MAP - Name of Countries

I would like to ask that the map (in the terrain map mode) do not show the name of the countries, like Spain, France, Turkey etc.

I really dislike that kind of maps, even more when you want to conquer some place and the name of the historical nation will always be there.

The map concept is not closed, so I ask some consideration

How about regions? For example, in the interface picture Johan posted, "Poland" is on the map, even though it's not an independent country. And "Germany" doesn't exist yet either, but is on the map.

IMO, it's fine to mention regions on the map on large zoom level.

I agree. Notice that it says 'Turkey', not 'Ottoman Empire' as well. Putting the names of the regions is fine, but the countries is a bit annoying (For example, I always hated how it said 'Soviet Union' in big letters on the HoI2 map, would've been fine if it said 'Russia').

This is only a mock up map people... Why would you think the terrain map would show names?

It couldn't of been called Russia since there was 15-16 different republics that merged together to make the Soviet Union.

It's real name was, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. :p

Yes, I realize that, but the biggest region was Russia and so it was the one that should be labeled. Makes little sense for a big label saying 'Soviet Union' if it has been annexed by someone.

I really don't want to see "region" names on the map. If it's anything like Vicky we'll have states anyway and they would be much more useful. I don't need to see where Germany is, but not having to click several states to find Haute-Rhone or Oklahoma would be useful.

Of course, they could put the region names in an extra layer you can turn on and off. I wouldn't need it, but I wouldn't mind.

I like the way Egypt was handled in Vicky 1. If they can win the war outright, they should be fully independent. Maybe even have an event chain causing further Ottoman colapse should this occur. Otherwise, if the game proceeds historically, they should be more or less a satelite.
Ottoman Empire created a unique viceroyalty position (Khedivate) specifically for Muhammed Ali and his descendants. Egyptian Khedives therefore became "royal governors" ruling on behalf of Ottoman Sultan, meaning Muhammed Ali's line would inherit the governorship (instead of appointment).

VIP event chain for this period was not as accurate but quite successful for practical reasons. The situation at 1835 was a ceasefire, not a real peace.

In reality, between 1840 and 1922, Egypt was officially a province of the Ottoman Empire, semi-officially an autonomous state with its own monarchy, armed forces, and territorial possessions in Sudan, and for practical purposes a British puppet after 1882.

When the Ottomans joined the Central Powers in First World War, the British deposed pro-Ottoman Khedive Abbas Hilmi Pasha in favor of his uncle Huseyin and declared Egypt a British protectorate.

The legal claims of Ottoman sovereignty in Egypt was finally ended in 1922 when the Ottoman Empire collapsed and the Republic of Turkey ceased her rights on Egypt at the Treaty of Lausanne (July 24, 1923).

Hehe.

Ottomany Mappy Goodness.

Egypt is certainly a special case that the game needs to consider how to model...

Early days yet but I agree with the OP. Names of places did get annoying-especially when the 'USSR' or whatever didnt exist anymore.

Take a look at the Russian - Ottoman border. It looks a little different from Vicky 1.

I know that in the future there will be many talks about the map. (Just see what happend to Hoi3) So thereby i started this thread so we don't have to read 20 different map threads every day :)

I saw two things that is quite different in Vicky 1. First the serbian border. The Serbia in Vicky 1 is very weird compared to this. And i didn't even notice it until today when i started looking at this map. :)

The other thing is the two Papal Provinces in the middle of Two Sicilies. That would be a nice add to the map ;)

This map of Brittish India is also a little different from the Vicky one. Some protectorate's aren't in the game but it's kinda big territories even if their bigger than... Sikkim? Like in northeast India. That province is British in Vicky1.

That is just some of the things :)

EDIT: I Know it's Megathread please moderator fix it :)

I think they look accurate enough, actually.
