Yep, fanmade one is 100% better.
I do love Paradox, but this is not a good thing: in the end we paid for something that had stopped to work years ago ( Maybe last time it was really and properly working was around '16-'17, not so sure)

The least PDX could do is pull their converter out of the store, or have a full disclosure in bold letters on its page that it only works with older versions of both games.
As it is, it's really disingenuous to continuing selling it as a product, have some decency please.
It may have been an oversight at first, but it's been pointed out many times over the years and yet nothing has been done, so it's safe to assume the company is aware and deliberately decided it's fine to keep at it.
In the end, the only thing the community can do is heavily advise everyone to not buy this DLC.

They updated it today to 1.30 from 1.28. Haven't tested yet though.

I began to wonder why todays hotfix patch annoucement spoke of fixing the Converter when it appeared to be broken for long.
Makes sense if they updated it. Good to know.
Wouldn't be surprised if the mod is still a better option, but at least they don't sell an aparently broken product anymore.

In you'll be using the official converter just beware:

- a lot of added TAGs don't actually have title mappings and will never appear (actually - none, except Saluzzo's SLZ, out of 30+ added ones).
- the ages still use ancient "max_states" and other artefacts of 1.28 instead of proper governing_capacity_modifier so some countries (russia) will be hampered. There are other similar issues.
- institutions similarly haven't been updated so stuff triggering off centers of trade for example still uses obsolete "has_province_modifier = center_of_trade_modifier" (from 1.25?) instead of "province_has_center_of_trade_of_level = 1"

Not going into detailed analysis here (got other stuff to worry about) but the update, while nominally 1.30 compatible, still has a lot of bugs caused primarily by incomplete mappings and obsolete scripts.

Just be advised.
