The succession system of the various muslim states is a bit complicated as they are often dictated by culture.

However with Ibadism things are a bit more clear, sort of...

The Ibadis outlined more or less 3 criterias:

1. The ruler need to be an Ibadi
2. The ruler needs to be pious
3. The ruler needs to choosen by learned people of the community

Two prominent examples of Imamates at the time were Oman and the Rustamids.

Both of them were established some time before the timelines beginning and ended some time before the end of the timline.

The Rustamids were driven from their territories and pushed south where they dissolved the imamate and scattered into a couple of different cities that had a form of dual secular-theocratic government while in Oman the Imamate was replaced with a sultanate for a few centuries.

Solution:

Ibadi start with a unique succession

Shura elective:
Is available from start.
It applies to your highest ranked title(s).
Must be independent
Voters are limited to landed and learned characters.
All voters must be part of the rulers faith.
The ruler becomes known as Imam
The current dynasty will be prioritized but not be the exclusive option
Piety and traits will be prioritized

An alternate name might be Shura Succession/Election? It could also work as the election mechanic for a possible Rashidun Caliphate if future expansions or mods push the start date back far enough.

Doubt they will go back futher 769 was not the best choice they made in the previous game. Shura is a good alternative

Bumping this, I feel like having a Shura/Muhakkima Doctrine is needed for Ibadis, Shura elective succession system.
Is such thing even moddable?
