One tiny weird thing about the trailer that's oddly bugging me. At first I sort of assumed by default Megacorp was human-founded, but then noticed all the reps have hairdos from the "humanoid elf" set. But still rounded, human style ears.
Make of that observation what you will.

I think the point was just to make them look unreal, even grotesque "advertisement family", hence silly hairstyles and Megacorp logo made into a dress.

I just had a neat idea for a counter to the criminal syndicates. Legalization and legitimization as a policy.

Essentially:

Oh you want to try and sell us strange space drugs? that's cool yeah sure, we will just put some warning labels around your opium dens to keep your customers informed.

Oh gambling? Yeah totally cool.

Wrestling ring? Yeah we are cool.

Pirate den? We are a okay with that.

I could see it maybe being a tech or civic limited thing but essentially it's a crime nullifier via embracing and legalization/permissiveness rather then locking down with the police shock troops.

You might argue that's what more Egalitarian empires are doing with their law enforcement. It's just that "corporate freelancers" keep scrubbing the warnings off of their "inhalable plant extract" products and "lootbox centers" and luring gullible folks into "free market clinics" that end with the folks missing organs. That's why they still need the heavy police presense.

Alternatively, public prosecutors / state lawyers and lots of them for all the frivolous lawsuits the "legitimate corporations" keep filing.

At the moment the best upcoming thing, by far, is the free patch. Megacorp is just a little bonus next to the revolution the new planetary/economic adm system is bringing in the game.

Planet and habitat districts
More tweets from @StellarisGame about six hours ago, this time about districts for planets and habitats.

https://twitter.com/StellarisGame/status/1065505430540042240

In 2.2 "Le Guin" update, habitats will have a set of their own, unique districts. Compared to planets, there is less of them, but they support different type and amount of pop jobs.

Remember that numbers and art might still change by release! :)

And now, for comparison, a closer look at Earth's districts. Note that planets are larger, but their districts offer different amount and types of jobs.

As before, those numbers and details can also change! ;)

Looks like planetary districts will be self-sustaining, housing-wise, but to house specialists from buildings you'll need cities.

Also the X/X numbers on the districts are confirmed to be from max available district cap. Hyper-specialised habitats are still possible.

Hmm not sure how I feel about that. Seems a bit odd from the fluff perspective, but will have to wait and see how it feels ingame.

I think it makes sense. Assigning entire districts of the planet to be used for farming and mining includes the necessary infrastructure to house the workers, with rural communities and mining towns and such. If you want people to work in factories and science labs, you need designated urban centres to house them.

I think it's sillier to have to build a huge city to house a bunch of farmers.

I guess there is only one mystery left: what are the space unicorns going to look like?

"As spotted by eagle-eyed readers of the new dev diary: Hive Worlds are indeed now a thing for players with Utopia in the 2.2 update!"

Wowdamn that seems really strong! Source on this? Devclash? Biogestalts are gonna be the absolute Kings of minerals.

The dev diary had the
Code:
is_planet_class = pc_hive
tag, which meant that Hive Worlds had indeed been included
As for where this picture has been taken, Wiz's Twitter

the source is @martin_anward on Twitter :) (so Wiz)

Thanks guys. I saw the code in the dev diary, but was only checking the Stellaris Twitter. Completely forgot about Wiz!

That doesn't seem that great. The +10% is nice but simply removing the planetary feature limit on number of districts? It sounds underwhelming.

So if I have a size 20 planet, I could build 20 energy districts? Do I not have to worry about housing anymore? I suppose it could make hive worlds very flexible (being able to change from 20 energy to 20 mineral districts. though I would think they would need to have significant reduction in district cost and build time) but to me it doesn't sound like this ascension perk is THAT much better than just a regular planet. I mean as far as I can tell, hive districts would still limit the number of resource districts you could have. Perhaps I just haven't seen it in action.

I guess the purpose is making highly specialized planets (ie. full energy, full agriculture, full mining).
