK2 and I'm glad this is the first one I chose to get back into it! Thank you for the amazing work, and looking forward to a new series in the future if ever!
