I think everyone can agree one of the best parts of a new patch is seeing which nations get their own NI sets. And one of the most frequent topics in the suggestion forums are suggestions for said new NIs. Unfortunately, they can be difficult to find, and can fade away pretty quickly. Hence this thread.

As I recall there used to be a thread similar for this a while back, but since I can't seem to find it, I've created this; a new NI compilation thread, where I'll try to upload any suggested NI sets I see for nations that do not yet have them for convenience's sake. If there is an Idea Set of yours for a nation that does not have an unique NI set, or if I missed one of yours, please; feel free to post.

Edit: Also, please try to keep it restrained to only tags that are already in game or have been confirmed are being added.

At the request of @Trin Tragula, I’ve composed an index of this thread that I’ll do my best to keep updated. I’ve separated it into NIs for countries that already have them (which may or may not have been influenced by the ones in this thread) and ones that don’t, and then alphabetized them for ease of access. Author will be put in parenthesis.

This very belated update to the list was courtesy of @Aquamancer, who did the legwork in updating the thread to match the current situation of NIs ingame, as well as to make it more visually appealing.

This thread is more than 5 months old.

It is very likely that it does not need any further discussion and thus bumping it serves no purpose. If you feel it is necessary to make a new reply, you can still do so though.

From my thread here. Didn't realise there was a special thread for this.

Separate ideas for England and Great Britain.

England should have national ideas that are focused on traditional feudal preoccupations. The quality of the national ideas should be below that of France and not naval in character. It was Henry VIII who first properly developed English naval strength, and his reign started in 1509. And even then France would often beat England in naval confrontations. it wasn't until much later that Britain achieved naval supremacy.

Great Britain should have top-tier national ideas relating to naval power, colonisation, the early development of industry, and the introduction of a disciplined, professional army.

To that end, I suggest the following:

English National Ideas

Traditions

  • Bonus 1: +20% Fort Defence

  • Bonus 2: +1 Diplomatic Relations
Idea 1

  • Name: The Longbow

  • Description: Though later rendered obsolete by the development of firearms and artillery, the longbow was still in widespread use during the later years of the Hundred Years War. A second Agincourt could yet revive English ambitions in France.

  • Bonus: +10% Infantry Combat Ability
Idea 2:

  • Name: Hundreds and Shires

  • Description: The historical division of English land into Hundreds and Shires meant that England was more centralised than its continental peers. Most importantly, this assisted greatly in the administration of taxation.

  • Bonus: +15% National Tax Modifier
Idea 3:

  • Name: Common law

  • Description: This system of precedent-based law made by judges divided England from the rest of Europe, where Roman law dominated. The development of common law rights constrained the excesses of the nobility and gave all free men a uniform recourse against injustice.

  • Bonus: -0.10 Monthly autonomy change
Idea 4:

  • Name: The Elizabethan Settlement

  • Description: The Elizabethan Religious Settlement of 1559 re-established the Church of England's independence from Rome and standardised the form of worship across the country. In doing so it laid to rest years of religious controversy by adopting a compromise between Protestantism and Catholicism.

  • Bonus: -1 National Unrest
Idea 5:

  • Name: Claims to France

  • Description: England maintains its historical claims to the French crown. Taking this land is the natural right of all English kings.

  • Bonus: -10% Aggressive Expansion Impact
Idea 6:

  • Name: Sir Francis Drake

  • Description: While Spain reaped the wealth of its vast empire in the New World, England looked upon their treasure fleets with envy. With so much plunder available, the growth of royally sanctioned piracy was inevitable.

  • Bonus: +20% Privateer efficiency
Idea 7:

  • Name: The Royal Society

  • Description: Founded in 1660, the Royal Society counted Robert Boyle, Isaac Newton and Robert Hooke among its members.

  • Bonus: -10% Technology cost
Ambition

  • Bonus: +5% Discipline
British National Ideas

Traditions

  • Bonus 1: +20% Morale of navies

  • Bonus 2: +33% Embargo Efficiency
Idea 1

  • Name: A Royal Navy

  • Description: Beginning around 1495, the Tudor monarchy invested heavily in not just ships but the infrastructure to support them. This for many was the official founding of the royal navy.

  • Bonus 1: +10% Heavy Ship Combat Ability

  • Bonus 2: +1 Yearly Naval Tradition
Idea 2:

  • Name: A New Model Army

  • Description: Formed in 1645 by the Parliamentarians in the English Civil War, the New Model Army introduced full-time professional soldiers and officers to England. Though later disbanded, it would lay the foundation for the idea of a small but professional army.

  • Bonus: +20% Infantry Combat Ability
Idea 3:

  • Name: Supremacy of Parliament

  • Description: As continental Europe fell under the rule of absolute monarchs, Britain alone championed the cause of liberty. Though Parliament was far from democratic, it nonetheless limited the use of arbitrary royal authority.

  • Bonus: +1 Legitimacy
Idea 4:

  • Name: First British Empire

  • Description: Brought to an end by the American Revolutionary War, the First British Empire came about in the 17th century as a result of the settlement of North America and the development of sugar plantations in the West Indies. The loss of its American colonies would lead to Britain turning its focus east.

  • Bonus: +20 Global Settler Increase
Idea 5:

  • Name: The Bank of England

  • Description: Building a fleet large enough to stop France meant borrowing a lot of money. To that end, a Royal Charter was given in 1694 to create the Bank of England, which would lay the foundations for the modern central bank.

  • Bonus: -0.5 Interest
Idea 6:

  • Name: The Redcoats

  • Description: Worn from the mid-17th century to the 19th century, the red coat was a symbol of the precision and drill of the British Army's line infantry.

  • Bonus: +1 Land Leader Fire
Idea 7:

  • Name: The First Industrial Revolution

  • Description: Starting from around 1760, the Industrial Revolution was the transition to new manufacturing methods using machines and factories. It led to a boom in prosperity, the growth of cities and enabled large increases in populations.

  • Bonus 1: -10% Development cost
Ambition

  • Bonus: +5% Discipline

@Grand Historian
I wonder what the stance on NIs from mods which were not posted in this suggestion forum is?

I ask as VeF has some nice ideas for Utrecht, Gelre, Friesland and East Frisia which might be helpful.

I mean, if you want to repost a mod's NIs, then all I'd say is make sure to explicitly say they come from the mod and give proper credit. If you want to use them as a basis for an NI set of your own creation, might still be good to mention that you were inspired by it, but I'm not against posting them.

Here's a proposal for a set of national ideas for UTRECHT!

Utrecht

Traditions
+1 missionary
+10% infantry combat ability

Hanseatic ties
Many of our eastern cities are members of the Hanseatic league. The valuable contacts have strengthened our position in the North European trade networks.
+10% trade efficiency

In partibus infidelium
The Protestant reformation has struck hard and the people of our lands and those surrounding us are now deeply divided. To bring back unity, we should intensify the efforts of our missionaries.
+2% Missionary strength

Waardgelders
To effectively deal with the religious unrest in the Low Countries, we must hire foreign professionals to fight for us. Their lack of ties to the people in these lands ensures they have no moral objections to fighting them.
-25% mercenary maintenance

Utrechtse school
While the arts are blossoming throughout the Low Countries, our close ties with Rome and Italy have contributed to the development of a distinctive school of painting. The works of our painters are in high demand at foreign courts.
+ 1 yearly prestige

A new home for Huguenots
We have decided to welcome religious refugees from France. In return for our hospitality, they bring capital and valuable knowledge to our lands.
-10% technology cost

New Utrecht
Jacques Cortelyou from Utrecht has established a small settlement in the New World and called it New Utrecht. Many of our subjects cannot wait to follow his example.
+15 global settler increase

Treaties of Utrecht
Thanks to our excellent reputation, our capital city has hosted peace negotiations between international powers on multiple occasions. This is why more than one Treaty carries the name of our city.
+1 diplomatic reputation

Ambition
+1 diplomatic relation

Justification:

- Hanseatic ties: This idea overlaps with that of Gelre, because the situation was quite similar. Zwolle, Kampen, Deventer and some other cities in the Oversticht territory were among the most important Dutch Hanseatic cities shortly after the start of the EU IV timeframe.

- In partibus infidelium: after the Catholic church lost most of the northern Netherlands to Protestantism, the bishop of Utrecht was designated ‘in partibus infidelium’, ‘in the lands of the unbelievers’.

- Waardgelders: This mostly refers to a situation in 1617-18 in which Utrecht hired mercenaries to deal with religious unrest.

- Utrechtse school: Many painters from Utrecht travelled to Italy in the 16th and 17th century to learn from the masters there and some became very commercially successful. Caravaggio had a particularly large influence on painters like Gerard van Honthorst, who became a favorite of the Medici family in Florence. The Utrecht school of painting was closer to the developments in Italy than those in other Dutch cities.

- About Huguenots in Utrecht, see:
- Van der Spek, Joost (1999). Réfugiés pour la religion: De Hugenoten in Utrecht. In : Jaarboek Oud-Utrecht. Available online.

- New Utrecht was a settlement in what is now Brooklyn, which is named after another village in the province of Utrecht (Breukelen).

- Treaties of Utrecht: Besides the most famous Treaty (1713), which ended the War of Spanish Succession, there was also the Treaty of Utrecht (1474) that ended the Anglo-Hanseatic War. In addition, the Union of Utrecht (1579), unifying the Dutch provinces into the Republic of the Netherlands, was also signed there.

Ok, so here are the ideas of Gelre, Utrecht and East Frisia retrieved from the Veritas et Fortitudo mod. They might be helpful for you, @DDRJake ,for the upcoming 1.25 update (as I guess devs don't have time to check all mods there are for NIs).

In the latest dev diary, Jake wrote that he should be tagged for dutch NIs. So I guess that's why everyone is doing that.
http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...of-january-2018.1065283/page-20#post-23721267

Though, I until recently I thought that both Trin and Jake would read this thread regularly, as there usually are only few new posts per week in here. At least your great list, @Grand Historian , should make it easy to search for NIs for nations which will be in the spotlight of an upcoming patch.

Unfortunately I have to decline. Not only are they not a full set, they're also a supplement/critique of another user's set and also lack defined values - I can't consider it an NI set as a result. If they were tweaked to be a full alternative, then I would gladly add it in.

@Grand Historian
Wouldn't it be better to just mention the VeF mod for those three NI sets? As I just copied them which is neither a big task nor a creative one. (Personally, I would prefer that as I don't want to claim the praise for them)

Then I would also like to link the Urbinese NIs of @krushka5 retrieved from here (seemingly they are still missing in this thread and most likely got forgotten)
I recently played a game as Urbino and felt like it deserved its own NI. In addition to the attached NI I left some notes explaining some of the decisions below as well as an idea on how the 1444 start date should be changed to better reflect history.

@Trin Tragula On an aside are there any plans to add a NIs for Mysore or Tripura. I think I have seen a thread for Mysore but if there is nothing on the table I might write some for both states.

Urbino National Ideas

Traditions: +10% morale of armies, +1 possible advisors

1. Palazzo Ducale: +1 yearly prestige, - 5% idea cost
"In the late 15th century construction started of a grand palace structure designed to attract the best thinkers of the Renaissance to one place. The palace courtyards were regularly filled with foreign intellectuals, who were inspired to create great works of art, poetry and architecture within the all-encompassing renaissance symbol that was the Palazzo Ducale.”

2. Umbrian Condottieri: -25% mercenary costs
“Due to geographic restrictions, Urbino has been cut off from the same resources the other Italian states thrive from. To accommodate for this, Urbino offers its condottieri to other states to resolve their squabbles. This tradition has lead foreigners abroad to observe that the economy of Urbino, is its Condottieri. “

3. Military Architecture +20% fort defence
“Urbino has long attracted some of Europe’s best military engineers, attracted by the opportunity of receiving patronage or employment. The works of many of these military engineers in conjunction with architects are implemented in the military infrastructure of our palaces and settlements.

4. The Book of the Courtier: +1 diplomatic reputation
“The Book of the Courtier was a fiction based on the interactions between the courtiers of the Duke of Urbino, setting out the gestures and decorum of the ideal courtier. The book’s publication would spread across Europe and influence its populations in the mannerisms of the proper Umbrian gentlemen that they should all be striving to be.”

5. School of Urbino: +1 land leader siege
"The progress of our mathematicians has birthed what has been referred to as the ‘School of Urbino’. The states mathematicians have imbedded their studies into both the court and the army, granting an enhanced comprehension for our military leaders on how to calculate the trajectory of our cannons to most damage enemy fortifications.

6. Courtly Surveillance: Foreign Spy Detection +25%
“To prevent courtiers from expunging the states secrets, various layers of surveillance have been designed into every aspect of the Urbinan court. Courtiers are engaged in constant inspection through social conversations and negotiations. In addition to this the panels and paintings that dot the Urbianan court are designed to unnerve distrustful courtiers by convincing the viewer that he is being ever viewed and judged no matter where he goes.

7. United in Faith: +1 Tolerance of the True Faith
"All across Urbino churches dot the landscape as a tribute of the people’s faith. Within these churches murals of heathens being driven from Italia are common place as there can only be one faith in Urbino.

Ambitions: +5% dicipline

  • [*]The statement about the economy of Urbino and its condottieri is reference to a statement by the Venetian Ambassador Frederico Badoer who remarked that the “all of them live off warfare”.
[*]The importance of the Book of the Courtier is immense, it is a foundational document to the development of foreign middle class and aristocratic cultures, most significantly that of the “English Gentlemen”. It might be worth giving it an additional +15% improve relation or a culture conversion buff on top of its current + diplomatic reputation.
[*]In 1444 Urbino was Independent, although would be absorbed into the papacy through inheritance and intrigue in the coming centuries. I feel like it should be independent in the 1444 start date but guaranteed by the Papacy.

From humble beginnings, we have come far: our lands have been elevated by the Emperor to the rank of duchy. This makes us the most prominent independent state of the Low Countries.
+1 Yearly prestige

Hanseatic towns
The rivers that flow through Gelre bring with them an abundance of trade. No wonder that an extraordinary amount of towns in our land are members of the Hanseatic League. These Hanseatic towns make a vital contribution to the duchy's coffers.
+15% Trade efficiency

Diplomatic expansion
Through strategic marriages and moneylending, our realm has expanded from minor holdings in Upper Guelders to its current size. Holland and Utrecht have loaned more from our plentiful treasury than they could pay back, and we have obtained Nijmegen and the Veluwe as collateral. We must obtain more lands following this example.
-15% Diplomatic annexation cost/ -10% Core-creation cost

Border conflicts
As a regional power, we are often at war with our neighbours. Fighting Holland, Utrecht and Brabant has made our soldiers experienced.
+5% Discipline/ +0.5 Yearly army tradition

Fierce independence
For a long time, great powers have been aiming to incorporate our realm into theirs. Our military resistance against the ambitions of the Burgundians has been succesful so far.
+10% Army morale

Battlefield of the Netherlands
Gelre lacks natural borders, facilitating army movement. This means our lands form an epicentre of bloodshed in the region, and our people have grown resilient to the looting of soldiers.
-0.02 Monthly war exhaustion

Controlling the rivers
While other areas in the Netherlands have become adept at fighting the sea, our rivers form another problem. By altering their course and constructing dykes we can use them to our advantage and prevent the flooding of our land.
-10% Development cost

Ambition
+10% Global trade power

I made some for Brunswick/Hanover. I know there are some suggestions out there, but here's some that I believe would be both fitting, and make the ideas a better alternative to the already pretty good generic German ideas:

Brunswick/Hanover ideas (Could also be used for Lüneburg maybe?)

Traditions:
+1 Diplomatic Relations (A lot of intermarriage to keep the area within the House of Welf)
+50% Chance of new heir (This also meant there were a lot fresh heirs to keep the line going should one ruler die)

"Hanseatic ties" +15% Production Efficiency
"Many of our cities have forged close ties to the Hanseatic League. This has resulted in easy access for our goods into foreign markets, giving us an edge in the export of goods."
(Many of the cities in both Brunswick and Lüneburg had close ties to the Hanseatic League, many also being part of it at different times. This includes also Brunswick itself, which for a long time was not controlled by the duke.)

"Herzog August Library" -10% Technology cost
"Founded by Duke Julius in 1572, and greatly enlarged by Duke Augustus, the Herzog August Library is the largest library north of the Alps. We must use this knowledge to secure further scientific advances."
(Self-explanatory)

"Brunswicker Guilds" +10% Production income
"Although nominally a part of the Duchy, Brunswick itself were for a long time semi-independent and ruled by a powerful class of burghers and patricians. Finally being back in control of the city, we can use its long built up expertise to increase our production."
(It took the dukes until 1671 to finally regain control of Brunswick, which had basically been independent for 250 years by then)

"The Ninth Electorate" +1 Yearly prestige, +1 Diplomatic Reputation
"Through shrewd diplomacy and cunning negotiation, we have managed to become the Ninth Electorate of the Holy Roman Empire. Hold such a title surely will increase our standing to the rest of the world."
(Brunswick-Lüneburg eventually managed to become an electorate, the ninth one, unofficially as the Electorate of Hannover)

"The Army of Observation" +10% Infantry combat ability
"If we are to fight back the French advances over the Rhine, we must secure a highly trained and disciplined core of soldiers, ready to strike the invaders without fear."
(The Army of Observation fought back the French during the Seven Years’ War)

"Found the University of Göttingen" -10% Idea Cost
"In order for our nation to prosper, we must found a university of or own. The city of Göttingen, with its long history and southward position, would be an ideal place for such an institution."
(A university in northern Germany founded in 1737 by George I of Hannover and Great Britain and Ireland)

"Prussian military education" +5% Discipline
"Our close proximity and relations towards our neighbors Prussia have resulted in a plethora of military ideas and tactics flowing between our borders, with many capable Brunswicker officers serving within the Prussian Army. Some of those Prussian ideals will surely help our own army composition as well."
(Based on the role of Ferdinand of Brunswick in the Seven Years’ War)

Ambition:
-2 Global Unrest (Göttingen got famous in its early days for its faculty of law, with some of the most prestigious scholars of public law teaching at the university at the time. Alumni include Metternich, Austrian diplomat, and Wilhelm von Humboldt, who later set up the University of Berling. It even went so far as to gain the reputation university of law by as early as 1837, only 100 years after ints inception)

I've been thinking that maybe the ambition and the last one should swap places, but in the end I think it looks like a pretty good NI-set. Not as powerful as the Prussian or French, but still able to pack a real punch to it and make Hanover a regional power.

I'd love some feedback too, so if you have some to give, that would be welcome!

Hanover already has an ideaset in the game, but I can see this working for Brunswick. Given the history between Brunswick/Hanover and Prussia, maybe the last idea should be changed a bit ;)

Ideas for Ferrara by Van Kasten retrieved from here:
Ferrarese Ideas

1) Tradition: + 2 papal influence
(In Ferrara the Este family had always been part of Guelph faction)

2) Tradition: Yearly Legitimacy +1
(The Este family ruled Ferara for more than 300 years, and then ruled in Modena until the birth of the Kingdom of Italy)

3) Recognized by Popes and Emperors
(In 1452 the Borso d’Este was nominated by the Holy Roman Emperor Duke of Modena and Reggio, and in 1471 was nominated Duke of Ferrara by Pope Paul II. This cements our claims.)
Hostile core-creation cost on us + 25%

4) Ferrarese Mecenatism
(The Dukes of Ferrara were known for their patronage of Arts and Poetry. This led to a flourishing court and the establishment of a painting school called the School of Ferrara)
Possible Advisor +1
Advisor cost -10%

5) Esteemed University
(The University of Ferrara was founded in 1391 by the Marquis Albert V with the permission of Pope
Boniface IX. Two of the most known students of this university were Copernicus and Paracelsus.)

-5% tech cost

6) Take over the Salt trade
(In the late XV century the Dukes of Ferrara started producing salt in Comacchio, which threatened the mainland commerce of salt of the Republic of Venice. This led to the War of Ferrara which lasted from 1482 to 1484 and marked the loss of the lands north of the Po river.)
Provincial Trade Power modifier + 15%

7) Artilleries of Duke Alfonso
(Duke Alfonso I d’Este of Ferrara was known the be an expert in the fields of artillery, metallurgy and military fortifications. His cannons became famous around Europe and showed their value in the wars fought in the Italian peninsula in the early XVI century.)
Artillery Combat Ability +10%

8) Between the Pope and the Doge
(We have always been threatened by the Republic of Venice and the Papal States, and we know they are conspiring to acquire our lands. We must be ready and prepare our defences while we can!)
Fort Defense +10%
Garrison Size +10%

9) Art of Diplomacy
(Will we stand with the Pope, the Emperor, the French or the Spanish? If we try to stand with the most powerful, we can ensure our rule for centuries to come!)
+ 1 diplomatic reputation

10) Ambition: Yearly prestige +1

Mewat may be a minor nation, but because it's my favorite Indian OPM (they will have 2 provinces next patch though) I thought it would be a great idea to add some ideas into them

Traditions:
1) yearly legitimacy +1 (Mewat is a newly formed nation, its ruler can be considered a founder of a new state, this his legitimacy on the throne is a secured one)
2) tech cost -5% ( Indian nations are near the source of every technological advancement, China. Mewat is no exception. With our diplomatic skills, technology sharing will be the reason we thrive forwards to glory)

Resistance to Foreigners: Hostile attrition +1
Mewat resisted every nation up to the Mughal invasion of India. Even then, Mewat existed as a state in the British Raj up to the formation of India.

Clever Diplomacy: Diplo Rep +2
Mewat not only depended on its people to maintain is autonomy, but on great diplomats. With them, no nation found any interests in claiming this land

Hasan Khan Ambitions: infantry combat ability +15%
Hasan Khan was the most ambitious and the last ruler of the Mewati dynasty in Mewat. His rule managed to resist the Mughal invasion, until his death at the battle of Khanwa

The Alwar Fort: Fort defense +20%
The greatest accomplishment in Hasan Khan's life was the Alwar Fort. Its walls were hard to bring down, until the use of cannons in sieges, and it was a great spot for men to regroup into when they were defeated

Delhi Connections: Chance of new heir +50%
The Mewati dynasty had close connections with the Delhi one, it allowed them to have a big ally to depend on in times of war. Thanks to it, its freedom was maintained until the Mughal invasion

Rajput Member: land morale +10% (or with dharma more Rajput regiments)
The Rajputs were the most fierce warriors in all of India. Mewat being a member of this Confederation has earned that reputation as well. Its men are filled with courage when they are fighting against their enemies

Hasan Khan Leadership: Land Leader shock +1
Hasan Khan was a great leader during his reign, it can be noticed at the battle of Khanwa. Even if he lost the battle, and this his life, his leadership cannot be denied

Ambition: development cost -10% (Our state is small in size. The only way to expand is by developing our nation. The nobles, merchants and Rajput warriors support us on this cause)
