So would I. I'll try to update over the weekend.

I'm in quite a high stress part of my life right now, so my creativity is ebbing a bit.

That's perfectly understandable. I was simply expressing interest.

No time to digest all your creativity but my take on battleships (as of 1.1, haven't played enough yet with 1.2):

Corvettes enjoy a brief reign.

A well-conceived fleet of 20 Battleships (and no other ship types to dilute their glory) will eat virtually any corvette fleet for lunch.

Huh. Cool. Thanks for sharing that. It's weird to think that corvette fleets aren't going to be a permanent feature of Stellaris, but were simply a feature of an early build, preserved only in folklore.

Does this mean that people will, one day, look at this AAR and say "huh, that TBV, he was a total cheesy powergamer, using nothing but battleships"?

Of course my observations may be "inaccurate;" I suppose it would have be tested in MP to be sure.

But yeah, as far as I can tell, a 20+ fleet of ALL battleships (10 or 12 with various auras [two of each type]) and the rest pure firepower seems to perform well, at least against computer-opponent fleets and including CO fleets that are predominantly Corvette.

Nah it won't. The devs have stated that development is going towards battleships having even heavier weapons but being very exposed without screens. Going full battleship will seem odd later, I suspect people will want corvettes or destroyers or a mixture of those. I mean, even with these changes, I wonder if leaving behind corvettes in my Aviarium game wouldn't work alright as long as I have enough destroyers.

Tbh this is part of the problem wrt ship AI behavior. They devs have a particular image of what space combat should be and all the ships act as benefits that idea. It would be cool IMO if there were more behaviors which could be unlocked, e.g. "escort" which allows a corvette or destroyer to stick close to a larger ship and draw fire away from it, or "evade" where a ship trys to stay at maximum range and actively flies away from anything too close (the counter to this would be that heavier ships would be slower, but guns on them would have higher damage and significantly longer range, taken to its natural conclusion in that the weapons of static defense platforms would have very long range even compared to battleships). Maybe even "drive me closer!" where your ships try to close the distance and initiate close quarters combat. Perhaps boarding? (Short range 'torpedoes' which inflict damage over time, disable weapons or even immobilise the ship) :3.

The current system is very vanilla and sandboxy, which I think is good because it allows the ships to behave in a fairly-okay-ish manner in a great many different situations. Once you start adding complexities like kiting or escorting, it adds an enormous number of ways that it can go very wrong.

Stellaris isn't a tactical wargame. In my opinion, the AI resources should go into the strategic and diplomatic level where they'll be most needed and will most improve the player experience.

Nonetheless, those are some very interesting ideas you have there. Have you ever played Gratuitous Space Battles?

If the game progresses and you control huge interstellar empire, this would translate into micromanagement hell. Leave the details to your admirals, i'd say!

So. I am moving house today, and will not have internet yet in the new place. (I'm writing this on my phone.) All my screenshots and game notes are not on my phone. However, I don't want to let this AAR die because I'm having a great time writing it.

As such, I must either beg your indulgence for a little longer before the next full update, or I must update without screenshots (possibly inserting them later.)

Your thoughts please, ladies and gentlemen. Which of the two options would you find most useful?

I'm fine with waiting.

Absolutely take your time mr!

I'm with the others, take your time moving and stting things back up. We can wait.

Please, take your time. We can be patient.
