One must utterly reject the notion that slavery is perpetual within our nation, to claim so would be libel and slander. As my administration has proven concrete and powerful steps can be made towards the ejection of the institution from our lands without the alienation of the South. We pushed forward with carefully crafted and considered legislation dedicated to seeing the gradual reduction of slavery through means of compromise and co-operation as is possible between civilised peoples. This legislation has proven most successful. While I may stand against any who seek the instant aboltion, which would bring in its wake disaster and conflict to anyone who claims that our nation may simply stand still on this is both delusional and presents as much a danger as the radical fringe of my own and other parties. The path of history is already determined in this respect, and shall guide us towards abolition, not merely within our own borders but across the world.
The wave of liberalism, and freedom, and democracy, shall sweep the world.
