Et ainsi sonne le glas de l'Action Libérale Populaire...

I'm little sad to lost my dear party but I will vote for it heir, le Bloc National!

Even if I don't like the German settlement, it secure the west bank of the Rhine, and we must defend the democracy at home of the left and right threats, while the alliance with the British is too important to be lost.
I also particulary like the Middle-East and Balkans settlements (Italy deserves the Adriatic!), and I suppose that the germans colonies are a necessary sacrifice if we want to keeps the UK friendly. Moreover, we have our own colonial empire to administrate, and he is quite tall!

Bloc National

I cannot support a party that would trample upon democracy and throw us into a civil war. While I support the foreign programme of the Action Francaise their domestic policies would mean disaster. What is the point of securing the outer borders of France if we surrender to tyranny right here at home? Therefore I vote Bloc National and hope that their faith in the germans will not prove misplaced.

We cannot alienate the Germans. If we enforce too harsh a peace on them, then they will resent us even more than they already do, and this "peace" will be nothing more than an armistice for 20 years.

I am also not particularly opposed to an economic system run by workers' councils, so long as French democratic socialism is not muddled with authoritarian Russian Bolshevism.

No! Socialism is evil! They have vowed to kill democracy! The legacy of Napoleon! Look, if we are in the National Bloc, we can change what is done! Don't give your vote simply due to a small reason! If you give it now and they win, you will never have one again!

National Block, although I believe that Rhineland should be occupied by French and British troops and given back to Germany after 30 years - annexation of German territory is not a good long-term option. Germany cannot be crippled economically and its existence is important for the European economy and balance of power on the continent. A rump state (or several rump states) would serve no one in the long-term.

I vote for Action Française-Bonapartiste

Action Francaise

The left must not let the death of Frenchmen be in vain by squandering our one chance for lasting glory and peace! Unite around the monarchy and destroy the warmongering Germans!

The germans are not warmongers, they are normal people, just like the frenchmen. They also have died in the millions in this damned war, just like the frenchmen. You are the ones dishonouring our fallen with this jingoist utterance full of hatred, which, mark my words, will only lead to more war in the near future. The only thing the german folk is guilty, is of being misguided by their leadership, who used the same ultranationalist and militaristic speech our government used to fool the people into believing this war was fought for the glory of France, hiding the truth behind this convenient lie: the war was fought because of colonies, strategic resources, markets and ultimately money, and nothing but it.

We did not choose this war and the motivations for the aggressors may well have been as you describe them. We fought because we had no choice. Had we abandoned Russia to defend Serbia alone Germany would now be the undisputed sovereign of Europe and France would then have been forced to fight the next war in desperate defense. We did not fight for glory, though it is ours in victory. We fought for survival and you are the one who is dishonouring our fallen by claiming their great sacrifice has been in vain.

We owe it to our fallen to build upon their victory a position of strength that will ensure that such sacrifices will not have to be made again against the same enemy.

I have not said a single time their sacrifice was in vain, and also didn't say France was not forced to fight. I'm saying that the cause for this war was not "german warmongering" or any other issue related to negative characteristics which supposedly the german people have. You say the germans forced us to declare war on them because they attacked our ally Russia. Well, following this line of thinking, the germans can rightfully say they were forced to attack Russia, since the Tsar invaded their ally Austria-Hungary. Reaching the root of this, we have Austria-Hungary claiming that they simply couldn't let Serbia walk away without punishment after a terrorist with strong relations to the Serbian government killed Franz Joseph's heir. I believe if we follow your logic, you should be blaming Gavrilo Princip, not Germany, but we both know those are just excuses, not the real reasons behind this horrific conflict.

Did you not say that our government lied to the people and the only reason we fought was for material gain?

If I recall correctly Germany declared war on Russia before Russia had declared war on Austria-Hungary and on France before we declared war on them, they invaded Belgium out of mere expediency. The German leaders eagerly lept at the chance of war, discarding all but the shadow of a fig-leaf for an excuse. That may not be the fault of the German people, though many were just as eager to support their governments aggression, but it clearly shows that a strong Germany that has the capacity and confidence to fight will always be a threat to its neigbours. Even if we give them the most generous of terms they may still seek to avenge their losses if they believe themselves strong enough.

So far it seems that the two parties that were on top last election flooped. The National Bloc is winning, thanks in part to the fact that it is an umbrella orginization. The Radical Left is second by a wide margin, but it seems that they still have steam in their engine. I'm predicting about 30 votes this time around, so we are about half done. I could always be wrong though...;)
