I totally agree with others, take the OR.
Just to answer this part in general. It is true that very rarely a game is lost due to food because there are very few ways that you can lose food, however a low food count can force you to make sub-optimal plays which can end up costing you the game. (I am not talking about this game, I fully support taking the OR for this crisis instead of the skill check)
