I did not forsee my actions to protect the sovereignty of our nation to lead to such bloodshed. No matter, this trespass and insult to Chilean Honor must be repaid! I vote Yes for war with Brazil, and will swiftly move my men to secure La Plaz from the traitorous Brazilians. I also vote Yes for the creation of the Army Chief of Staff, and nominate myself for said position once the war with the Brazilians is over.

War with Brazil: No.. our manpower must recover. People left the fields during the civil and bolivian wars and they must feed our people. We wouldn't want an economic crash now.
Chief of Staff: Yes

Let us remain cautious in this event; I propose a delegation with all three of our governments to determine the place of this debacle. Only then will I support a move in either direction outright. We do not want to be foolish in our haste... nor impotent in our actions...

Señor Presidente, as leader of the army of the north, I am confident in our military abilities to outmaneuver the Brazilians. We are indeed unrivalled militarily in the South Cone, and I am proud to be saying this.

However, I believe this sudden purchase of guns and supplies will hamper our economy that is once again booming and needs atleast a decade to recover from the Imperial wastes.

"Imperialist war is bourgeois war! The interests of the working-class are not served by the imperial ambitions of the bourgeois state. The working-class has no nation, the working-class is international in it's very nature. War serves only to enrich the few and maim the many. All workers should stand in fierce opposition to imperialist war, now and always. Workers of the world, unite in opposition to the wealthy few who would have you kill each other in the name of their personal financial gain!"
- Ferran Jaume Prieto i Martí

Mr. Ferran Prieto, even though I disagree with your socialist ideals I believe you may be right in some aspects:

This war serves not the real interest of the Chilean people. We have fought to free our people and our market, and now we are risking everything we've achieved. We'd have to buy thousands of rifles, canned food, supplies, gunpowder and waste hundreds of chilean pesos in this enterprise with little in the way of reward and too much at risk. This war as you call it would not even enrich anyone, not even your "elite" or whatever you call it, since it's a lose-or-gain-dirt scenario. The attrition would kill many, and the war would be a stalemate, since we'd have to take our stand at the Andes and then advance into the Brazilian Andes and Brazilian Amazonas!

As a businessman I believe this is a very bad business. We are risking too much for too little. We are risking economic decline, our Great Power status and even a revolution by the socialists who disagree openly with the actual government. The LA PAZ area is poor and arid, and this shootout was surely an accident. I do not wish to insult the Bolivian people who are loyal and lost their lives for this cause and this country, but I really believe we can't risk the lives of thousands for some mountains.

War with Brazil: NO. Even if we, for a moment, forget how our own military is going through extensive reform, this war would be fought recklessly over land we don't need, and against an enemy who's powerful enough to become a sore in the derriere.
Army Chief of Staff: YES I welcome any attempts at descentralization!

- Lorenzo Subercaseaux

((Ok, so Komisha's current character is the son of the imperialista Commander, right? Why is he even imprisoned? If I don't get a good reason, I'll just pardon him...))

((He is the son of the late Admiral, yes.

All Imperialistas were imprisoned and only the senior members have been either pardoned or executed to my knowledge. Oscar is languishing in legal limbo as the revolutionaries captured him as a 'militant loyalist' and never actually charged him with a crime. His is a fine example of Republicano callousness... ;D ))

Though I did not take part in the latest civil war, I would rather die than be set free without a general amnesty for all who supported the Emperor to his death but have been condemned as criminals for their loyalty.

War with Brazil: NO
Army Chief of Staff: YES

A war with Brazil will prove to the world that we are the dominant power in South America. But we must think of our soldiers and their families - already we have too many widows in our country who need our support. We need to arrange Pensions for our brave soldiers and their families.

No to war

- Colonel Martin Schmidt

War with Brazil: No
Army Chief of Staff Act: Yes

AS Minister for the Interior and someone who has constantly said no to war at the cost of Economic expansion I say NO yo war. I do see merits in the idea of an Army Chiref of Staff and say yes to this.

Carlos Andonie

Senor Vallenare, you ask too much! Some of those men are quite dangerous, and I doubt I could even muster enough support to free all of them; however, I can and will, should you still desire it, grant you a pardon, and pardon some other men who were wrongly imprisoned.

Loyalty to that Empire was and still should be treason.

War with Brazil: I approve a war with Brazil on the condition that La Paz is returned to its rightful owner Bolivia and not annexed to Chile.
Army Chief of Staff: I approve. It would serve to severely lessen the risk of coups, especially with the current size of the Chilean army.
