A Turbulent End
1438, January 13.
AkKoyunlu has fallen into disarray. Seeing this as an important opportunity, I hope to find a way to seize upon it. Their alliance with the Timurids has long since ended. Yet, with our reputation still slightly tarnished, I cannot haphazardly invade.
So, instead I play friendly. Seeing our brethren in need, I offer them a small loan to help put down the rebellion. As I had hoped, they accept.
I hope this gambit works...
Oh, this is good...
1438, March 2-3.
Seeing that our neighbors have successfully quelled the rebellion in their capital, I send our collectors to call on our short-term loan. They are met with scorn.
Oh, this is indeed so good...
This, of course cannot stand. Our troops at the ready (they just happened to be in Azerbaijan for maneuvers), we immediately declare war. They will pay for this insult. I send word to the Ottomans. Our steady support for their expansion pays off as they agree to invade from the west, while we march from the East. Albania dishonors. Screw them.
What we've all been waiting for.
The war goes well. With the help of our Ottoman allies, we defeat their puny force and besiege both of their cities. Their new recruits are destroyed as they march off of the training grounds.
At some point in 1438 a traveller comes to Azerbaijan seeking to help us with our diplomacy at the cost of 100 ducats. As this is about 40% of our treasury, I tell him to stuff it.
1438, June 8.
Jahan Shah's coup succeeds and the crap hits the fan. Despite the harmless sounding results of this in the event box, this brings Kara Koyunlu into vassalization with the Timurid Empire. Stability drops to -3 as all of our royal marriages are broken, as well as our alliance with the Ottomans (damn!). I seek to restore the old way, but find that we have no diplomats. (shit!) It is very fortunate that I was able to bring the Ottomans into war with Ak Koyunlu before this happened.
(I cropped the date out of that last picture by mistake, but the history says it happened in early June.)
Passing Leadership
1439, January 1.
As my turn comes to a close, the war with Ak Koyunlu continues, sieges on both of their provinces halfway completed. King Jahan Shah is in Sivas, keeping that siege from falling under Ottoman control. How this war ends is up to the next player, but I would think the optimal result would be to gain Sivas while the Ottomans are in a position to annex the Akks. We must avoid letting the Ottos vassalize them though, as we'll then have little choice but for us to have to do the force-annex.
Our Badboy is roughly where it was when my turn began.
We are, at this point, still vassals of the Timurids. I didn't break in the final months of my turn, as I was hoping it would keep them quiet while the war continues, and as I was unsure if we'd need the diplomats to make a timely peace with Ak Koyunlu.
Therefore, the next player, whoever that may be, will need to remember to break this vassalization when the time is right. Our economy will be crap until this happens. The alliance with the Ottomans will need to be restored as well.
Investment is currently entirely or almost entirely on Land Tech. Figured there was no point investing in stability as long as there is still a vassalage to break...
Note that Kolkhis is revolting and about ready to fall. Also, troop maintenance is back at 50%, as the majority of the Akkie army is beat.
The next player will also have the 1439 slider change to do. And if anybody knows how to get rid of the stupid missions, then we should do so. Otherwise, you'll have to do Keep Armenia again in February...
