Dear readers, welcome to the 2nd part of this AAR. For most it will be a whole new story, for the others the continuation of the short part I than was played in EU3.

As you probably know there is no EU3 to Victoria converters so I simply modded the original 1836 scenario to fit with what I have built in part I. I had made myself conversions rules than you can see in the begining of the first part.

This 2nd part will be played with the latest version of VIP than don't handle Revolutions. Yup, this won't be played with Rev., wich mean no capitalists building stuff at my place (notice to the persons than would give me the advice of converting pops to capitalists).

Also take in note than I will mostly do the gameplay part of this story, while Masked Pickle will do the historical background.

But enough of discussion, let me present the you the young and ambitious nation of Mexico.

(for a more complex description of the previous history, please see part I)

Mexico gained independence in 1818, 8 years after the begining of the war of independence. During the peace treaty with Spain, Mexico was granted the control of Florida and all the territories formerly included in the viceroyalty of New Spain, minus Cuba and the Phillipines. It expended into the northern territory of Oregon, and gained control over Hawaii and Tahiti (Tahiti was then lost in 1826 after a native uprising).

The Mexican nation, arranged into a constitutional monarchy, succeeded into keeping its territorial integrity even with the tensions in the provinces of Central America and the difficulties than apeared when the time came to handle the enclaved territory of Florida. However, in an effort to exploit its vast territories the Mexican government incitated English-speaking settlers to come and populate the region of Texas, wich is now in an open rebellion.

Various facts about Mexico

1836 Mexico is not a very advenced country; its low literacy is limitating technological advences and its population is mostly rural. Speaking of population, Mexico's one is not huge but its the 2nd in the Americas, not so far behind the USA. It is very mostly catholic. The industrial base of the country is small, but there is worse. Its army is the bigest in Latin America.

More to come later, this is just a presentation of the country.

Hm, looks interesting! Your Mexico certainly has a whole lot more potential than the Mexico in a normal Vicky game. Good luck!

Wow! Looked over part one, this one is a nice set up to Mexico's progress - but a world update will also be in order :D

good luck in this vicky aar and on to Hearts of Iron!!!

Resubscribing - shame about Tahiti!

I'd say good luck but I'm sure you won't need it - I'm looking forward to seeing you establish a Catholic Spanish speaking hegemony over North
America.

:D Great to see you back with the second part. I'll be following, just as with part 1

MEXICAN HISTORY 1820-1836

The dream of an Empire of Mexico, a strong Latin and Roman Catholic monarchy able to balance the unequalled strength of the United States was meeting great disillusionments.

200px-Emperor_Agustin_I.JPG

First, Agustin I of Iturbide (see above), former officer of the Spanish colonial forces who self-proclaimed Emperor, was trying to follow Napoleon's example, and being recognized as such by his worldwide counterparts. But Napoleon was deposed and dead, and Agustin I was only regarded as a megalomaniac general who decided to put a crown in his head in order to impress his subjects and his neighbours. Even if his legacy was ensured (five of his ten children were boys), Emperor Agustin I was not regarded as a monarch by the European monarchs, the American presidents, and even by his own collaborators.

The Constitution of Mexico was supposed to be democratic and respected, but the reality was far from it. The principle of the equality between Indians, Creoles and Mestizos was not respected by the wealthy landowners throughout the country, who were disobeying the official rule; soon, generals arrived and managed to destroy any traces of democratic government, fighting each other for power and making pompeous pronunciamentos. But no one ever tried to overthrow the monarchy, as they were not truly interested in politics and were considering that the Emperor was a good puppet. The last victor of these power struggles was general Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna (see above), a flamboyant tough guy and a hero of the Independance War.

180px-Stephen_Austin_and_dog.jpg

As the gold reserves of Mexico were going bankrupt, with the corruption and the lack of control on the whole country, Santa Anna decided to engage a program of colonization of the large areas on the North of Mexico: Tahiti and Hawaii islands were too far from the Empire, and the Mayan peoples in Central America were too defiant towards the central power of Ciudad de Mexico to accept colonization. But the inhospitable deserts of Texas and Arizona were not tempting the Mexican volunteers, except for the devlopement of California, already considered as a blessed country. Santa Anna decided to call to the American government for volunteers, and Washington responded happily, seeing an opportunity to purchase a new state; as they thought, the English-speaking populations of Texas, led by Stepen Fuller Austin, decided to revolt against the dictorial rule of Mexico...And maybe joining later the United States.

The Texas Revolution had begun.

Welcome to the Victoria section! Hope you enjoy your stay :).

Good luck with the Texans- make sure you take your siestas when the enemy are a safe distance away!

good start so far, good to see the monarchy hanging in there. First order of buisness: survive the texas revolution, hold off the Americans, and get European Immigration. Second order of buisness: economic self-sufficiency and territorial expansion. I'll be watching!

Give the Texans what they deserve!

here here !!!! forget the Alamo the secret service of mexico will make it never happen!!!

I enjoyed the Eu3 part of this AAR, and this section looks to be just as good.

Thanks everyone for the positive comments, it is really encouraging. The real action will begin tomorrow, in Texas of course. ;)

Im also wanting to say than there won't be any cheats in this AAR. Cheats include things like Chinese province purchase and all other exploits like that, as well as F12 cheats. Im far from being an economical genius wth that game but I will do my very best to handle the economy of Mexico and hopefully convert it into an industrial nation.

The Texan Rebellion

As soon as the Texans proclaimed independence, the Mexican forces where gathering near the Rio Grande to crush the insurection. Under the command of general Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, the imperial army was ready to strike in the middle of February.

invasionplanxq5.png

According to Santa Anna's plans, the biggest of the army would cross the Rio Grande near Corpus Christi and drive back the small Texan offensive. Two regiments are going to be transported by the Navy via the gulf of Mexico, with the mission of disturbing Texan organisation.

A Mexican victory is almost certain, but the challenge is to acheive it as quickly as possible, before the USA could send support to the rebels.

battleske0.png

As planned, the Imperial army pushed the Texans back from Corpus Christi, and then the Mexican forces divided in two- a group on San Antonio, and the other on the city of Houston (wich was named in honnor to the chief of the rebels- Santa Anna plans to give his own name to the city later).

Meanwhile, in Washington...

manifestdestinyow5.png

The declaration is a certain threat to us. Can Mexicano-American friendship, already tarnished by the Texan rebellion, survives year 1836?

After the liberation of San Antonio, the Mexican army converged to the Texan capital of Austin. But unfortunatly....

battles2om9.png

Santa Anna was held prisoner for a week in a Texan prison. Fortunatly for him, the rebels concluded than a general able of such mistakes was not a big threat to their country but a distabilizing factor for their ennemy. He was returned to Mexico and effectivly humiliated, and removed any innitiative for the rest of the war. In a last effort to keep correct relations the US president refused to intervene in the Texan rebellion, wich was a vey good thing as an American intervention would prove to be a disaster for Mexico.

----------

The war ended in June, with the capitulation of the rebels. They where brought back into the empire, and no importants measures where took against them. After all, its the Mexican government than wanted them to come in and the country still need them. A few divisions shall however be keeped in the region to prevent any stupid action from them.

The Mexicans soldiers won the war because of their larger number, better organisation and superior uniforms.

See that's the problem with the Texan Revolution in Victoria- it's almost impossible to lose if you play as Mexico! Anyway, I hope this victory is a step on the way to resisting the USA better than the real-life Mexicans did!

And I loved the "superior uniforms" bit by the way :D.

Very promising start, looking forward to see how things develop. Surely USA want those cores back sooner or later.
