CK2 Dev Diary#24: The 2.6.2 patch

Hello and welcome back to another CK2 Development Diary. The 2.6.2 update looms rather near now, and if everything goes to plan it should be released on Thursday (hopefully we will have an open beta on Friday). I’ll start out with the bad news; due to some unforeseen problems one of the game rules I mentioned last week will not be included with this patch: The Multiplayer Assassination rule. However, we do have two other game rules for you which you may find interesting:

  1. De jure Requirement: Default/Required. On default, nothing changes, but with “Required” characters who hold titles which have de jure land will eventually lose the title if they don’t hold any of the de jure land.
  2. Horse Lords:Nomad Stability: Unstable/Stable. Now when a Khagan dies, his vassals have the possibility to break away and form their own realms -with the new Khagan getting a CB on them. Setting “Stable” keeps the old behaviour.

There was some outcry last week because Jews and Zoroastrians didn’t also get a crusader style trait, so I’ve managed to sneak both in with the Shaddai and Gond-i Shahanshah traits. While we were in a trait-adding mood, both Cannibal and Lover’s Pox were changed from character modifiers to traits (although we have left the old modifier checks in place so ongoing games aren’t broken).

The Gender Equality gamerule and laws revealed a few problems with Muslim events always assuming Muslim rulers would be male, so we’re spend a bit of time adding the appropriate checks which should result in a more flavourful Muslim experience.

As well as this, there are plenty of small fixes and additions to many other things, but I’ll let you explore the game and/or the patchnotes to discover them for yourselves.

Nice!
But something has to be done with the limited space for traits. It has become rather hard to even see what traits you have.

The whole DD schedule is changing. Stellaris will be on Thursday AFAIK.

Too bad it's unfixable forever.

The problem, Mr Sarcastic, is that I had not heard of or considered it until now and it's too late for 2.6.2.

Game rules, which one is not included with the new patch?

Not sure if you are making a joke, but I quoted the line for you there. MP assassination rule.

Does this mean DDs are going to be on the day of their respective streams and, coincidentally, in alphabetical order?

Like this:
Monday: CKII
Tuesday: EUIV
Wednesday: HOI4
Thursday: Stellaris
Friday: Victoria 3

These look amazing. I know what my personal defaults will be from now on. :D (Speaking of which, any word on being able to save a ruleset as your default, so you don't need to readjust everything every time you want to start a new game?)

Do Jews and Muslims still violate their dietary laws when they've closed the gates due to disease? (Eating pig meat is forbidden, and the event that starts the rationing event chain mentions eating boar heads.)

Will the AI still cite wanting a matrilineal marriage as a reason for denying marriage and betrothal requests?

Not in 2.6.2, but it's something we'd like to add.

'fraid so. In retrospect I should have picked another animal :(

Should not.

Please can you explain further?
If I'm king of England but I've no demesme in England , I can lose the title ?
Or it will happen if I've no vassal in England (supposing that nobody can usurp the title) ?

Your realm just needs to control some of de jure england, you don't need to have demesne there.

E: It's a chance on death. Title is destroyed. You get a strong claim on the area.

Why the change to Mondays?

We do CK2 streaming on Mondays and it's been decided to do DDs on the same day.

Quick Question: Has the last screenshot been modified? The date says 867, but the character's age is 1798, which would mean he would have been born almost a thousand years before CK2 timeline. I thought it wasn't possibly to go below zero.

No modifications.

So, update: We've found an annoying crash and it may not be fixed by tomorrow. If we can't fix it in time we'll release 2.6.2 as an opt-in beta patch so those who like to live dangerously can use it until we fix it.

@Darkrenown
Any hope for an "Education System" Conclave/Classic rule?

I'm not against the idea, but not in this patch.

Name, that you use now is one of G-d's names, and we, Jews, are very careful in using these names outside praying. So, if instead of "Shad-dai" you will use "Halutz" or "Kanai" we will be able to play without danger of saying G-d's name without reason. And it will be more flavour, too

Confirming it was changed it to Kanai.

Have you made any changed to landed_titles.txt?

How is it then possible to get an almost 2000 years old character in 867?
In the past the engine couldn't handle characters born pre 0 AD. Hence why Augustus is set to have been born in 3 AD in the title history of the ERE.

I don't think landed titles has changed.

Event created characters can be any age. I'll be honest though, his DoB looks stupid. Still, it's worth it to me to have a super old guy turn up to stab you.

For many versions it has been possible. If a character is created by event rather than by the history files, said character could have a negative date of birth. I wrote one that added Augustus via event making him the approximate correct age. (The age does seem to drift a little here and there when negative, however.)

Yup.

Cheers for the DD Darkrenown :). Yet again, you have failed to provide a smaller, less substantial DD despite your promise last week (patchnotes are pretty extensive imo, with some good stuff in there) :p. I like these two things in particular (ie, rule changes, and revenge of the killer platypuses) :).

I'm sorry, I'll definitely try to do worse in future! :)

Which is default setting? Unstable or Stable?
If stable isn't default setting, would it disable achievements?

Unstable, no chevo disabling with either of the rules I mentioned.

Regaring the current patch:
It would also be great if we could get a statement for why we suddenly can't war (at least with the de-jure CB)
one-county vassals of the same liege anymore (example: Duke of Champagne in 1066 and count of Sens) and a confirmation that it's not a bug.
What's the idea behind this ?

I asked Doomdark about it. He changed this during Reaper's in order to prevent vassals from taking other vassals from their liege. So you cannot use the De Jure claim CB for the last title of any other vassal within the same realm.

There are always exceptions, that one is kind of odd though since bus comes from omnibus (It can go anywhere) and the plural form of that is omnibi.
It's also why I used the word custom because there are no official rules about english
English is the anarchist of languages. It takes what it wants from other languages and obeys no one's rules. Not even its own.

With the addition of the games greatly improved performance and all of these lovely quality of life features, is there any chance that my suggestion from last year might be a reality now? It's pitched both here and in Reddit. The response over there was massive with about 760 people liking it, a huge amount of the player base.

I'll link the forum suggestion on here though:

https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/notable-kills-list-idea-with-pictures.874045/

I think it'd be a great little addition. Just to be able to track who we and other people kill in combat or through intrigue. And now since you guys are taking suggesting and adding features. I thought it would be a perfect time to suggest it again.

It's including a comma at the end of a list. E.g. fish, eggs, and cake. As opposed to fish, eggs and cake.
Or, to give an example which shows how crucial it might be:

On our trip to Washington DC we met two strippers, JFK, and Nixon.

vs

^This. Any character I have that lives for a while eventually ends up with me having trouble seeing traits and now with all the new diseases being common it only means it happens that much faster.
