Hi,

so there's that enormously long discussion 'bout RE (Byz) fantasy and/or non-fantasy events and maybee there are some outcomes from this, but I don't know about them and maybee I'm not alone. So far, there was one major update of fantasy events in EPP mod, which are the same as in AGCEPP, so there's the updated file, just replace existing fantasy events file.
I also wilfuly made some changes without conculting anyone and will surely receive 10 BB for this:
1) The reneissance event now add Slavonic culture as well and.
Time limits for absorbtion of some Turkish provinces are relaxed. (~ years more, nothing eccentric)

http://www.biges.org/AGCEEP_Fantasy_Byzantium.rar

I know there are some other updates, new leaders* etc., so post them here, if you will. Please do not discuss it there, I hope this place may serve only for upload/download.

from Mettermrck, the Fuehrer of the Dance:

If anyone wants to try it out, I integrated the IDs with 1.37.1, using available leader IDs from 09580-09599, 09575-09579, 09676-09679, and 19652-19658.

The file is here: http://www.geocities.com/vercellae/leaders.zip . Remember to backup your leaders.byz before you use it.

List of BYZ-related threads at Paradox

Hey, if you don't mind me piggybacking, this also seems like an appropriate place to bring together a list of BYZ discussions, ideas and threads. There's so much disagreement between people, mgmt, etc. that even some of the really good events just end up sitting around. Ouiji really wasn't ever an "update" - but someone tied up his events into file instead of making you cut-and-paste for yourself, so it's easier to get at.

For those who don't mind wading and have a fast internet connexion:

Also useful:

All of the threads where CK players whine about how overpowered BYZ is or how they can't keep their dynasty on top are kind of nonhelpful, right? :)

Please pm me if I'm missing anything
(it's difficult to search for threads no-one has posted to for a year or more)
& let's not clutter up this thread too badly,
jay.

There's hardly anything that sees so much action and so little outcome (nothing has been added to AGCEEP since it started). The problem is of course that's what is mostly asked for are fantasy additions, and then there's nothing real to relate to and people want everything from relatively plausible scenarios to things only Hollywood can dream up..

Honestly, though, I can't see why. In all those threads, the people who go crazy complaining are demanding that it doesn't make sense, BYZ should be crushed, there should be an event in 1453 that annexes them to TUR just in case the AI doesn't get the hint, etc.

In other words, people who aren't playing BYZ in the first place. I really think that a moderate (non-add-every-core-from-Trajan's-empire :D) set of events should be added, esp. since there's an entire setting to purify the game for the people who don't like the idea, but I guess a couple of us will have to piece it together first like Ouija did.

Considering a BYZ resurgence always depends on loans, cavalry and ships the real empire just didn't have, I can't see that it makes much difference as long as it's fun and doesn't cause MP to go haywire.

Night, everybody,
jay.

Yes, that's coming up often. I think people misunderstand, and think that all, often rather wild, ideas are going to be added to the normal scenario, and not the Fantasy version.

Sure, I agree. So far this area have had more ideas than any other, yet nothing have been submitted so far.

Well, neat-o. I've got some killer events translated from Louis-Philippe in the forum francais that just need to be toned down and some more that I'm working on. People seem to like them, but I'll get it all formatted and wotnot before I send it in.

What's always the problem with fantasy events? EU2 is still a game, not a film, right? If anybody plays BYZ or any other country, he most likely don't aim to get annexed, not at the right day, and not at all. Will people who demand historical events always play the exact historical path? The historical events are bending the game rules. Heavily. Some countries get overproportional help to force them into a specific direction. For example Moskau is expected to conquer Novgorod, become Russia, crush the Golden Horde, go to Sibir and take the mantle of the Khans, thus annexing Sibir. It gets massive help through ebents to achieve that. Would it be that easy for another country? What if I play Poland or and conquer Moskau/Russia and go to Sibir? Would I get the same help? Else, honestly, isn't that heavily cheating?

I don't mind this kind of cheating. I play to achieve different, of course unhistorical outcomes of a historical situation. Maybe I do things better than historical monarchs did, of course, as I know bad consequences. Maybe I am trying to succeed where they failed. Some people even try to conquer the world with Sioux or something like that. Some intend to reconstitute Germany, starting with a german minor. I guess most players will most likely play unhistorical while they expect the AI countries to act historical to keep the circumstances the same. I mean the circumstances under which a player wants to change the historical path.

There is another reason for fantasy events: The players actions are heavily and unnecessarily restricted. Not that for example it is impossible in EU2 that a country changes it's shape, and for example Moskau becomes Russia, or England becomes Great Britain, or a german minor becomes Germany. Just the player is not allowed to do it. But it can be made by events. Same with culture changes. Culture changes happened historically, as did religion changes. As player you can change the religion of a province with conversion. But there is no way to change the culture. This has to happen with events or by manipulating the savefile. That's even the exact and only way Byzanz turns to turkish, once the Ottomans conquer it. It's not because the player decides, but due to events. Ok, you people know this. But at least some people need to be reminded when it comes to talk about fantasy events. If the Ottomans get this massive help, than why not the Byzantines the other way around? And in some cases it's just to lift some restriction, like with culture or tag change.
