Very interesting AAR, as Titan79 said, its good to see a Germany AAR that doesn't just end up conquering all with little resistance.

Mr_B0narpte: I think that may have something to do with my lack of skills :p

Gen. Marshall:
That explains my manpower problem...

Sidenote:
Hello guys, this is the last chapter until after Christmas. I'm not going to be home for a few days.
So, although there is a few days to go...

01_zpsef050cfa.jpg

(Boy, I hope the german part means "Merry Christmas" :p )
A big hug from me. Hope all your wishes come true (except if it is to become dictator of the universe... nobody likes a dictator of everything :) )

Chapter 31: Soviet tanks, faster than light
1 May 1944 - 1 June 1944

The result of the current situation was unclear. Although the Germans were successful in the North, the Soviets had occupied Stanislawow and were advancing to Tarnopol. The Soviets also kept sending troops to Luninec, delaying the German advance.

ScreenSave0_zpsfdd2c81c.png

On May 5, the Soviets reached Tarnopol forcing units to be moved to Lvov. The Battle for Luninec continued.

ScreenSave1_zps83c80a39.png

ScreenSave2_zps4686006f.png

The Soviets kept trying to advance in the South, but the Hungarians fought bravely.

ScreenSave3_zps0d81c0dd.png

Within 1 week, the Soviet tanks had reached Kowel, positioning themselves behind German lines. Luckily, over 1 month ago troops had been sent from up North to reinforce, and they were able to cut the Soviets off (avoiding yet another retreating German army from being destroyed).

ScreenSave4_zps522f0b2a.png

ScreenSave5_zpsc448150d.png

The northern armies (now a legend in all of Germany) stand their ground against a Soviet army that outnumbers them 1-4.

ScreenSave6_zps9103fd4d.png

Kowel is regained and the Soviet tanks are destroyed (apparently they were reluctant to retreat.

ScreenSave7_zps76acad7b.png

Bulgarian reinforcements are sent to Ismail, and manage to hold their ground once more. Many of the units present are so weak that they are annihilated in combat. A miracle is needed if this front has to hold much longer.

ScreenSave8_zps6b757d31.png

Germans reach Lida, while troops keep advancing into Luninec.

ScreenSave9_zpse148c4e8.png

By the end of May, the Germans start an offensive to recapture Tarnopol. Unfortunately, the Soviets had already started an offensive to capture Rowne.

ScreenSave10_zps656eb6d9.png

Suddenly an unexpected miracle happens. New fresh Hungarian troops appear. They may be what helps us to keep the Soviets back in the South.

ScreenSave11_zpsf98ccdb7.png

New troops, not something you see very often now

Rowne is defeated but German finally reaches Luninec. We are confident that we will be able to regain it. Biggest challenge: Avoiding that they advance from Rowne to Kowel.

ScreenSave12_zpsbde0ac59.png

Ismail survives yet another Soviet attack. Hopefully the new troops will arrive soon.

Most experienced divisions. The German HQs are very experienced. After them, we have a lot of infantries. A motorized is also close to reaching 50

ScreenSave16_zps67af6ccb.png

All of the German fleet has been disbanded. The German Kriegsmarine now consists of a single Submarine.

ScreenSave17_zps7d16e8d5.png

Our bombers have become quite experienced by attacking the Soviets. The interceptors fighting the Allies haven't gotten much experience thanks to the high losses inflicted by the unbelievable amount of Allied planes.

Germany survives yet another month. Since the war against France, the opposition had stated that Germany was doomed. The whole campaign against the Soviets had been a giant disappointment. Many forget that Germany has prevailed through some very hard times. They have taken everything and anything the world has thrown against them. Remember that it wasn't Germany who started the war against the Soviets.

Troop transport train, Budapest to Iasi- 1 June 1944

Mr_B0narpte: I think that may have something to do with my lack of skills :p
Well, AoD is a very complex game, it took me at least a week to get a firm grip on it. Plus, to be honest, the tutorial wasn't very helpful for me. Anyway, whatever the reason, your AAR is really interesting :)

And Merry Christmas to you too :D

With Werner von Fritsch as ministers every division with Sp-Art gains +5% on offensive. Every division of you should have this brigade in order to max out your manpower efficiency. Disbanding weak units to ensure your troops have the best quality available and are fully reinforced will help. Underreinforced units will lower your performance so simple disband them. Weak units from Hungary etc. can secure the atlantic wall.

IIRC, the MP gain ratio is somewhere around 1:2 in the soviet favour, so you need to overshoot it.

Soviet daily gain should be below 1.65 per day. Marshall18 has something above 1.00.

Thanks for the advice Pang Bingxun. Good to know.
I think you are right about the manpower, because the Soviet troops are also starting to have low strength
(I'm back home now, so new chapter tomorrow) :D

Chapter 32: The fall of South Africa
1 June 1944 - 1 July 1944

ScreenSave0_zps07e3192c.png

Rommel, the Master of Battles. He has picked up quite a few tricks in the last couple of years.

In the first days of June, Germany keeps fighting for Bobraisk and Tarnopol, while the armies in Pinsk and Kowel stand still recovering, prepared to counterattack the advancing Soviet armies in Rowne.

ScreenSave1_zps6e4d175a.png

The Soviets arrive in Rowne on the 4th of June and the Germans start the counteroffensive.

ScreenSave2_zps59fb6163.png

Tarnopol manages to repel the Soviets, but are left pretty weak. Hopefully the battle for Rowne will give the troops time to recover.

ScreenSave3_zps9893e0c9.png

The offensive into Rowne proves to be successful.

ScreenSave4_zps4759fad5.png

Unfortunately, the Germans in Tarnopol are once more attacked and therefore forced to retreat.

ScreenSave5_zps579891e4.png

Rowne is lost once more.

ScreenSave11_zps2d6179f1.png

ScreenSave12_zpsc9a2c4b4.png

On the 28th of June, Italy incorporates South Africa into their long list of lands. If they manage to defeat the US army in Northern Africa, they will have control of a whole continent.

ScreenSave13_zps7c4bd96f.png

The Germans are for the first time defeated in the North. Hopefully this will not happen again.

ScreenSave14_zpsf09a93dd.png

The Soviets move a lot of armies into Beltsy and Chisinev. They Start an offensive to regain Ismail. The Axis offensive in the area is abandoned in hopes that Ismail might hold up.

ScreenSave15_zps00e099e6.png

The Soviets make their first advance in the North.

ScreenSave16_zpsc63615ae.png

The German troops react quickly and push them back.

ScreenSave17_zps41229e9e.png

Unfortunately, Ismail is defeated. Hopes of creating a pocket in Romania and encircling the Soviets are high. Otherwise there will be no stopping them in the South.

ScreenSave18_zps7806c511.png

By the 1st of July, the Germans have had a successful advance into Northern Soviet territory. Hopes of a victory have not faded yet, and with a bit of luck, we might survive the last half year of 1944.

ScreenSave19_zps8199f14b.png

The Soviets are red,
The US is blue.
The Germans are winning,
over those two.

Oh, the stalemate!

I love how you keep making *cough* historical *cough* decisions, like defending Scandinavia with a bazillion troops that are needed elsewhere. Other than that; congratulations. You're using the troops you have on the front to full effect, and results are beginning to show!

All the bad decisions I take are of course for "historical" reasons :eek:o
Wouldn't want it to be a widely unrealistic AAR :p

Chapter 33: New plan
1 July 1944 - 1 August 1944

The German advance seemed to be getting to a halt due to the decreasing organization and strength of the armies. The air support was also having some strength issues and therefore stayed in base.

The Soviets took advantage of this and advanced into Bobraisk.

ScreenSave1_zpsb7fe0979.png

This didn't stop the advance in the North. German troops advanced into Swieciany.

ScreenSave2_zps630ae9ce.png

In the South things started to change. The Germans recaptured Stanislawow and were confident about being able to hold the Soviets back in Romania.

ScreenSave3_zps5beb15e3.png

Bobraisk was captured by the Soviets and an offensive to regain it was set into motion. Unfortunately the Soviets moved a lot of men and the offensive was abandoned.

ScreenSave4_zps1fca3497.png

ScreenSave5_zpsbec7d181.png

Instead, an operation was set into motion to cut the Soviets off and avoid them from reaching further behind the lines. The army in Swieciany now had the task of protecting 2 provinces: Molodeczno and Swieciany.

ScreenSave6_zpsbb8c06e4.png

The Germans try to get the situation under control, but the Soviets advance further into 2 provinces.

ScreenSave7_zps8c738d3c.png

ScreenSave8_zpsabc2942f.png

Molodeczno will be easily regained

ScreenSave9_zps530789b6.png

The invasion of Baranowicze may become a problem

The Germans capture Minsk and start planing a way to deal with Bobraisk and Baranowicze.

ScreenSave10_zps376cad0c.png

An attempt to Encircle them and destroy the armies trapped is set into motion.

ScreenSave11_zps3a0f61c8.png

Molodeczno is regained.

ScreenSave12_zps0c8ea7e1.png

The German army also manages to hold on to Stanislawow. The liberators have returned to the city!

ScreenSave13_zpsf3484bfc.png

Iasi is kept safe, but the price is high.

ScreenSave14_zps13fc6c59.png

The Germans are successful on their encirclement operation. At first sight it looks like it might work.

ScreenSave15_zpsa9380909.png

The Soviets are smart and send more troops in.

ScreenSave16_zps094f3324.png

The Germans are defeated, but make the Soviets suffer heavy losses.

ScreenSave17_zps00ed944b.png

The Soviets keep on fighting to invade Iasi

ScreenSave18_zps73086f33.png

On the 1st of August the Army leaders meet in Wilno and draft a plan. This plan has no deadline. The plan is to advance and position the German armies behind the highlighted rivers.

ScreenSave19_zpsbfd24aad.png

If the Germans manage to arrive at their goal, the river might offer protection while they recover for a further offensive. Will the Germans ever manage to reach this goal, or will they be defeated long before that? The Japanese puppets in Mongolia are struggling and it seems like they will fall soon. If the Japanese-Soviet border falls, then thousands of fresh victorious red troops would be redeployed to our front. This could be a tiebreaker against us.

Wilno Army Meeting - 1 August 1944

Chapter 34: Encirclement
1 August 1944 - 1 September 1944

On the 2nd of August Germany started a new attempt at encircling the Soviet units in Baranowicze.

The offensive to Bobraisk seemed to go well.

ScreenSave0_zpse4651018.png

The Germans arrived at Bobraisk. As a response, the Soviets started offensives against Mozyr and Bobraisk in order to liberate the Surrounded troops.

ScreenSave1_zps69e24a05.png

On the 8th, Germany started attacking the Surrounded troops.

ScreenSave2_zpsc034ea4e.png

With this great victory, the Germans went on to try and secure the northern provinces.

ScreenSave3_zps97b0e9f4.png

Romania, still being a strongly contended region, manages to hold on time after time.

ScreenSave4_zpsab84596d.png

ScreenSave11_zps931624e2.png

The troops in Bobraisk manage to keep the Soviets away, but the troops in Mozyr are too overwhelmed to hold on to the province.

ScreenSave5_zpse4bbc1b8.png

ScreenSave6_zpsd0ea7aca.png

The Germans secure Swieciany and go on to try and capture Orsha.

ScreenSave7_zps2e0a9cc5.png

Mozyr is lost, and the German troops start reorganizing for a counteroffensive.

ScreenSave8_zps4e366280.png

Germans advance into Orsha. With the capture of this, the Northern goal will be achieved.

ScreenSave9_zps9263e2f9.png

Rommel continuously fights to repel the Soviets in Iraq. Rommel "the guardian of Suez" is still undefeated in Iraqi territory.

Also: is it possible to see/know how much manpower have you left? By the losses the German Army is taking in the course of those battles in Russia, I think you should be already almost out of it...

Chapter 35: The Return of the Blue Menace
1 September 1944 - 5 October 1944

From September on, the US started trying to land in the Atlantic Wall. They made 4 attempts within 1 month. Luckily the German garrisons and coastal fortifications kept them away every time.

ScreenSave0_zps8e38460b.png

US mostly lands with advanced units equipped with engineers. We think this may be an expeditionary force (or has the US really started producing such bad units?)

September was also a hard month in the opposite front. The German armies were weak in strength and organization, and the Soviets made a strong comeback.

Winter is knocking at the door. It is time once again to take a defensive stance. The winter is our friend. We get to stand back and recover, while the Soviets suffer great losses due to failed offensives. So let it come, I tell you! Let it come and cover us with it's white, cold layer of protection!

Inspection of the Atlantic Wall, Oslo - 5 October 1944

An epic struggle. Good luck Germany!

You have far too few interceptors, 40-100 would seem to be needed by now. You need to disband landunits at a big scale. 1 divisions at 100% strenght will fight better than 2 at 50%. In order too still mount enough divisions you may want to take military controll over Italy. If you abbandon Africa and the Iraq region, than you have additional 100 divisions at your disposal.
What do you produce at the moment? Almost everything but Interceptors would seem to consume too much manpower. You can gain manpower by disbanding unneeded brigades. AA brigades would seem to give you too little gain for their manpower. You must ensure that every divisions in combat is properly brigaded. This means no brigades for garrison, SpArt for all divisions that can have SpArt and Artillery for mountaineers. Unbrigaded divisions or divisions with "lesser" brigades such as engineer or AC will fight poorly.
How does the logistics map look like? If you rethreat into regions with high ESE your troops will fight better, much better.

Sidenote: Happy new year to all of you! Hope all your wishes come true :)
There might not come any new chapters on the first week of the new year. I need to study for a bunch of exams. Will be back after that.

Chapter 36: Soviet Annexation of Mengkukuo and Tannu Tuva
5 October 1944 - 1 December 1944

As the front started freezing, the Germans started digging in. The mission for the next couple of months was to keep the front line safe and cause the Soviets a lot of loses.

As soon as the Germans stopped, the Soviets started wave after wave of attacks.

ScreenSave0_zps754b5dd9.png

In some places the Germans retreated to avoid big losses and counterattacked after the weakened Soviets had advanced.

ScreenSave1_zpsb1f66547.png

On October 10, 1944 the Soviets annexed Mengkukuo. It is clear that Manchukuos days are also numbered.

ScreenSave2_zpse1947af6.png

A lot of the attacks are directed at Iasi. If the Soviets continue like this for the rest of the winter, we might be lucky enough to kill every Soviet soldier during their offensives.

ScreenSave3_zpsb05d9cff.png

ScreenSave10_zps207d5179.png

On October 21, the US invaded Gran Canaria and moved into the rest of the Canary Islands.

ScreenSave11_zpsd1d58b81.png

The Soviets even fail in the middle of the front.

ScreenSave13_zps64c672ff.png

On the 17th of November, the Soviet Union annexed the Nation of Tannu Tuva. Not really a game changer!

ScreenSave15_zpsa6f8380b.png

By the 1st of December hopes were once again high. Good news filled the papers. The Italians were close to kicking the US out of Africa, the Soviets were suffering high loses, the German front had been held and most of the German armies are recovering strength at an unexpected pace. Apparently a few months of defensive warfare had been a good idea.

ScreenSave18_zps02719fc8.png

The German territories in Africa have been given to Italy.

Although the German armies are in their best form in many months, there are still many challenges to get through. The German Luftwaffe is low on strength and if it wasn't for our large amount of AA guns on the coastline, we would be bombed to the ground. The Hungarian Army has recovered quite a bit, but the Bulgarian army is really under-strengthed. Mr. H. is impatient for the theoretical breakthrough required to produce the apocalyptic weapon of death.

Inspection of the Atlantic Wall, Amsterdam - 1 December 1944

Pang Bingxun: Right now I'm not producing anything. Everything goes to Reinforcements, Repair Provinces, Upgrades, Money and Supplies. I'll include the supply map next time (plus all the important info I show each new year :) )

EDIT: BTW, none of my armies are that low on strength, most of them are at 80-90%. The Luftwaffe has strength problems. Good idea about the brigade disbanding.
