EU4 - Development Diary - 2nd of October 2018

Good day all and welcome to today's Dev Diary for EU4. Yesterday we released the free 1.27 Poland Update, packed with free content, map changes, bugfixes and such. Today we're going to be talking about the release as well as our plans going forward.

Firstly, with the Poland Update, we have updated EU4 to be GDPR compatible. You may have noticed a Privacy Policy when you tried to launch the game for the first time after the update. As part of this, we also had to remove the old versions from Steam due to them not being GDPR compliant but fret not if you want to keep enjoying the golden oldies. This link contains everything you need to know to get your old version back.

Now the Poland Update has our players making wealth common and impaling left & right. We'll be keeping our eyes on any issues that are coming in from players. We already have a plan to release a prompt fix for any serious issued popping up including but not limited to:

  • Centenarian Venetian Doges.
  • Lithuanian infeasibility in forming PLC
  • Some users not being able to start the game due to missing dependencies
As well as any other serious issues which we see occurring for users in 1.27 Poland

But beyond Poland, what lies in store for EU4? Well, as I mentioned just after Dharma, we're now looking to put the Europa back into Europa Universalis. With extensive love poured into India, The Far East and the Near East, it's high time we brought some attention back to Mother Europe. Poland was a good start, but we'll be rolling up our sleeves and getting to work on an Immersion Pack for our next release. Where will we be focusing? Well, the Pet Shop Boys would be pleased, because we're going to Go West!

Next week @neondt will do what he does best with the upcoming map changes in 1.28.

Highest time for Iberia focus, one of the most powerful and important regions of the time wasn't touched since release. Let's just hope HRE will be the target of the following big DLC

Noooo! But what about the HRE! :(

Suits me to have an immersion pack for Iberia; the HRE's basic dynamics haven't changed since EU3, we need a full-size expansion to sort that mess out.

Love the game and the expansions. I play it almost every day.

Can one finally ask for trade power from countries, which receive trade power, in a peace deal?

Let's hope they're extra careful with the placement of cities this time. ;)

I hope that not only Spain and Portugal will be touched, but also southern France, Italy and Maghreb. It would make sence, since Rule Britannia touched France and the Netherlands and Third Rome touched Lithuania. The lack of ideas in Maghreb and big ugly provinces in all of these three regions are dissapointing. Also new tags with NI would be welcome addition.

It’s harder to get wrong when there are actually significant urban centers around and the terrain isn’t one big steppe :p
Say that to Poland xD

I was thinking to myself while empaling an ottoman sultan yesterday that the balkans greatly need and even deserve an immersion pack for it is the only region to have not recieve custom units with special things etc!

Been enjoying the new update. Started a Poland game last night. I am excited about the potential Spain update. One of my favourite areas to play in. Two points I would like to make though.
1) After some Euro love can we get some more attention to Africa. It feels very lacking (in terms of content) in comparison with Europe and Asia.
2) I love the mission system, but nations with generic ones aren't as fun to play anymore. I suggest keeping the new system and continue to build on it, but to also re-introducing the old mission system for previous repeating missions and the like. Instead of calling it missions, name it something like "National Agenda" for example

Keep up the good work.

Want to chime in with @Mr. Java : make sure to include Granada! Just don't nerf them at least, but you do not need to make them easier either. Some flavour would be great though. Would not mind seeing Alahambra and Beacon of Learning NIs tweeked a bit though: 10% for the later is just a bit low (but not asking for the tech cost reduction to be brought back, as great as that would be!) and for the former seems Alahambra should do something more or different... but anyhow, I am okay with it :)

I was hoping for a large expansion dlc covering the HRE and Italy before another Immersion Pack but getting Iberia over and done with first makes sense.
Any estimate on that hotfix?
