Minutemen if you are going for an actual civil war down the line (or really close to it). Congress if you are going for potential fifth column or insurgency not quite to the level of a full-on civil war (unless, of course, the insurgents manage to do some real damage).
I'll be going with the Minute Men then! Also I plan on playing this with no cheats or reloads and on normal so I'm frankly not sure how long this AAR will last as I'm not a great leader. About the screenshots, I'll be trying again to get some because I'm now fighting and it will be great to have but don't hold your breath. Another thing, I want the AUS propaganda poster as sort of a cover thing on my first post, I'm not sure where to look for it, though would it be in the folders somewhere or would I have to get it from somewhere else? EDIT: A good one in the folders I mean, as I'm not sure if they compress them or if it's two small or wouldn't go on photobucket.
I've already got a serious insurgency in the North West, the problem is I don't have any troops to put them down. (That and I forget to mention it in an eariler chapter, I think I'll have to edit an old chapter now)
Long and the Trade Unions

So it is with heavy heart that I do order the Minute Men, who have protected our freedoms before and will do so again, to break the treasonable Combined Syndicates of America and maintain one nation under God forever."
After this momentous radio broadcast the entire nation seemed to hold it's breath waiting, for who would make the next move...
and then strangley nothing seemed to happen. Rioting in the urban centres was kept under control by local police and anti union militias and mobs. U.S. troops smashed NSF forces in a set piece battle near Blue Mountain forcing the rebels to retreat north while rogue militias rampaged through the Mid-West.
Long decided to capitilise on the lack of effective resistance to carry out his economic reforms, blithly confident that the worst had already come, Long sought to implement a tarriff on imported goods especially grains to support the American farmers. These protectionist measures did not however go over well in Amererca's chief trading partner Canada. However only days after earning the farmers goodwill, he lost it through the implementation of price controls especially on cereal.
The aircraft industy in California was one of the biggest and most profitible industries in the entire United States. Long was looking to use some of the prosperity to fund his economic reforms along the East Coast. Taxing this profitible industry would not be a popular move. Kenneth Althaus the Secretary of Defense warned that if the Californians stood firm there was nothing the army could do. Long brushed aside such reports.
A revolt begun by striking West Virginia coal miners, spread like wildfire throughout the state. Stilwell was sent to deal with this crisis as he had dealt with the last one. However this meant pulling out the soldiers supposed to be protecting Washinton D.C....

The End of the Begining
With the Minute Men being deployed all over America the anarchists took the opportunity to attack Washington D.C. Several government buildings were damaged and fires have been set throughout the city. Long immediatley declared martial law over the entire country. Chief of Staff Parker Sage, ordered up all reservists remaining in reserve and advised for the drafting of another quarter of a million men over the next few months. Dr. Hiram W. Evans, reported to the President that the Mexicans were building up their forces along America's now undefended southern border and the arms smuggling was increasing dramatically.
The Governor of California under pressure from various business interests declared that California would not accept these new taxes and mobilized the National Gaurd. Long was furious and wanted to crush "the upstart" but Sage informed him in no uncertain terms that the troops to deal with this tax revolt simply did not exist. Long eventually decided upon an embargo ordering the neighbouring governors to mobilise their gaurds to stop any traffic between their states and the "Rogue State" and sent the Navy to blocade their ports to halt the profitible transoceanic trade that was the primary reason for the prosperity which gave the Californians the confidence to attempt what they were about to do.
The chaos and anarchy in the east is too much for the people of California. The governor has declared a state of emergency and declared the independance of the Californian Republic.
Only hours later the temporary lull in the major cities ended with a popular uprising spearheaded by the CSA siezed control of many of the largest cities such as Chicago and Detroit. Reed declared "The time for talk is over, the workers state is here!"

The thing about Washington wasn't planned by the way. I just sent my men to put down the West Virginia revolt and then anarchists attack my capital! The nerve.
Ah, so the famous civil war begins at last. Show those traitors the true strength of America!
Shattered Union
Quickly following California's lead the states of Oregon and Washington seceded quickly aligning with California to found the Pacific States of America. Although they had serious difficulties from the first, because nearly have of Oregon was in NSF hands and the NSF while it began to lose steam with the defection of their cores states, resisted efforts to join the new PSA.
Rebels still rampaged over the Mid-West, while rioting in Portland Maine led to a full fledged rebel army. Worst of all from Cleveland to Milwaukee was under the iron grip of the Combined Syndicate of America. Long said that "a home shattered into little itty bits will leave it's inhabitants wide open to the raging winds! This is war! There shall be no retreat, no surrender and no quarter!"
Long immediatley ordered the recruitment of another cavalry division and a division of Mark VIII Liberty tanks declaring that "these tanks will anhilate the opposition no problem" however the apparatus of government in the United States had broken down and while he sent the orders to the Pitsburgh factories they either did not get the message or willfully ignored it.
Stillwell's forces failed to retake Charleston and were pushed out by the rebels where they retreated to Pitsburgh leaving West Virginia to Neo-Syndicalist rebels who had yet to acknowledge the so called President Reed...
With America thrown into civil war, brother against brother, with things not looking good for America, Long decided that they must abandon Monroe Doctrine or else risk being dragged into another war.
At the start of the civil war, the young movie star Ronald Reagan, joined the National Gaurd and was deployed to the D.C. area. The National Gaurd finally confirmed the rumours that the star of Robot Monster's Plan 9 From Outer Space, Love is in the Air and Spring Time for Genghis Kahn was recently killed under mysterious circumstances.
Entire states defected to the socialists as the workers of Pitsburgh rose up destroying Stilwell's forces and another division enroute to New York was defeated by CSA forces, then the city of Mineapolis defected feeling that the current administrations right wing policies were reason enough. Long declared that "not two stones will be left together in what was once Mineapolis" With the defection of coastel territories most importantly New York large parts of the fleet mutinied.
The state legislature in Nevada shortly afterwards decided to take their chances with the prosperous Pacific States of America. With the current state of the rest of the union many found it hard to blame them. Only three hours later the State Legislature in Idaho voted to join the PSA. The stability of the west coast was the major reason but some think it was the extreme politics.
On April 11th Canadian troops entered the United States with the intention of occuping New England in response to the expansion of the CSA. Quickly seizing Boston most of the region was occupied by the end of the week. King Edward VIII announced that "after seeing our motherland choked by the evils of Syndicalism we shall not allow our American brothers to be crushed under the boot of the unions" While some in Long's cabinet advocated resisting this invasion, the Canadians had clearly planned for this eventuality well in advance and Long's forces were to busy elsewhere for there to be anyway to stop them, Long is said to have stated "better them than the reds"
The better part of the blocade force, tasked with keeping California bloacaded defected to the PSA less than a week into the civil war. However not everything was going compleatly wrong for Long. Texas stayed loyal and ammased a considerable military to combat the rebels. The Montatana and Colarado gaurds were quickly mobilised to fight the Califiornia Rebels.
The suspension of the constitution caused a severe strain on the United States and especially the military that was fighting the war. The string of defeats certainly did not help Long's image and so with the support of units in the army, General Douglas Macarthur stormed the White House and seized power. Declaring his faction to be the Constitioutionalists he garnered support primarily from the defeated Republicans and Democrats.

The Natural Fate of all Prisoners
Bullets cracked out in the night air, Joe crouched under the shrubbery, looking through the gnarled branches at a force of enemy troops camped out by the road. He jumped out of the bushes brandishing his gun while his compatriots covered him, the demoralised enemy troops virtually out of ammunition and with their guns soggy and wet hastily surrendered. Joe's comrades then lined them up by the station wagon and machine gunned them to death. "You know Joe we need to find something to do with prisoners after we capture them than just shooting them." Frank exclaimed. "Like what, put them in jail? There aren't enough jails in the country to hold all the prisoners that are being taken" Joe exlaimed. "Maybe we could put them in I don't know some kind of summercam-" suddenly Frank crumpled to the ground, blood rushing down his temple. A burly Swedish sereagnt rushed over, "Were you listening to someone speakwhat I think you were listieing to someone speak? Because if you are..." He exclaimed menacingly. "Sorry sir it will never happen again sir, such things are a terrible idea and are totally inhumane sir". "Good to hear that one of you has some brains Hardy, at least before I blew the other ones brains out, we shall continoue to execute all prisoners as soon as we take them"

The War Widens
The government of the Pacific States of America determined that the only way they could win this struggle was to place the military in power for the interim General Henry Arnold was to the first president of this new nation, who like an ancient Roman general, Cincinattus was to give up his powers when the crisis was over, the question was would he...
President Doroteo Arango Arambula, invaded California three weeks into the civil war citing Mexico's prior control over the region, this caused great concern in other border areas especially in Texas.
Long barely escaped Washington with his life, and in fact Dr. Hiram W. Evans an important member of Longs inner circle was killed in the chaos of the coup along with a large number of other members of the shortlived Long administration. Long having escaped to Atlanta declared that "the United States is a dead nation, but it shall be ressurected! Once we have purged it of the rot and the cancer it shall rise again like a phoenix more glorious than before!"
