Chapter 570

During the chaos in China, the Chinese state of Ming had taken advantage of the confusion by attacking Yue and Qin. The Republic granted military access to Ming so they could help whittle down the enemy numbers aiding the Nuova Italian forces in the region. Ming had, at one point, joined the coalition but their ruler wisely left to take advantage of the chaos that ensued. The situation in Iberia was dire with Castile practically fully occupied. Soon, the Republic would see how her European enemies would deploy against her. A new Doge was then elected as another Qin fort fell to Nuova Italian forces.

The war was certainly going in favor of the Republic in both China and the New World. Castile was suffering the brunt of the enemy forces and she was expected to fall soon. However, the coalition was turning her focus on the New World soon now that Castile was knocked out of the war. A French navy, consisting of eight heavy ship and twenty light ship along with many transports, had been spotted around La Plata. French La Plata was fully occupied at this point and the forces there were redeployed to French Peru. When Castile was completely occupied, the Castillian ships fled to Nuova Italian ports to take shelter while they were in exile.

The Castillian ruler tried to escape his nation but he was eventually captured and forced to sign a fairly generous peace deal. Castile would pay reparation and some ducats which was considered too light by the European nations but Khmer was the war leader so they had no choice but accept the reality. At this point, the Republic had concluded her battles in Asia with all hostile nations fully occupied and their forces annihilated. Now, it was a matter of where Nuova Italian forces would be engaging their enemies from halfway across the world. Traveling by land wasn't really plausible.

What was left of the coalition forces in the New World were dispatched at once but the Nuova Italian forces there had to remain alert and put down the rebellions that were happening fairly frequently. With all of hostile territory occupied in the New World, the new Great Doge, as a result of the birth of the Great Republic, could finally dictate the peace deals with his enemies who proved to be less threatening than most expected them to be. Khmer, as the war leader, would be the main negotiator for the coalition so the peace deal was discussed and signed in the Khmer capital.

Ah, I remember that coalition war. Khmer was stupid for launching it, since they were in no position to resist. Pretty much served as a free excuse to conquer even more land in Asia. :p

Ah, I remember that coalition war. Khmer was stupid for launching it, since they were in no position to resist. Pretty much served as a free excuse to conquer even more land in Asia. :p

Be grateful that they declared war and not France. :p

Chapter 571

With the Khmer ruler brought into the negotiations room by Nuova Italian soldiers, he sat down and merely signed the treaties dictated by the Doge. First and foremost, the nation of Khmer would be fully annexed into the Republic as the nation would trouble Nuova Italia no more. This would help secure the region more for the Republic and her protectorates. In China, Wu would lose two provinces which was a small price to pay for going against the Republic. The Wu ruler should consider himself lucky and, if he and his successors were wise, they would avoid antagonizing the Republic further.

France would lose the most from this war despite no battles occurring on French territory in Europe. The fact that they allowed the Khmer to dictate their peace deal was the price they paid for their incompetence. As a result, all French territory in the New World was ceded to the Republic. This meant that French Colombia and French La Plata were annexed while French Peru was integrated into the Nuova Venezia. The Falklands were an added bonus to the land acquired by the Republic. The coalition war would dramatically weaken the French influence of the New World giving rise to other colonial empires.

While the Republic recovered from the enormous war due to extension, the Doge sought out new allies in Europe. An invasion of Europe was highly unlikely but the race for most of the New World was still going on. Therefore, he sent a diplomat to start an alliance with England. England was a fairly significant colonial empire but her overall strength was questionable. Wales was only recently reacquired while Scotland threatened in the north. Brittany held Wesex and France controlled Cornwall so the English shared some dangerous foes who occupied her core provinces.

A small war in the New World took place between the Repubic and Haida. While this small conflict took place, the colonial nation of Nuova Toscana was given birth in the La Plata region. Soon after, Nuova Lombardia was in existence in the Colombia region. Haida was annexed shortly after as the Republic worked to prevent their Castillian allies from expanding their colonies into interior BC. As for Southeast Asia, Lan Xang had fully annexed Dali removing another nuisance in the region. A week later, the Doge declared war on Tidore and, a month later, annexed the small nation further expanding the Republic's influence in the region.

Chapter 572

There was disturbing news then the Doge learned that a French colony was spotted east of the Philippines. If the French started expanding their influence in this region, then they must surely have the ambition of launching a surprise war in the foreseeable future. Clearly, the French monarch wasn't too happy about losing his New World colonies so, as his idea of revenge, he chose to strike at the heart of the Republic. This problem would belong to the new Doge who got elected and the first action of the new Doge was declaring war for land that would be integrated into Nuova Toscana.

The reign of the new Doge didn't last long when he was struck down by illness. An elderly diplomat candidate became the new Doge as a result in time to see to the peace deal which saw Nuova Toscana expanded slightly. A short peace ensued before a war was declared on Ternate, another small island nation. Like Tidore, Ternate was annexed in a few month concluding the war. Then, preparations were made for war against the nation of Kamchatka. No one suspected this war to happen given the location of Kamchatka was northeast of Japan which seemed too far to be strategic in any ways.

War was declared because the Doge was adamant and the conflict ended in a few months giving the Republic a foothold in the region. Why the Doge even considered a foothold in these parts was anyone's guess. The answer was soon made clear when a Castilian colonial nation, Pacifico Norte, was established in Alaska. Clearly, the Doge didn't want to lose the race for these northern provinces, even if they seemed worthless at best at the time of colonization. While these colonial competitions were raging on in the north, the Doge received some pleasant news when his protectorate, Dai Viet, managed to defeat Yue and take a number of provinces.

In the peace deal, Dai Viet also forced Yue to hand Macau to Ming. Ming, being weak at the time relative to the republic, was in no position to protect the province. After a threat reached Ming Emperor to hand over Macau or war, the ruler of Ming chose the former and the Republic gained a new province. A Dai Viet provinces was also seized from Dai Viet due to the protectorate lacking a direct land connection and her navy was inefficient. Then, the Republic intervened in a conflict started by Pegu which her protectorate was losing. The Doge thought it would be wise to maintain a strong buffer between Nuova Italia and India.

I find it amusing that France would even allow all its New World colonies to be handed over by some insignificant Asian nation. Worked out for the best for Nuova Italia at least. :D

And so begins the encroachment into Asia by Europeans. Get out, France!

They just want some payback! :p

Chapter 573

Those fighting Pegu barely managed to defeat the Pegu army so, when Nuova Italian forces arrived, they were doomed. A few months since their entry, the Nuova Italian forces had won the decisive battles to completely turn the tide of the war. The sieges took longer as the attacking generals wished not to lose too many men. The local terrain and climate were already inflicting attrition on their soldiers and assaults would dramatically increase their casualties. As for the Doge, he was busy planning out colonies to halt the French attempts to get a foothold in Southeast Asia where they clearly didn't belong.

The efforts of the Doge were becoming fruitless when he learned of a French colony in Tasmania. This encroachment couldn't last much longer and, had there not been a truce, the Doge would have been tempted to declare war to show that he meant business. In addition, the Republic was also focusing a sizeable amount of their effort in Northeast Siberia following the conquest of Kamchatka. The sighting of Castilian ships in the nearby waters was disturbing and the Doge would rather not deal with another European colonial power in Asia when France would already be a handful.

Soon, the war the Republic intervened in had ended with five provinces ceded to Pegu. The Pegu ruler was very pleased with this development and promised to send generous gifts to the Doge. For the Republic, a stronger buffer was already a reward enough for the sacrifices they made in the conflict, though the enemy casualties far exceeded what they lost. With soldiers freed from this war, some were sent to Northeast Siberia to fight a new war against Chavchuveny, a neighbor of the former nation of Kamchatka. While this small conflict went on, the Doge learned that Brazil had broken free from Portugal which should dramatically weaken Portuguese influence in the New World.

The sudden development made it so the Doge didn't see it as viable to ally the Portuguese given their loss of power and influence. Days later, the news of the sole Chavchuveny province occupied arrived in Palembang and the nation was promptly annexed. The annexation also coincided with the birth of another Nuova Italian colonial nation, Nuova Piedmonte, in Alaska. Just as the truce ended between the Republic and France, the French chose to declare war on Savoy bringing them in conflict with Aragon, Castile and their colonies. Then, a new election took place with a Doge from the aristocracy elected which also saw the rise of the Aristocratic Faction which hadn't happen for more than a century.

Chapter 574

In the war against France, Aragon capitulated fairly early leaving Castile to fend off over seventy thousand French soldiers. The Republic sent subsidies hoping to aid Castile in her fight against the more powerful France. While Nuova Italian troops were moved around, the Doge learned of Portuguese Goa which had to be addressed if the Portuguese wished to get a piece of Asia after losing their South American territory when they lost the independence war to Brazil. The war for France concluded very quickly after the Castilian capital, Toledo, fell to the French. France gained a large number of provinces as a result of this war.

With the preparations made and the Doge confident in his men, war was declared on France with Naples as a co-belligerent. The preparation saw Nuova Italian soldiers landed in Castile where they began to mount an attack on French territory. Meanwhile, other forces were deployed in South Africa which was arguably the main objective of the war. The two sides had a small back and forth dance along the Castilian-French border but no battles actually took place. Soon, a rather unfavorable engagement took place in the Castilian capital where a Nuova Italian army was caught. Nearby reinforcements rushed to aid them in what could be a critical battle in Europe.

The Nuova Italian soldiers came out on top but they had double the casualties of the French rendering this a Pyrrhic victory. There was also a small engagement in Borneo where French forces won against the Brunei army. While an army was deployed to fend them off, the Nuova Italian messenger who came along returned to the capital reporting the Castilian colony in Borneo. This was a breach of trust between the two nations and many historians agreed that this action would eventually lead to the end of the alliance between the two nations. The French forces in Borneo were dealt with promptly.

What had begun as one Castilian colony soon became five Castile colonies in Borneo. How Castile could fund this many colonies was a mystery for the Doge and his subjects. While the main Nuova Italian forces were besieging French territory, a small contingent was sent to the Baleares where, upon occupying the province, proceeded to Sardinia. Sardinia, with few resistance, soon fell to the Republic with only Corsica left in the area still not occupied by Nuova Italian soldiers. Then, the Battle of Poitou took place which saw the French forces engaged with an Nuova Italian army and, before reinforcements could arrive, the battle was lost but, by then, a second battle took place as one of the reinforcements arrived without knowing the battle had ended.

Nuova Italia finally returns home, if only to kill some Frenchmen.:D

Also, Castile spamming colonists like usual. Looks like we've got a future victim!:p

I'm sure they'll need to kill even more Frenchmen if they want to get Italy back. And yes, Castile is asking for a good spanking. We all know Mike's favoritism towards Brunei. :p

Chapter 575

The Nuova Italian reinforcements were forced to fight the French and even they were repelled. However, they inflicted hefty casualties to the French who had to withdraw to lick their wounds too. Meanwhile, the Nuova Italian forces deployed to New Zealand captured the French colonies there seeing them seizing one and burning the other down. In Europe, the fall of Corsica saw the Nuova Italian forces advancing towards Sicily. The naval dominance of the Republic would prevent Neapolitan forces from interfering in the sieges in Sicily. The Neapolitan navy tried to intervene but they stood little chance with nearly all their ships sunk.

The situation in the Pyrenees had settled down as neither side wished to take the initiative in a region where the defenders had a significant edge over the attackers. Then, the fall of Tasmania should conclude all hostilities in Oceania as the main focus for both side would remain in Europe and South Africa. The situation in France was looking better for the Republic when Southern France was under occupation. No serious engagement took place since the last two so both sides expected a large clash very soon. The French then struck and nearly claimed a victory had a Nuova Italian army not reinforce in time. The French army was crushed but the Nuova Italian forces suffered heavy losses too.

The fall of Sicily convinced the Neapolitan government to negotiate and they ceded Corsica and Sardinia giving the Republic her first European territory. The Italian Peninsula was finally within reach for conquest in the foreseeable future. In French South Africa, the peasant revolts were taking the region by storm and Nuova Italian admirals could only watch as numerous settlements were ravaged by the rebellions. Then French forces, feeling the pressure, decided to launch another attack. While they were repelled due to the timely arrival of Nuova Italian reinforcements, the French soldiers inflicted very heavy losses on the Republic.

The Doge was pleasantly surprised to learn that a small Brunei army of two thousand or so had arrived in France. Their arrival might not significantly affect the war but their assistance was praiseworthy. A naval engagement soon took place and the French lost several ships as a result. This gave the French a good indication that their fleet wasn't on par with what the Republic could field. The Nuova Italian generals soon faced a difficult choice since, despite their victories, their losses were very high and they couldn't replenish efficiently being so far from home. Thus, the Doge negotiated a peace with France seeing South Africa, all of French colonies in the Pacific and Western Africa along with the Beleares in the Mediterranean ceded to the Republic.

How dare Castile desecrate the island of Borneo! There is only one nation that may lay claim to that land and that is Brunei. Brunei for life!

That should keep France from colonizing in Asia. Move too close to the beehive that is Nuova Italia and you will be stung.

I think you need to make better friends. :p

Chapter 576

Records claimed that nearly a hundred thousand Nuova Italian soldiers participated in the campaign against the French. While the number was up for debate, the Republic had to dedicate significant number of soldiers to stand against a land power like France. To protect Corsica and Sardinia that were gained from the peace deal, twenty thousand Nuova Italian soldiers were left to guard them and suppress any rebels that might choose to rise up. While this was going on, the Doge chose to end the alliance with Castile due to the Castilian colonies in Southeast Asia which was determined to be the domain of the Republic.

The arrival of Castilian influence in Southeast Asia was frustrating and, despite many warnings, the Castilian monarch chose to ignore the requests made by the Doge. As soon as Castile ceased to be an ally of the Republic, the Doge worked tirelessly to find a replacement and soon found the rising power in the Holy Roman Empire, Austria. Austria had long sought a powerful ally to assist her against both the Ottomans and France. The Republic, with only desire of the Italian Peninsula, seemed like the perfect candidate. The new alliance would see some major changes in Europe, especially when the Doge learned about the Ottomans westernizing and becoming more powerful.

The war had an added bonus for the Republic as Scotland, one of the French allies that got forgotten in history, handed over their lone colony in Eastern North America giving Nuova Italians their first foothold on this side of the continent. The end of the alliance with Castile actually saw more aggressive Castilian colonies in Indonesia to the frustration of the Doge. It was becoming obvious that the Castilians didn't take the Republic serious enough if they dared to take land that didn't belong to them. Ironically, the former Scottish colony actually bordered Castilian colonies in the region and war was becoming more inevitable with the aggressive expansions of the Castilians.

While the Republic stepped up on her expansions in the colonial race, other preparations were made to counter the Castilian threat. There was no reasoning that the Castilians were willing to heed to so only a single action was left. War was declared shortly and, with England, Brunei and Majapahit joining, the Republic looked to eliminate all Castilian influence in Asia to give them a clear message they weren't welcomed. At the time of the war declaration, the Aristocrats Faction was losing influence and, when the Doge died and was replaced by someone else, this faction lost much of its influence as the Guilds Faction took command once again.

Chapter 577

The Castilian colonies in Africa and Asia were vulnerable allowing Nuova Italian forces to easily occupy or seize them by force. The Republic decided to let Brunei took care of Castilian colonies in Borneo since the intended goal was to let them control all the provinces in Borneo. The Nuova Italian army stationed in Europe was deployed to North Africa against Algiers, a vassal of Castile. A beachhead was secured but the landing forces were soon under attack by the Castilian army there. A fierce skirmish took place before the Castilian army was routed and the path was cleared for the occupation of Algiers.

As more Nuova Italian armies were sent to North Africa, the progress in controlling the region was sped up considerably and what few soldiers the opposition had there were crushed with ease. It was during this time that news of Sweden forming Scandinavia reached Palembang. A great power was rising in Northern Europe but this development was unlikely to affect the current war against Castile. When Algiers was completely occupied, the forces there were redeployed to Castile as they strike at the Iberian Peninsula. One quick engagement saw the Castilian army forced to withdraw north while their southern provinces were occupied.

A second attempt by the Castilian armies resulted in their rout once again as the Nuova Italian armies weren't about to slow their momentum in occupying enemy provinces. Soon, they were marching towards the Castilian capital, Toledo, where they hoped to end the war soon. Sensing weakness in Castile, the African nation of Morocco declared her own war for Tangier which had been held by Castille for many decades. Toledo soon fell allowing the besieging army to attack the Castilian army which was trying to attack the smaller Nuova Italian armies in the south. Both sides suffered hefty losses in this engagement but the rout only bought more time for the Republic to cover more ground.

The situation deteriorated for Castile further when Aragon declared war on them. Being already on the losing end against both the Republic and Morocco, the entry of another dangerous foe would spell disaster for the Castilian monarch who was in exile following the loss of his capital. One of Castile's allies, Kilwa, was unable to hold up against the Nuova Italian army sent there and she soon capitulated soon after her capital fell. Kilwa gave up a few provinces in the peace deal along with reparation costs. By then, Castilian colonial nations were also losing heavily and were unable to turn their fortunes around.

Chapter 578

After a few more minor skirmishes and a lot more Castilian territory occupied by Nuova Italian forces, a peace deal finally came together between the two sides. The Doge sent what he saw as a very generous peace terms which, at this point, the Castilian monarch couldn't exactly refuse. The Castilian monarch returned to his capital when his men liberated the city but, during the next siege, he failed in fleeing and was captured as a result. Now, he had to sign the peace deal under the watchful eyes of Nuova Italian soldiers. The peace deal was swiftly signed and the conflict came to an end, though Castile still had her other wars to worry about.

The first section of the peace deal saw Castile ceding her islands in the Atlantic, African colonies and their wrongful occupation of the provinces in Borneo. The second section would result in Castile losing practically all of her possessions in the New World which greatly bolstered the territory controlled by Nuova Italian colonial nations. While most of the Nuova Italian soldiers began their trip back home, the Castilians continued to suffer losses at the hands of their enemies. Morocco finished her war with Tangier retaken from Castile. As for the Republic, the long road to regaining her manpower would be the priority in her future domestic policies.

While the Republic dealt a great blow to Castile's colonial dreams, Aragon dealt the greatest blow to the Castillians with the land lost in Iberia. Not only was central Castile ceded to Aragon but the Portuguese cores were returned to Portugal. Overall, Castile became only a shadow of her former self which all began with the war declared by the Republic. Though, some historians might argue that the Iberian nation sealed her fate when she dared to colonize in Borneo which she had no claim to. On the topic of colonization, the Republic found herself competing for colonies against France in the Nova Scotia region in North America.

New Granada, the only colonial nation that hadn't been taken from Castile, soon broke free due to the inability for the Iberian nation to maintain control when she struggled with her own domestic matters. Meanwhile, the Republic intervened in a war of Lan Xang again to aid her against Oirat Horde and Qi. While Nuova Italian forces were deployed to attack the hostile forces, the Republic got a call to arms from England regarding their colonial nation. The Thirteen Colonies had tried to break free and, fearing that their success would give Nuova Italian colonial nations ideas, the Doge answered the call to put down the revolt before it spread.

That's what happens when you mess with Brunei! Castile was warned and they felt the wrath of Nuova Italia for daring to colonize Borneo.

Looks like the Thirteen Colonies is about to discover that England has some very powerful allies who don't like the idea of independent colonial nations. It sets a bad example. :D

Now Castile is pretty much a nobody after the wars they experienced. :p

Nuova Italia now has a ton of colonies. How long before independence is desired?

I honestly don't know. Mike keeps his colonies on a tight leash. :p

Chapter 579

The revolt of the Thirteen Colonies wasn't just a random event happening when English control of the New World was waning. Instead, the independence war was supported by the Netherlands and Brittany, two nations who would benefit from a weakened England. As an ally of England, the Republic had obligations to keep her strong so England could be of some assistance in future conflicts. The conflict the Republic took part in Asia was working greatly in her favor due to the participation of Bukhara who was fighting a common enemy. Their joint forces soon laid waste to what resistance the enemy could put together.

Japanese forces in the Chinese region were also putting tremendous pressure on the enemy forces as they succeeded in taking a number of key forts. Meanwhile, Nuova Italian forces deployed to Brittany succeeded in taking one province and were working towards the Breton capital which should see an early exit of the Brittany nation in this war. Soon, the capital of the Thirteen Colonies, Delaware, was captured by Nuova Italian forces. This was a great blow to the colonial nation whose people believed they stood a chance at winning. As for the war in Asia, the Republic signed a separate peace with Qi seeing three provinces acquired.

The Nuova Italian army in Brittany were forced back when overwhelming Dutch soldiers attacked. They waited until the last minute when all hope of victory was over before they withdrew to Nuova Italian ships waiting at the coast. The English soldiers in the battle weren't so fortunate as they were massacred to the last man. The Oirat Horde, after the exit of Qi, agreed to cede three provinces to Lan Xang concluding the conflict in Asia. Peace in the region should have taken place when Bukhara negotiated peace with the Oirat Horde but the new elected Doge chose to attack Wu which had stolen technology from the Republic.

In Europe, a sudden attack by the main Dutch fleet saw three Nuova Italian heavy ships sunk and the rest forced to dock in England. This fleet and the army that withdrew to England were suddenly stranded with no way to get home until the war was over. The Thirteen Colonies tried gather all their troops to retake Delaware but they severely underestimated the Nuova Italian army and were decimated in two battles. In Asia, Wu was finally annexed after all their forts were captured. How the small nation managed to have a fort in practically all their provinces was a mystery but these didn't change the fact that they couldn't halt the advances of the Republic.

They're not America yet, they're still the Thirteen Colonies. Big difference.:p

Leave America alone, they just want to Manifest their Destiny.

They're not America yet, they're still the Thirteen Colonies. Big difference.:p

The only way America will exist on my watch is as Nuova America, or more likely named after some random region of Italy. :D

The Dutch always find a way to weasel their way into wars with me and harass me throughout the whole process. If they stopped sticking their nose in my business, I'd be fine to leave them alone.

How about Nuova Nuova Italia?:D
