Hmmm. The Brits don't really care who is President. Soon they will return to the Imperial Fold. With taxes backdated to 1776 of course.

...which comes to $42 dollars...since we stopped drinking tea!

Can I just say I haven't had this much fun since Nov 5 as I watched the votes roll in and my individual state bets all get up... oh, and that Obama guy won too! ;)

Vote Hull/Barkely! Strength in Victory!

This time in the glorious state of California, where the State's Rights Party and GOP will split the "establishment" vote, allowing Hull to sail to victory with 40% of the vote (the same amount Upton Sinclair, once a Socialist and then a Democrat got in 1934)...

I'll take a break from American electioneering to comment on the last update.

So the recovery is progressing well and there's more available for the Armed Forces? Cue squealing as all the snouts try and fit in the trough at once. The last line was a little ominous - I wonder what big silly idea the military bureaucrats will come up with to waste their resources on.

I also wonder exactly what's paying for all this government spending. Spain is nice, but unless HMG can find a bunch of new countries to "help", eventually the bills will have to be paid. Still, if the balloon goes up, probably better to have the guns and the debts than neither.

Oh, and throw in a Republican vote from Kansas. It's traditional.

Hull/Barkley in the swing state of Missouri.

I'm waiting for Churchill to try and build all sorts of weird aircraft; such as an all wing heavy bomber, a plane that can take off without a runway, or maybe even a plane that doesn't need propellers!

Nah, those ideas are just plain silly! :D

Arilou - Votes noted.

daemonofdecay - The drinkers vote is out in force. Clearly a key campaign issue.

Faeelin - And I thought I was special, turns out your always like that. *sob*

Pwn*Star - It's a valiant rear-guard action but I fear you may need to recruit a few more allies as it's not going too well for your man.

Hawkeye1489 - It was the press conference where the prosecutor said he couldn't be sure if Illinois was the most corrupt state but it was definitely 'well up there' that made me smile.

Lord Strange - Taxes and compensation for psychological trauma caused by tea loss.
ja.gif

TheExecuter - So no taxes but instead fines for gross dereliction of tea duty.

Duritz - Do I detect a change in tune? ;) But it is a neck and neck race as the opinion poll will reveal

GeneralHannibal - Not at the moment it wont. On total votes so far California is looking very solid Republican. Still perhaps your vote will spark the return of the fightback to the fightback!

Anazagar - If the Republicans win they'll have to credit the drinkers vote.

merrick - Woo! A comment on the writing.

As I see it the bills get paid by Spain and various other sales (RAF biplanes, old destroyers, etc) in the short term and the economic recovery in the medium term. From my, probably over-simplified, view point the arms purchases (both by HMG and various foreign govts.) will tide the economy over till the economy sorts itself out mid-'37 on the back of increased consumer spending, all those arms workers buying stuff from shops that sort of thing.

The recovery was historically starting '34 (ish?) so I'd say, after this series of shots in the arm, it's got to be progressing faster and the economy mostly OK by mid '37. At that point I'll further drop the peace time IC modifier (still on -25% so take it to -10% or so) and see what the world looks like.

Sir Humphrey - Well Hood did a good job in the anti-cruiser role in the Med and Japan does have a lot of cruisers.... And we have established the British military is going to pursue a few 'sub-optimal' options so it's on the cards. ;)

Duritz - Nothing is too silly for Churchill's Ministry of Air, thinking so far outside the box they don't even know what a box is!

Latest Opinion Poll

Hull-Barkley (Democrats) - 45% (+1%)
Landon-Vandenberg (Republican) - 46% (N/C)
Garner-White (State's Rights) - 9% (-1%)

The race has, if possible, got even tighter, as the two main parties surge out in front. Meanwhile Garner has dropped below the important 10% barrier and appears to be heading for obscurity, should his vote fall low enough it will become a self fulfilling prophecy; voters not wishing to 'waste a vote' on a low polling candidate, causing his poll rating to fall even lower.

There has been a great deal of tit for tat campaigning, the candidates chasing each other around the country and so running level in many key states. While many states are still to tight to call, those that are clear make surprising reading, for instance the Garner-White ticket is losing in both candidates home states with Texas and Ohio tending Republican. For the Democrats the good news is that the key state of New York appears to be tending for them, though one should not discount the organising ability of Garner's Tammany Hall allies in mobilising large blocks of voters come November.

Gardner again.

I wonder if the government will make sure the Bristol Brabazon will be a success? Now that would be something.

Failing that, something out of solid gold perhaps? ;)

No. More Hoods with proper protection! The Bismarck will crap her pants when she is faced by five instead of only one Hood-Class! *whistles Rule Britannia and the theme from Sink the Bismarck*

I have suspicion that Garner might end up cheat... err... Creatively campaigning himself into a victory in New York, and then use those electoral votes to bid for some kind of position in the next administration...

@El Pip: Yeah, the conference with Pat Fitzgerald was great, gotta love the line about Chicago politics. Don't know much about Louisiana or New Jersey, but I thought for sure Illinois was the worst lol. And speaking of the state by state, do you have the Electoral College Map?

If my memories serve me correctly, the Hood blew up after getting shelled by the Bismarck and only three or so men survived. Yes, I want ships that can get blown up easily in the British Navy. ;)
