Just go to \config\models.csv and check Japan's air units' names (that is, starting from jap_model_12_0 till jap_model_18_0 - given that CORE hasn't lengthened this list, which I guess it probably did). You'd have to send me those names so I could compare them with vanilla ones; then I could simply adapt the already existing ones to CORE, and make the missing icons from scratch.
Well, no problem... Unless it's not a super-secret-dontletanyoneseeitbeforehand-project, just send me the new hoi_counter_strip.bmp you're using and I'll see what can I do to restore all the TP's fancy symbols
Will do, probably already today.

I see your reasons but I'm afraid there's little point in doing such a thing. ...
Received and understood, I agree with your points.

As a bottom line, apart from all these graphical considerations: I must say that I really like this AAR of yours so far - congratulations and keep it going!
Well thank you again - I am much flattered!

take care of your health!
I feel somewhat better today, thank you.

EDIT: dont know the CORE tech tree, but... wouldnt it be better to have army stuff first until the chinese are finished?
Yes it would be but the availability of tech teams and their skill coupled with researching stuff ahead of time would not be a good combo. Still I decided to adapt as much tech needed for land warfare as possible. Japan's land doctrines that I started to research from day 1 haven't been completed yet at the point when my last AAR part finishes but they will be ready for when I engage in a war with Nationalistic China.

EDIT2: is that your own mod or CORE - the JAP flag isnt the state flag?
I use the flag from Titan's TP but I haven't noticed I forgot to add his flag from the pallete folder unit icons have. Is that what you meant?

Some additional encouragement to Hister:
I have just received a couple of event pics from Hagar, who is also reading your AAR and was encouraged to produce some extra pics for the Suiyuan war, the Rome-Berlin axis etc ...
So keep it up!
Wow, glad to hear that, that's great!

P.S. My latest endeavor in Guanxi Clique looks easy-peasy but at my first try my units actually got pushed back at the sea - I reloaded from the earlier date in order to be able to continue my campaign as planned! :D

Will do, probably already today.
Ok, fine. If you can, tell me as well which tags should be added to the icons and their corresponding model number (e.g. jap_model_15_2 is: L-bmb tier III, Nakajima xyz)

Oh oh, this is not very honourable for a Samurai... but I guess that nobody gets hurt if you do so ;)

@Titan: These are all Japanese air assets (CORE didn't lengthen the list). I don't know which tags should be added to the icons and their corresponding model number so I am politely asking anyone from the dev team to add that to my quote below in hte form suggested by Titan: (e.g. jap_model_15_2 is: L-bmb tier III, Nakajima xyz)

I'll send you CORE hoi_counter_strip via PM now.

Ok, thanks. The tags issue is simple: it's just the name you see in the production screen when you select an aircraft for production (e.g. Ftr, Int F, Nav, Str etc.). As it seems to me that CORE changed some of these tags (i.e. there are light and medium bombers, right?) I'm just wanting to know how are they called in the abbreviations in the production screen, in order to add the same tags to the icons.

Precisely, thanks!

However,

Hister, would you mind if, for the time being, I'd keep the current, standard AoD naming (i.e. Fig/Ftr, Int, Tac, Str etc.) instead of using CORE's tags?

If it's a lot less work for you then yeah but I would otherwise be for CORE's reclassification.

Well, yes, it would spare me some work.

Now that I look at that list, though: have you tried copying my aircraft over the CORE ones? They should match (apart from a few exceptions) so you could use them as they are, for the time being.

By the way, sent you the updated counters for CORE  (and the other modification you asked me)

I haven't tried - will make a backup and see how it goes.

Thank you for the counters and the gift. Shall be seen in my next update.

Very interesting AAR so far. Good to see CORE has a lot more events then vanilla AoD, and the tech tree looks impressive too. Great detail in all your posts as well :D

Nice to see you over at this side Mr_Bonaparte and thank you. My plan was to have more detailed coverage in first AAR parts and afterwards less so when the game continues because it would otherwise get too tasking for me and too boring and repetative for you guys to read. So expect a less detailed report in Part 6 - hold fists that Nationalistic China doesn't declare on me prematurely for my belligerent behaviour or we'll be scre***!

Thanks, good plan but for me there's no such thing as too much detail :p Haha, if Nat China does declare war I hope you do accept the challenge  Think of it this way: it would give a big dissent hit for China and increase their belligerence, not yours, Japan could be the 'good' guy. :)

Good thinking, very good thinking.

I wouldn't end my AAR if China declared on me but maybe I would get pushed out of the South and Manchuria would get flooded 'cos local troops wouldn't be able to hold on for ever. Hmmm, interesting, would make for a totally un-orthodox game, he he

Thanks, I normally try to look at the bright side of everything.

Good good, oh yeah I didn't think of that, good thinking too. I suppose that's only a worse case scenario, and if China did do that it would most likely have overextended its supply line and certainly have divided its military force, while also providing Japan more areas to target for amphibious invasion. Being unorthodox is what normally makes AARs even more interesting. ;)

OK guys, just a quick heads up - I have a lot of material ready for AAR, maybe too much. Will have to shorten it somehow. If divine Emperor will be on my side I'll be able to put up part 6 this weekend.

that's great...it is looking very good as usual from the core team...i played hoi core from the time it came out on the same disc as hoi did...love your complex tech tree's. looking forward to giving it a try:)

Quick overview of some of the new v0.60 mod features via a short Japanese campaign (Part 6)

Campaign in Guanxi Clique

Our troops have proved their vigour, determination and resilience in the Guanxi campaign. Although the war is not yet over our men act like it already was. We can't blame them and their high spirits though because enemy troops are actually in full flight, surrendering to us or what is more common - swapping their uniforms for the civilian clothes. Many of them also went into guerilla resistance groups which are proving to be a big menace for our transportation capabilities in the area. If we can draw any conclusions from this complication is that security forces are of utmost importance and will be needed en-masse in our future conquests.

Drive towards the west, towards Bosse and it's temporal administrative centre of what remains of Guanxi Clique is just one huge mop-up mission. Success of our troops is being unofficially celebrated trough the Home Islands in cold November days which might be one of the reasons why our home front has been finally united again to a very high degree. Enthusiasm throughout our realm is unrelenting and people just can't wait for the official declaration of war's end and it's accompanying public celebrations to take place.

Purpose Designed Carrier Air-group Policy has been finally adopted by our naval forces at the end of November so we can now use Yamamoto to research Underway Replenishment which will considerably boost our maritime capabilities when implemented.

On 29th November our first produced submarine is put into the sea and assigned to it's home port in the Pacific.

Guanxi Clique surrendered! It's 30th November and our troops stationed in southern China are relieved that some of the men will be able to get home and see their families again. Whole Japan is on it's feet, main streets in Tokyo have been lavishly decorated and people's loud cheering can be heard in every corner of the country. Public ceremonies and celebrations are being held in all major cities and there are huge numbers of spectators attending them.

Local supporters of our cause are not in abundance in Guanxi for now but their numbers are sufficient in order for us to be able to make Guanxi Clique our puppet. New government has been set up on the day of previous government's surrender and will run this state under our close inspection and guidance.

Guanxi secured, winter sets in...

Winter has set foot on the islands and everything seems to have slowed down after our recent triumph - even more so because this winter's temperatures are surprisingly low and there is an abundance of snow which has caused quite many problems throughout our realm. Not everybody was dissatisfied with the frizzy winter though. One could hear this song sung by children eager to go out and play on the snow quite often in those days...

yuki ya konko, arare ya konko
futtewa futtewa zunzun tsumoru
yama mo nohara mo wataboshi kaburi
kareki nokorazu hana ga saku

yuki ya konko, arare ya konko
futtemo, futtemo, mada furiyamanu
inu wa yorokobi, niwa kakemawari
neko wa kotatsu de marukunaru

Frozen landscapes are beautiful but also unconformable. Rumours have been circling that Nationalistic China's government has been gearing up for war. We doubt Nat. China can afford to declare war on us but fear is present nevertheless. We currently don't master enough troops to be able to hold the northern Chinese front. We have high doubts Manchurian units would be motivated enough to hold the currently established borders without our strong troop presence in the area.

Cold winter didn't manage to stop our progress on the military front - by now static defence has been fully implemented by our land army's stuff and first preparations have been undergoing for yet another land doctrine.

In January 1937 a lot of emphasis has been put on the advantages standing army has over the drafted one so once again steps are being made for the new policy to fully set in.

January is also the month when battlecruiser Kongo got re-commissioned and assigned to Carrier Task Force.

While our soldiers guarded newly established borders in Chinese lands our diligent employees finished first set of infrastructural improvements in Fukuoka and Osaka. Japan is modernizing at a very quick rate but those that have been in USA or any other highly developed country know that we still have a lot of work ahead of us.

Spring is slowly chasing the stubborn winter away and as plants and animals started to swap their winter sleep for a powerful desire to emerge so did Mongolian Prince Demchugondrub. He notified us that long forthcoming preparations in Suiyuan are concluded - his troops are ready to attack! What shall we decide - will we give him the green light? Does starting another set of open hostilities suit our gambling nature or would this risk our precarious position too much? Nationalist China is fully aware what kind of game we play and might intervene on their behalf which might end prince's dreams abruptly and get in the way of our long term plans... But opportunity is ripe and Shanxi's forces might be utterly surprised.

Stick around dear readers - I bet you are dying to learn what happened next! ;)

A)
I assume "20th submarine division" is a long-range sub unit? We have to do some checking in unitnames.csv there ...

B)
I see why you had problems with Marco Polo Bridge - got to change the triggers ...
