Been watching this for a while. Your next task is to take the Italian states and crown Napoleon in Rome on Christmas Day!

Well, Sicily, Italy, the Pope; it's all French controlled, so I suppose he is the King of Italy. I'm glad you're enjoying it so far.

1809 January - April

knpqnnd.jpg

In early spring, France crosses the Prussian border and a state of war is declared on Prussia. Saxony was, by default, in the war, being for all intents and purposes a Prussian state.

hg19Gio.jpg

The first encounter was at Halberstadt, where the Prussians took heavy losses, and the French began to advance into the Saxon provinces.

udE91Ho.jpg

The Battle of Wittenberge was next, and it was a more resounding victory for the French than Halberstadt. The French were sieging and rushing to occupy Eastern Prussia. All the while, a small force is roaming the Dutch countryside capturing the Prussian enclaves within French territory.

wSpTYdt.jpg

The battle of Berlin is an incredible victory, with 20 Prussians dead for every Frenchman.

n9cL7K0.jpg

The same day, the Battle of Stendal came to a close as Gerbhard Leberecht retreated into the German interior. The battle was a 6-day bloodbath in which 70k people died. The French commander Jean Soult had won, but at a very high cost.

uTnmjri.jpg

The Battle of Dessau was the final battle of the opening offensive, and the French forces pushed the Germans back, and continued to march for the East.

WNvVhIO.jpg

In late April, the British send an envoy to the French government; The British have entered a military alliance with the Prussians, and have entered the war.

sFagsZ2.jpg

In the final few days of April, there is an attempted assassination; a young German student by the name of Freidrich Staps attempted to stab Napoleon while he was administrating the military in Shoenbrunn. The boy was foiled by Napoleon's aide, and admitted that he had intent to liberate his country from the French Empire. Staps was offered clemency on the condition of an apology, but Staps denied, and refused to concede guilt to Napoleon. He was killed by guillotine unceremoniously, and Napoleon went about his life a little bit more carefully than before.

The war in Prussia and Saxony looks to be proceeding very well, it is only a matter of time until we see a Kingdom of Westphalia. Great Britain's entry is not ideal though, how many soldiers do they have in the British Isles? Your divided territory may be hard to defend if you cannot boost those numbers.

Yeah, I've got about 60k, it's a temporary situation. I'll probably reinforce later, when I can afford to turn my focus a bit.

1809 May - August

cwLHzAD.jpg

In May 1809, Napoleon updated the standards of the equipment given to his fighting troops, and he ensured that all troops at the very least got proper outfits and boots. Better quality boots meant less stress on marching soldiers, and the soldiers could march faster, beating their enemies in the footrace that is Revolutionary War.

MDmeU6L.jpg

The French are sorely unprepared for a British campaign, all but two armies of 30k have been evacuated from the Isles to focus on Prussia. The French commander in Glasgow foolishly attacked Edinburgh, where British reinforcements met them, and with Napoleon focused on the Prussian front, it was a massacre. Only a scant third of the men were left alive, and the British were poised to reclaim the French war prizes.

When Napoleon heard of this, he realized that he was stuck between a rock and a hard place; he had not advanced into Prussia far enough to strike a fitting peace deal, but he could not risk the Brits reclaiming French Britain. He decided that the only sensible path of action was to concede the day to the Prussians, and return another day.

U0jcVGU.jpg

But he would not leave empty handed, and he demanded Prussia annul its treaties with Baviaria and Hessen, leaving the two states with no protection. He also dug his hands deep into the Prussian treasury, and emptied it into his own.

P9GV8Wn.jpg

The French declared war on Hessen shortly thereafter, and defeated the Hessian forces in Arnsberg.

KSEZVTt.jpg

3grKbcr.jpg

The war is almost complete, only 3 days later. The French engage the enemy at Kassel, outnumbering 10:1, and immediately end the war.

ERadXT1.jpg

Using his prize money from the wars, and taxes, Napoleon decided to build a fort in both Kassel and Nassau to build defenses in the area, which were sorely lacking.

8o92yKN.jpg

The French attacked Bavaria next, hoping to annex the country and end the German minors once and for all.

1VrN4aw.jpg

The French lunge into Amberg, and kill 32k Bavarians. A good beginning to the war, the Bavarians would not last any longer than the Badenians or the Hessians; they would fall in weeks.

M2kdeYw.jpg

On the 18th of August, Napoleon receives a visit from the Egyptian ambassador. Eventually a translator is found, and the man informs France that Egypt has honoured its military pact with Bavaria, and would be taking military actions against France.

Solid victory over Bavaria, doesn't look like they will be able to resist the advance of France. However, you won't be able to annex them in one war - they are larger than the other German minors and so you can only reduce them to Munich first time around.

Egypt are an interesting development, a new truce with the UK means that the Royal Navy will not trouble you, time to send Napoleon to the Pyramids!

However, you might be able to turn Bavaria into a satellite of the Empire; it's not quite a return to the Carolingian empire, but it seals them in your orbit at least.

Egypt... apparently the Sultan has lost his mind.

time to take alexandria :)

Yeah, I found out the annexation bit after the fact. Next stop, Alexandria.

1809 September - December

André Masséna attacked the Bavarians in München, and the Bavarians were almost defeated finally. But it seemed this war would last longer than anticipated.

S25S23b.jpg

Denmark also joined the war, determined to reclaim Hamburg for herself, although considering the fact that Sweden was in the way, Napoleon counted on Frederick not being quite smart enough to have mastered aquatic infantry transport yet.

1wouYLL.jpg

But Napoleon had interests in Africa, and although Egypt was distant, it was also rich. Alexandrie in particular would give a powerful foothold in the Mediterranean, and could solidify French naval dominance in Europe. The French forces sieged the town, losing 10k men in the process, but the valuable port was more than worth the bloodshed.

ZHN2Tci.jpg

NOVEMBER, 1809 - FRENCH DOMINANCE OVER EUROPE IS CEMENTED WITH THE ACQUISITION OF THE STRATEGIC PORT OF ALEXANDRIA

cdSrVSH.jpg

Napoleon had a feeling of contentment; he was the most powerful man in Europe for centuries, and felt that any further conquests would be superfluous. Then he fell down the stairs, and remembered one important fact he forgot to consider: F*** BRITAIN. So it was understood that Napoleon had plenty of work to do, and the Napoleonic wars continued.

q63Axoi.jpg

The French were attacked by the entrenched garrison at Wesel; the standing army in Wesel was trapped, and forced to retreat into the fortress. Forced to support almost 6k men, the men were starving quickly, and drastic measures were necessary. The defenders led a sally into the attacking siege camps, which was a total and complete failure, and every single man was slain. On the bright side, there was no worry of starvation now

pJXuGoV.jpg
.

The uncommanded French hordes were making progress in Egypt, and the Egyptians were Defeated at Damietta, if only barely.

MNtCpfT.jpg

Henri Delaborde won the Battle of Abukir, cleaning up Egypt slowly but surely.

TIpCzK6.jpg

The siege of Wesel ended unceremoniously after 64 long days, when the attackers remembered they killed all the defenders.

DcK2usg.jpg

Cairo was sieged in early December, and the Egyptians broke. Their morale was abysmal, rather it would be if a single able-bodied Egyptian was left alive. The French were marching into Sinai to try and ensure the best peace possible. The last Egyptian stragglers were killed in Suez on Christmas morning, and the soldiers stopped afterwards for a nice spiced ham, sautéed in liberty.

With the war in Egypt wrapping up, Napoleon negotiated a suitable peace for Egypt; they would become an autonomous collective within the Empire.

06jhrpR.jpg

The Egyptian war was over, and the armies could return to the European wars.

wbrKAyq.jpg

With Alexandria seized, the Bavarians were dealt with, and were relegated to the greater Münich area. All other territory was incorporated into French collectives.

Ql2USEl.jpg

The English saw this as a proper time to end their slave trade officially; the British attempted to get a moral high ground upon which to criticize the French. It would be another rallying point against the French. This, of course, would only serve as a French justification to enslave the British to build French roads.

The French began a two-front attack, and seized the city of Whitehaven, an important British trade port.

xpqwDRd.jpg

Shortly thereafter, the Bavarians were annexed by the Austrians while the French were distracted.

jNkbyy1.jpg

To add insult to injury, the Austrians joined with the British to strike at the underbelly of France while they were away.

RYRcFnm.jpg

A scouting mission with the main navy went wrong when the British navy caught them at Flamborough Head. The British were outnumbered 2:1, but their commanders were more competent and well-equipped. The French navy was overcrowded and chaotic. Only one empty tansport was lost, but the loss was shocking. The British had actually beaten the French, and this realization awakened the military zeal of the British.

hKZnAVl.jpg

Napoleon met with the Tsar Alesandr to discuss the matters of war and peace in Europe. The two Emperors met at Tilsit, and Alesandr was incredibly impressed by Napoleon's wit and charm. Napoleon offered the Tsar an offer. The two would split Europe between France and Russia, and become Emperors of East and West. In Alesandr's impressionable mind, notions of the Great Russia and France alight in his mind. "What is Europe?" he asked to Napoleon. "Where is it, if it is not you and we?"

Ml1oj8F.jpg

The British engaged the French again at Yarmouth, and the French narrowly defeated the British, leaving 20k Redcoats to retreat.

4rXBk1r.jpg

The Austrians lunged at the French at Karlsbad, but the French were more prepared than expected, and the French repelled their assaults.

xh3QY5e.jpg

The French began occupying the Alps, and defeated the Austrian Johann von Klemz at Cham, and the Austrians retreated.

Mc1i57T.jpg

The British lost again at Norwich, a small skirmish that lost a few thousand men for each

Wv3qBJd.jpg

Prussia also asked for a slice of the French cake, and joined the British war effort.

OByAt3T.jpg

In December, the Austrian front began disintegrating, and the French were ready to negotiate a peace with England.

OHtGfNG.jpg

The French lost their first large battle at Lincoln, with the disastrous siege of Lincoln. with these two events combined, the French me the British to talk.

CmC8MNW.jpg

In the end, the British backstabbed the Austrians. The British signed off of a treaty that would force Austria to cede the land around the Alps, creating a solid border from Italy to Saxony.

That is a good victory, seemed like the AI did a good job of assembling an alliance to face you. How are your relations with Spain? Apart from the loss of Munich, hasn't really been wounded too much by the defeat, so there are still a good many battles to be won. It's a shame you couldn't grab those Prussian enclaves in the Rhineland, there is always the next war I suppose!

Yeah, the balance of power is pretty good in this game, even when France gets big. The AI is quick to band against anyone getting too big. Spain is cordial, though I can't form a coalition because I'm the dominant country. I'm not too worried about the Prussian enclaves, Prussia wasn't the target this time.

January 21: Austria invades Russia in the winter. Luckily, Austria made this mistake, demonstrating to all that General Winter was not to be underestimated.

h0LQGlu.jpg

The following week, George III was declared insane. The man had underlying mental problems, and overlain with the devastating defeats by France, and the weakening of the British Empire, the king was declared mad. The insanity was discovered when George ran out of his bedroom, chasing after a man-sized gopher. The man ran into a maid, screaming gibberish and tackled her to the ground, demanding she reveal the location of the gopher man.

The Gribeauval system was enacted in April, named after the Lieutenant General Jean Baptiste Vaquette de Gribeauval. It was a military ballistics system, revolutionizing the French army's use of the cannon. It allowed a more advanced production proccess that created lighter and better cannons without sacrificing the firing distance.

QzKIA7m.jpg

Shortly thereafter, Russia finalized a peace treaty with the Ottoman Empire, and the Russians seized territories in the Caucasus and around Romania, and created Russian trade enclaves in Syria, and Palestine.

1812 January - April

MWEwJjY.jpg

The remainder of 1811 passed without incident. In March of 1812, the the Ottoman Empire explodes with conflict as the Janissaries rise against the Sultan Selin III. The Janissaries installed his cousin Mustafa on the throne as Mustafa IV. Mustafa Bayrakdar, a strong supporter of Selim III collected a 40k strong army, marching on Istanbul to reinstall Selim. Alas, he was too slow. The Sultan had been assassinated by the Chief Black Eunuch and his men. The sultan's final words were 'Allahu Akbar' - 'God is great".

ldscY3z.jpg

The revolt against Selim was caused because he "introduced among the Moslems the manners of infidels and showed an intention to supress the Janissaries". The Sultan fled to his palace immediately, and swore fealty to Mustafa. He attempted to poison himself, which MUstafa prevented. The new Sultan rules tentatively, as the Janissaries loot Istanbul and murder apparent Selim supporters.

The Ottoman Empire, the Sick Man of Europe, had coughed up its first lung. Things were not looking good for the Empire, and the instability would remain; the Empire would never fully recover from the revolt.

tDfu4Rm.jpg

Amidst all of the madness in the Ottoman Empire, Napoleon is focused elsewhere. Prussia was looking particularly weak, with less than a quarter of the numebr of troops Napoleon boasts.

65by2ug.jpg

In May, Mahmud II, half-brother of Mustafa VI, escapes from prison. Selim III, imprisoned with Mahmud was murdered, and following the commotion, Mahmud slipped out of a window as a slave girl blinded the assassin. Mahmud climbed onto the roof, where he was seen, and aided by Turkish pages. Alemdar Mustafa Pasha, a loyalist to Selim III declared Mahmud the righteous Sultan when he knew Selim had died. The slave girl was awarded for bravery and loyalty.
