Good news everyone!
The ST: New Horizons Beta launch is imminent, and with it some changes to the structure of the mod that players will want to take account of.
As some of you may know, Stellaris mods distributed through the Steam Workshop are subject to a 2gb size limit, which New Horizons has been close to for a while now. In order to continue to deliver great new content, we will be releasing a Content sub-mod. Going forward, new ship sets and high-res assets will be included via this sub-mod.
"What if I don't have the sub-mod?"
We've designed the sub-mod and main-mod in such a way that players will still be able to run the game with only the main-mod. However, as we add new shipsets, music, etc., the experience with the sub-mod will continue to improve.
"What's in the sub-mod?"
In order to minimise disruption and give players time to subscribe to both the main-mod and the sub-mod, the sub-mod will launch containing a number of high-res image assets such as 4k quality loading screens. As we add new ship sets, Orion or Hirogen for instance, these will be included in the sub-mod.
In addition to the Content sub-mod, we have also created an optional Borg UI mod to coincide with the Beta release. We have the good fortune of the talented Cutter Slade working on a number of other UI mods for other major species, and as time goes by players can expect to have a number of UI options available to them. But as you would expect, only one UI mod should be activated at any given time.
We hope this makes the situation clearer!
