Whoa, I didn't even know that this was a thing! Thanks everyone!

I must admit that I'm not really up-to-date with the more modern AAR's but maybe this is a good opportunity to bring attention to great AAR's from the first generation(s) of Paradox! I'll see what I can dig up from the dusty corners of my memory (and this forum).

The first AAR that I read that not only finished a great Hearts of Iron campaign, but also did a fairly believable alternative history explanation for stuff is Where the Iron Crosses Grow by The Yogi. It's probably familiar to anyone who read AAR's here back in... (Checks thread date) 2003!?!? Holy shit. Sadly, all of the pictures are now gone and the hosting of the PDF version is also gone which means that only text is available. It's still good writing and worth checking out but Yogi used a lot of pictures and made some maps too, so it's a shame that they are lost.

For Hearts of Iron 2, the best (IMHO) AAR is Against all Odds: The British Empire in World War Two by trekaddict. It's also an alt-history but also lacks pictures nowadays. It's also not completely finished and is a mix of character-driven and history-book narrative, he kept working on it for a decade but ultimately abandoned it. It was certainly weird to take a sabbatical of 2-3 years from the forum and then come to find out that he had updated the story and kept going!

There are so many good single-player AAR's for HoI3 so I don't know what to pick. Instead, I'll showcase a rarity - a multiplayer AAR! CptEasy wrote a whole series of MP AAR's and Sudden Carnage won an award. His signature has links to the others. They're not all equally good but it's fascinating to read about multiplayer shenanigans and how differently the story folds with multiple actors.

Apologies to fans of the other games as while I have read few CK/Vicky/EU AAR's, I really can't recall any of them well enough to go spelunking into the archives to find them.

I remember reading these and having a blast! It turns traditional HOI on its head as humans come up with all kinds of tricky strategies an AI would never do. It also feels a lot more like the real war where Britain and the U.S. will launch Op. Overlord at some point, threatening Germany in the west.

I said you were a fan of taste @Wraith11B and your excellent acceptance and nomination speech proved it.

Congratulations to @GarfunkeL and their efforts at dredging up old classics, proof indeed they were an excellent choice for this award. :)

Ah, I almost forgot that I need to nominate a new fan of the week. My nomination is BBBD316 who also has never been nominated before if I'm reading the list correctly and is a fellow HoI3 AAR forum poster. Take it away BeBeBeDeThreeOneSix and

It's a bold choice, nominating someone who has not posted in AARland for at least a year as Fan of the Week. I'm not 100% sure it is within the letter or the spirit of the rules though.

Under 'Postings' it is all OT Forum and Vick3 postings from that member as far I can tell. If the famously accurate and user-friendly forum software is wrong and they do regularly post in AARland, then I do of course retract this objection.

I have to agree with @El Pip , a fan of the week that doesn't post in AARland is not a fan in the spirit of the awAARd. I hope it's the forum software acting up. In any case it's time for a new winnAAR tonight. :)

Given that @BBBD316 most probably won't come over here to pick a new winner on account of not actually being a regular AARland commentatAAR (anymore, maybe) I'm opening this up for nomination.

First come, first serve, as always.

As is usual, I like to bring in new blood whenever I can get the opportunity. My next nominee has been active on the forums at least since 2016, so perhaps calling them "new" might be overstating things (unless compared to us old-timers), but to the best of my knowledge they've never been nominated, which I think is an oversight that bears rectifying immediately given their informed and thoughtful comments on a few of the AARs we both follow in common.

Therefore, it is my pleasure to nominate @jak7139 as our next Fan of the Week! Come on down and claim your prize!

Thank you to @Specialist290, @Bullfilter, and @DensleyBlair for the nomination and thanks!

Though I have been on the forums since 2016, as pointed out, I only started posting and commenting this past Summer. This was because I started to write my first (and so far only) AAR. And I hope to write many more some day, though now I am busy with Midterms.

As for who I will nominate, there was a comment on the conclusions of my AAR that has stuck with me. And I think is really good advice for all writers, new, old, and aspiring. The comment was this:

Thank you to @filcat for this comment. I hereby nominate you as the new Fan of the Week! Congratulations!

I think you get to enjoy the honour for the rest of this week, before you need to pass the baton on, though … spoiler alert! :D
