I still don't know what was going on in your mind with expanding to italy first.. you could have easily annexed several places in greece. then you would have had enough power there to take on macedonia.

now you missed a lot of chances.. and there isn't much more to gain in italy, you could have taken all of greece.

Personally I like it when sometimes things go unexpected and untried ways. But yes, you are right. Then again, playing like this will make the game longer before Epirus gets overpowerful and thus it'll remain interesting longer.

I enjoy random things in the game as well. I hope he is able to find somewhere to go. but it will be hard since illyra and macedonia have reached a pretty high strength.

and rome is expanding faster than I would've thought.

The council does not provide any obvious goals, but most seem to support expansion in Hellas. Unfortunately for Pyrrhus he dies before he can set any plans into motion.

Our new king is his son Helenus. Not quite as impressive as his father, but we can manage.

Well as he is eager to prove himself war is declared in Macedonia, but the king lets others lead the army. The Aetolians, who started paying us tribute the month before, gladly agree to support us, but the Achaean League refuse, we may want to deal with them later but now we focus on Macedonia. The Macedonian army may be slightly larger (22k, ours is 16k) but it is defeated. But while we are busy winning against the Macedonians, Rome decide to invade supported by their Samnite, Etruscan and Massiliote allies.

While the army we have over there is mostly militia it is hoped it can keep back the Romans and their allies but unfortunately all of them have also managed to find good commanders, and the Roman army is larger and have lots of heavy infantry, so things does not go as hoped. In fact the army there is annihilated in a fierce battle. Meanwhile the war against Macedonia is going well.

However, very surprisingly Rome agrees to a white peace. They may fear our army in Macedonia, but it is only half the size of the Roman army. Earlier in the war they had refused getting just Campania (while they demanded Campania, Lucania and Apulia). Regardless of why they agreed, there is peace with them.

Macedonia is later crushed. Thessaly, Argolis, Euboea and Crete are now ruled by the Epirote king.

We establish an alliance with Rhodes, but soon find ourselves in a war in the west. Carthage invades Syracuse with a massive army, and we come to the aid of the beleaguered Syracusans.

Syracuse sadly falls quickly to the Carthaginians and its independence is ended. However the Carthaginian army foolishly tries to invade our territories and is completely crushed. Sicily is soon brought under Epirote control, and Africa is invaded. However as a numerically superior well-led Numidian army approaches we retreat. However much we may want another invasion, our hopes for that is dashed as our Rhodian allies call for help. The Bosporan Kingdom and their Pontic allies are trying to invade.

A number of indecisive naval battles occurs in the Aegean. In the end we have the upper hand, but our navy is now to small to transport our main army. However Carthage then surrenders, Syracuse is now free under Epirote protection.

One month after that war ends, the Bosporans and Pontics agrees to a white peace. All is good, except Rhodes deciding to cancel our alliance. But we have peace, and our fleet is rebuilt, and now it is again time to decide what we should do.

The Aetolian League are our loyal allies, and they pay us tribute. Rome is allied with the Samnites, Etruscans and Massilia. Carthage is allied with Massyli. The Seleucids are probably too powerful to fight. They receive tribute from Armenia, Iberia, Egypt and Atropatene and they are allied to Pontus, Iberia, Egypt and Atropatene. The tiny Macedonian kingdom pays tribute to the Thracians. The Barbarians to our north are all allied to each other, except the Scordisci who stands alone. The Achaean League also stands alone, and the same goes for Rhodes.

The Achaean League has been independent long enough. And when the truce is over, annex Macedonia as well.

After that, I'm sure the Aetolians will no longer want to pay us tribute but want to make their subservience to Epirus official ;)

Conquer the Achean League, then Rhodes, Then Macedonia. Achean league and Rhodes will probably be conquered by someone elase if you don't get their first.

Conquer Achaean League and Macedonia. Maybe go for Rhodes. After that, gather your strength, and carry the fight to the Illyrians!

I suggested at first you shouldve gone after greece.. now you are surrounded by illyra which would not have been a problem. and rome seems a lot stronger.

the only important allies are the major powers, any others won't help you to much. you probably shouldn't have taken syracuse, that is an easy target in a war if they block the pathway.

it's very good to see you got white peace, that is unexpected. you need to start annexing in greece, and conquering. or else the seleucids or pontus will instead. then you are in trouble.

Since it was asked our Basileus, Helenus, is 50 years old, intelligent, merciful, ambitious and sceptical. A confident conqueror with modest grasp of military matters (6), is a bit charismatic (6) and has almost no finesse whatsoever (2).

As all want to see Achaean League and Macedonia annexed (though there is some debate as to whatever should be our third target), they are our targets. First up is Achaean League. Unfortunately our attempts to decrease relations so that the loss of stability is minimized initially fails, as our agents succeed in their missions and avoids being discovered.

Eventually one is captured by the Achaeans, so to war we go. As soon as they hear we are at war in Greece, the Romans declared war themselves. However the Achaean League is unable to put up much of a fight and is quickly defeated. They are reduced to one province and is forced to pay a large tribute. As we just before the war got a mission to conquer Sparta we immediately get a core, which is nice.

Our main army is quickly transported to Megale Hellas, and we manage to after three years of fighting defeat Rome and force them to surrender their claims to our provinces. But before we can go to war with Macedonia the Seleucids declare war.

kbbyu9.jpg

They appearantly feel that we are their rivals and who can argue with that. Their loyal lackies Egypt, Iberia and Atropatene join the fight as well as Pontus. I expect Iberia and Atropatene to be largely irrelevant in this war being far away and landlocked. The Seleucids will be the main enemy, but Pontus and Egypt might have decent navies and enough military forces to cause problems.

Now what should we attempt to accomplish in this war? Just white peace our should we set our ambitions higher? Should we call in our allies, the Aetolians, confident in that we can prevent any invasions and to make sure our enemies do not declare war on them soon after we sign peace (although our enemies navies should probably end this war at the bottom of the sea, meaning the risk of them going and successfully annexing minors while we are unable to act should be very low)?

It can't hurt to call your ally. Even if they are defeated and annexed during the war, that's a close by province for you to use as leverage.

you need to get out of that war.. since you so easily took care of rome, focus on them.

try to get white peace, taking a region from the seleucids will only make your empire to wide.

it would be a good idea to control all of italy before hand.

I think you should call in your ally, but seek a white peace.
As Warlord said, it's probably a good idea to beat up Rome a couple more times. :)

Get a white peace, and then go conquer Rhodes.

Noone in favor in even attempting to get the west coast of Asia Minor? Where is the ambition? After all even if we decide to aim for Pergamon, Lydia & Caria it does not prevent us from accepting a white peace if it seems we can't hope for more (as when we tried to get Panormus from Carthage). We already have the ability to raise and pay the upkeep for a new army, so having a local army to protect those provinces is no problem.

Currently it seems the goals would be white peace with the Seleucids and then conquer Rhodes.

With regards to the Achaean League. Should we leave it as it is until they are tired of the tribute so we conquer them, or should we give them the oppurtunity to join in an alliance (that is to be terminated if they stop paying tribute so that we can conquer them)? Or end the payments ourselves when we can and then conquer them?

If you can get multiple provinces there then I'd say OK, but if you can get only one province on the Asia Minor west coast then it's not worth the trouble. Get Cyprus instead then from the Seleucids.

As for the Achaean League, you should be the one to decide when you take them out (option 3).

Ambition or the longing of death?

Conquer Achaea asap.

No more violence! No more conquest! What have you done, embarking on a long and terrible campaign of perpertual warfare, while neglecting the needs of our citizens? Why should the best and brightest of our young men to die just so that you posters gain some sort of glory? We need to focus instead on the people within our glorious empire, not the whims and desires of Militarists! At the end of the day, our government serve the people, the people do not serve the government.

Turn into a republic and put the Populists into power. The Populists, being close to the people, are the ones best able to provide for the welfare of the people.

Destroy Achaea.
