Werewolf Lite CCCXCIV: Bisclavret (Or Werewolf, More or Less)

Boldly defying gender roles or not, if your handwriting stays that size, there's not room enough to finish the story!

There are different ways to say things. One lady in the 1100s wrote "Bisclavret ad nun en bretan, Garwalf l'apelent li Norman", which more or less comes out to "In Brittany its name is Bisclavret, but the Normans call it Garou". But neither of those really matter if you know she's talking about "Werewolves".

She goes on "A Werewolf is a wild beast, so long as he's found in a state of rage, he devours people and does much wickedness as he haunts the deepest woods."


Is that a fair statement? Are these Bisclavrets/Garous/Werewolves so evil, or are they misunderstood? Maybe the differences in name are less important than differences in perception.


We can examine that now.

Early in the 21st Century, THE TYRELL CORPORATION advanced robot evolution into the NEXUS phase - a being virtually identical to a human - known as a Replicant. The NEXUS 6 Replicants were superior in strength and agility, and at least equal in intelligence, to the genetic engineers who created them. Replicants were used Off-World as slave labor, in the hazardous exploration and colonization of other planets. After a bloody mutiny by a NEXUS 6 combat team in an Off-World colony, Replicants were declared illegal on earth - under penalty of death. Special police squads - BLADE RUNNER UNITS - had orders to shoot to kill, upon detection, any trespassing Replicant This was not called execution. It was called retirement.

Welcome to the jungle!



The jungle planet of Geritlia is a quite inhospitable place. Its jungles are full of scary beasts who pose a serious threat to any human settlement---there even are rumours of beasts as large as giants. As such the planet has generally been left alone, but you have discovered a credible map leading to a long lost temple said to hold a magical and very valuable artifact! During your trip towards the temple several expedition members have already disappeared though and while they might have fallen prey to the beasts of this Godforsaken planet, you have reason to suspect that some of the expedition members have been behind the disappearances, because they don't actually have the intention of letting the artifact be used for the good of mankind, but wants to personally profit from it! You must find out whether these scoundrels actually exist and if so then get rid of them before they have you perish!

The world is embroiled in war. Unlike the wars before, however, this war is fought not by armies, but by spies: men and women who lurk in the shadows, weakening governments, supporting coups, and collecting intelligence on their enemies. The CIA is the United States' spy agency, the counter to the Soviet KGB. The Soviets, however, seek to turn their enemy's defense against their enemy, by sneakily launching an internal takeover with sleeper agents, recently awoken with orders to sabotage the agency, and bring down the Director. However, the Director will not go down easily. After a botched attempt to rid themselves of the Director, one of the double agents were caught, and revealed the existence of the conspiracy, but nothing more. It is now a race against time. The Director has disguised himself amongst his agents and has begun looking into their backgrounds, desperately trying to unmask the remaining double agents before it the CIA is taken over, and he is killed...

This time, however, King Harkinian(Who?) has elicited the aid of the nearby Mushyroom Kingdom(?) to aid (That's redundant.) their efforts at repelling the evil forces of Ganon. (Do you have any idea what you're saying right now?) Unbeknownst to the King, Ganon himself has gotten himself some new allies himself (That's it. I'm done.) in the form of Bowser, the King of Koopers and CEO of many wondrous hotels. Who will come out on top? Who will close ALL the doors? Is this the end of <MY BOY>? Despite a revival during the war, the Hads-Ning Shires Railway has done poorly in recent years. It's many years since the line has turned a profit. The losses have leveled out in recent years around 300 thousand crowns though, but with the expenses keeping to rise things are looking grim. Despite having a similar number of employees as 20 years ago in the 1938-1939 financial year, the wage expenses are 1 million crowns higher than back then! The losses are covered by the state and the involved county, city, and parish municipalities. The future of the line has been put in doubt though. Similarly the line from Odder to Horsens is threatened by closure and should that happen the Hads-Ning Shires' Railway's basis for existence might reduce further!​

You are a group of addicts recovering from the scourge of opioid addiction simply and earnestly trying to turn your lives around by seeking treatment at Arcadia Health Resources, a local for-profit hospital and subsidiary of Worldwide Health Inc, offering substance abuse counseling, mental health services, and a crisis center. Arcadia is glaringly understaffed, and the personnel they do have are demoralized, over-worked, underpaid, and either utterly burnt-out or new and incompetent due to the unbelievably quick staff turnover rate. The facility has only the most basic of security and patients regularly rob and assault each other in and around the premises. Inspectors for the Center for Medicare Services have repeatedly cited Arcadia for numerous gross violations including filthy conditions, “counselors” lacking appropriate degrees, disturbingly vague psychiatric evaluations and generalized one-size-fits-all treatment plans. Regulators have received anonymous reports of patients lacking food and blankets and patients wandering unsupervised for hours. However, because Arcadia serves patients few other institutions will touch, rather than shutter it and see the patients go untreated, the state saw fit to try to work with Arcadia to improve.

Several among you, however, are DESPICABLE DRUG FIENDS who are simply out to profit or procure additional drugs from their “treatment” and who are responsible for your miserable reputation among medical and law-enforcement personnel. These Fiends are pathological liars who miss no opportunity to steal from their fellows and who cheat the system without remorse. They value their fellow man/woman only insofar as he/she can facilitate their next high and not as an end in himself/herself. As Arcadia is laughably unable to police their patients appropriately, you must find and bring these Drug Fiends to justice before their shenanigans force regulators to shutter Arcadia HR for good. Luckily enough, one of you has a urinalysis kit (and a bit of a pee fetish) and can analyze the pee of one of your compatriots nightly for the drug metabolites that would surely characterize the urine of an evil Drug Fiend.

Werewolf CCXXII -The Bunker

When President West lost in all competing categories at the Grammys to a K-Pop singer, few imagined it would lead to a global nuclear war. Then again, few thought West would have even been able to win the Presidency, but the unlikely seems to be the norm here.

You all have been living in a fallout bunker in some mountain complex for about a year now, and while it has been peaceful until now, tensions are beginning to build. There's only so many times you can stomach what passes as food around here before you lose it, and it seems some among you have already begun looking for a way out, no matter the cost.

Unfortunately for them, in order to leave, a majority of those present must want to leave, and with the bunker's computer mainframe predicting extremely lethal amounts of radiation outside the bunker, none of those still sane enough to understand really want to leave.

Perhaps they'll have to turn to a more... persuasive method of convincing people to leave...
 
In commemoration of the tenth anniversary year of the death of Werewolf, as well as last year's brief existential crisis, please come attend the funeral and play in Lite CDV.
