where is xxx8 and xxx7?

The british are going to need more events i think Josquius, one for each situation since from where i see it the british can get pretty screwed from trying to extend the lease and the chinese agree. It would end up with china getting the cash and HK.

XXX7 is done.
8 is the future one so not important yet.

Well action a is 95% to happen isn't it with A/B?
So with the first event its 90% everything goes as planned and even if it gets into extension of the lease I'm sure the computer won't go that dodgy and get 5%s all the time.
As for player abuse.
Well thats humans for you.

It'll just be a repeat for in 99 years time then probally in another 99 years after that.
The chance of it happening with the computer though is astronomical and I doubt the player will play that long at the moment.

Added a owned thingy to the event. What does the data=1 mean after owned?

Yey approaching 500 posts :D

re: ireland

for the ulster event, make sure you have BIG riots there if ireland gets the place. i'm pretty sure the majority population in NI would not be happy being sold out by westminster. IMHO, the event should only happen after an "extremists win political ground" random event in ireland, which would illustrate the worrying rise in the IRA's popularity here. that, combined with a weak government in london (charles kennedy never was cut out for the job... ;) ) would probably lead to pressure on the UK to give ulster to ireland. that of course would lead to civil war... :(

Ok, I'm finished with fixing your mistakes in the Hong Kong events. Its a very linear matrix, I hope to probably use the new flag stuff with 1.06 sooner or later but this version of the HK events looks sturdy.

P.S. Jos, you need to add an extra } after each action :D

Now Josh brought it up, their should be an event for the 2001 riots against the British controlled sovereign Navel base's in Cyprus. and we should have military access to the islands (if we dont have already) and maybe ships docked their

Sorry, I don't know how to script or anything, so I'll just post p my ideas and if someone out there is kind enough... :D

First up, Thatcher's resignation and the fallout.

Thatcher Resignation

Time: 1st Jan 1991 (As soon as game starts)

Desc: The Conservative party has been in power for 12 long years with their dominating leader Margaret Thatcher seemingly in firm control of the reigns. However by 1990 the Cold War was, for all intents and purposes, over and many party members saw Thatcher as a left over relic. Europe was now eager to unify and stat reform, heading towards an eventual European superstate of some sort. To say this issue divided the Conservative party would be a groos understatement; seemingly every MP held a different opinion on how it should be approached. When in 1990 Michael Heseltine challenged Thatcher for the party leadership Thatcher won the ballot, but had too small a majority to win outright. With many party members declaring their intention to change sides and vote for Heseltine in the next ballot and even members of her own cabinet openly declaring their support for Heseltine, Thatcher decided her time was up and resigned. It was the end of an era in British politics that, despite your personal disposition towards the polices enacted during her tenure, was certainly unique.

Option A: Maggie, Maggie, Maggie! Out! Out! Out!
Trigger 'Conservative Party Leadership'

Conservative Party Leadership

Date: Triggered by 'Thatcher Resignation'

Desc: With Thatcher gone, three candidates went into the final ballot. John Major was the proto-typical Conservative candidate: Bland, simple, uncomplicated and uncharismatic. His major problem was his reasonably pro-europe outlook, dangerous in a party with such a controversial divide over the subject. Michael Heseltine was a more popular figure with the public but had few friends in the higher party echelons. Major would win the 1st ballot, but with a majorty marginaly below what was required to win. Heseltine then withdrew gracefully, giving his full backing to Major.

Option A (Historical): John Major Wins.
Stab +1, -1 Merc, +5 VP (to encourage historical outcome), wake leader 'John Major' - ADM = 5/5/5

Option B: Heseltine Wins
Stab +1, +1 Merc, wake leader 'Michael Heseltine' - ADM 5/6/5

Tomorrow I'll do 1991-1997, the Major (cock-up) years. :D

Gath to rescue! :D

Some more events, off the top of my head.

The Poll Tax Riots

Date: February-April 1991

Desc: In 1987 the Tory government was re-elected with a promise to re-introduce poll tax, a taxation first levied by John of Gaunt. It had proved grossly unpopular amongst the peasantry in the 14th century and it proved equally so in the 20th. Mass demonstrations and rioting that had to be put down, culminating in the infamous 31st March 1990 protest in Trafalgar Square. Thatcher had constantly refused to get rid of the tax, but now that she was gone, what would the new Prime Minister decide?

Option A (Historical): Abolish The Poll Tax
+1 Stability, -2 Aristocracy, -2 Serfdom, -250g

Option B: Scale Down The Poll Tax Down
-1 Stability, -1 Aristocracy, -1 Serfdom, -100g, +2 Revolt Risk for 24 months

Option C: Leave The Poll Tax Intact
-3 Stability, +1 Aristocracy, +1 Serfdom, Revolt in Anglia, +6 Revolt Risk for 36 months, Repeat event in 36 months time

The 1992 General Election

Date: April 10, 1992

Desc: The Conservatives were wary entering the 1992 election, their popularity had hit a 15 year low. Labour party leader Neil Kinnock had orchestrated major changes in the structure and organisation of the party, trying to leave behind the shambolic election campaigns of 1987 and 1982. Once again, Labour was appearing as a viable alternative to a now fumbiling Conservative government. Every opinion poll had Labour taking large chunks out of their majority, with almost all putting Labour ahead. Major resorted to some queationable campaign tactics. On March the 11th, less than a month before the election, the budget was announced, revealing large tax cuts for the average wage earner. Labour accused him of 'dangerous populist tax cutting', Major shrugged it off. As results came in seat by seat, commentators were suprised at how many marginals had fallen to the Tories. In the end, depsite all evidence seemingly pointing in the other direction, the Conservative party had secure a win by a very narrow margin, just 21 seats.

Option A (Historical): Conservative Party Victory
John Major stays leader, +1 Aristocracy, -1 Mercantalism

Option B: Labour Party Victory
Wake leader Neil Kinnock - D/A/M - 5/7/4, -2 Aristocracy, +1 Mercantalism

I would add the Maastricht Treaty, but that should be a MAJOR Europe wide event, so I'll add that to the West Europe thread later.
