At least the Franks are beating back the Viking invaders, but they're still very vulnerable. The death of Marell putting a six-year old girl on the East Frankish throne has them at quite the risk.

The Frankish unity is heartening to see. I wonder if anything will emerge from it? The Norse invasion isn't the only threat to the Christians in that area...

It appears as if the Umayyads haven't given up the idea of avenging Tours and conquering Western Europe, after all.

Austrasia appears to be ambitious, which could haunt them later...

Byzantium might be returning to stability a bit - and the Varangians will be a large part of that.

The Umayyads gained a new color thanks to Mahmud the Handsome making the Kingdom of Asturias his primary title.

And yeah, the Frankish-Norse war is over. The Vikings lost and retreated back to Scandinavia.

The Umayyads are defeating the Franks for now.

Also, with the low approval of all of these Abbasid rulers, why aren't there more rebellions?

This entire world is lucky that Berber Emira Cantara the Whisperer, the fourth wife of Abbasid Caliph Idris the Oppressor, did not have any claims on the Umayyad Sultanate. Imagine if that was the case...

Also, it seems Mahmud the Handsome did not knew that the caliph was busy with a Shia rebellion in 814.

That Shi'a revolt could be quite dangerous to the Abbasids.

Byzantines are holding out, largely thanks to the Varangian Guard.

Whilst not great powers, Denmark and Sweden (Svitjod) are starting to take control of most of the Scandinavian peninsula.

The Shia rebellion has weakened the Abbasids. Does this mark the beginning of a divided Near East?

The Umayads and the Abbasids almost went to war, but peace remains... for now. I don't suspect that this peace will last.

There is still instability in the Umayyad Caliphate... that might last a while.

Byzantium has resorted to intrigue to deal with their foreign enemies. Do the Khazar general know about his many near misses with death?

Most likely he does. There were two ambushes into his camps and both were defeated.
