Fgorginator - Thanks but the Red Army isn't going backwards just yet :)

alan_le_cowboy - US CV builds are increasing as was to be expected.

Persia might be possible but the following update puts a damper on the whole idea. If I were to invade Persia I would actually not annex as I would avoid touching Soviet territory.

The reason for this is the oil in the region which I could take without having to deal with the Soviets. I could then move through Iraq as well taking the oil there. Further advances could then be made to annex both Syria and Palestine and then try and lock the Allies to the west of the Suez Canal. I do not have the troops to do this so I probably won't for a while.

One HQ is redeploying and does not show in the totals and I disbanded one a few months ago that was sucking up oil and supplies on a remote island in Indonesia.

robou, Murmurandus, stnylan - Manpower is at a critical level and won't be improving any time soon.

Thurak - The fight with the Bear is still not really in full swing so the casualties are fairly light so far. My deliberate policy of trying to engage in a head on fight with a massive enemy is going to hurt a lot once things really start moving. Hawaii cost a lot more than I had hoped but was necessary to buy myself time to fight the Red Army.

Sokraates - The name is appropriate I assure you. I don't make much money on a daily basis so I use what I have on trying to get spies overseas. If I do want to cancel a trade agreement and try a new one then yes I make the new one first and then cancel the old to prevent the 10 day delay. I don't think I have made a detailed resources report so far so one was due. I like to highlight some things rarely covered on occasion.

Nathan Madien - I could probably find a few more divisions if I really wanted to. The Marianas and New Guinea are still garrisoned which would give me 6 divisions. I could even reduce the anti-partisan defences in Australia but I would do that reluctantly as right now only one Australian province can revolt without being put down immediately. I absolutely hate chasing partisans around.

elbasto, ColossusCrusher - I would be over 1 manpower a day easily with a land bridge but Krogzar is correct I will not build one.

Krogzar - Correct on all fronts :)

OneArmed - Right now I would take your 1 manpower. Your welcome :)

Mythos1978 - Correct there will be no new puppets. I have three I started with and they will remain if I can keep them alive.

Sokraates - Actually the Soviets can quite easily get into India from the north if they want to. I expect them to do just that. it just means whatever forces they send that way will die easily though. Calcutta is out of range of the Allied aircraft and would allow me to decimate the Red Army if it tries to cross into India in the very open terrain south of the mountains.

Fgorginator, ColossusCrusher - Actually a Land Bridge is a crossable connection between two islands or from an island to the mainland. The normal one for Japan would be from Fukuoka to the island off South Korea. An example of a Land Bridge would be Sakhalin island to Siberia which the Soviets are using.

harezmi - A struggle is a lot more entertaining than a walk over :)

Update to follow ...

Diplomatic Offices. Tokyo, Japan.

The Diplomatic Offices of Minister Mamoru suddenly became very busy as a succession of Foreign Ambassadors were summoned for talks about various trades. A large number of these Ambassadors were from South American countries that were still relatively friendly towards Japan but others were from European countries.

aug1460000gr1.jpg

The Turkish Ambassador was the first to arrive and was informed that the trade deal he had with Japan for money in exchange for Japanese Rare materials was being cancelled. They still had an energy trade that would remain in force.

Mamoru used the surplus he had just created to broker a deal with Nationalist Spain for a similar amount of money as well as some energy with some Rare materials still left over.

aug1460000gr2.jpg

The Ambassadors from Argentina and Chile used up the extra Rare materials in exchange for small amounts of Energy. Trade deals with South America were currently unhindered by vessels preying on the lightly escorted convoys from Europe.

aug1460000gr6.jpg

Portuguese and Italian Diplomats were also traded Rare materials for Energy. Only 60% of the materials would survive the transit between the Countries but every little helped as Mamoru tried to overcome the obstacles his Country was facing.

aug1460000gr7.jpg

He concentrated on Oil for the remaining trades as he negotiated successful trades with both Saudi Arabia and Peru for small amounts of Oil and some more Energy.

aug1460000gr8.jpg

His final trade during these negotiations was with Uraguay. He could not broker a deal for a daily trade that was of decent quantities so he instead traded some of Japan's Metal surplus for Uraguyan Oil. His endeavors would be monitored for a few weeks before more deals would be tried.

BB Division 1 Flagship. IJN Yamashiro, In Transit.

Ozawa had not received any reports on the whereabouts of Sprague and his Carriers so he ordered Ichimaru and Genda to return to Samoa to reduce the Submarine force known to be in the small harbour.

aug1460300gr1.jpg

The Submarines were still in residence but Sprague had joined them to try and conduct repairs in the inadequate port facilites of Samoa. The bombers would target the USS Wasp first instead of the Escorts that they had done previously. With any luck Sprague would stay around long enough to suffer more major damage to his capital ships.

North China Army Headquarters. Lanzhou, China.

Higashikuni had benefitted from the appointment of Sugiyama to a corps in Urumqi as well as the redeployment of a headquarters division from further east. The Headquarters would take several weeks to arrive but would be helpful.

aug1461500gr1.jpg

In the mean time the Dive bombers from Urumqi had reduced the defenders to six divisions in Gulja province and were continuing their mission against the remaining force.

1500 August 1st 1946.
Kwantung Army Headquarters. Harbin, Manchukuo.

The now familair sound of Soviet rocket artillery and heavier long ranged guns rained down around Harbin heralding yet another attack against Terauchi's defences which had so far stood firm against all comers.

aug1461500gr3.jpg

Field Marshal Tobukhin would lead this charge as the Red Army tried to wear down the Japanese defenders heavily dug into the forests of the province. The night attack faltered and died out as dawn approached in a similar fashion to many previous attempts.

The Skies Above Samoa.

Ichimaru and Genda returned to Samoa in the early hours of August 2nd to find Sprague and his Carriers still at anchor in the harbour.

aug2460000gr1.jpg

The USS Wasp began taking damage almost immediately and was already beginning to burn from several fires started as a result of direct hits from Japanese bombs.

aug3460000gr1.jpg

Another attack launched on August 3rd would result in the USS Wasp being sunk with the bombers then switching targets to the second Carrier, USS Saratoga. Sprague had been correct about not staying in the harbour but seemed to have been over ruled and was now paying the price for that decision.

0300 August 4th 1946.
North China Army Headquarters. Lanzhou, China.

Higashikuni had ordered the Tactical bombers to return to their mission of destroying Allied forces in and around Karachi which they duly attempted.

aug4460300gr2.jpg

Air General Kenney and his escorted Naval bombers had other ideas as they intercepted the bombers over Karachi. The Japanese bombers suffered fairly substantial damage as a result and would be grounded until such time as the troublesome Naval bombers could be put out of action.

aug4460300gr1.jpg

Mj. General Saboru was ordered from Pyongyang to Calutta before making the shorter rebasing to Ahmadabad. His longer ranged Interceptors would be able to make contact with the enemy bombers once they had recovered from their journey. The shorter ranged Interceptors from Colombo were also moved back to Ahmadabad to try and assist.

0300 August 4th 1946.
Kwantung Army Headquarters. Harbin, Manchukuo.

The pressure being applied to Terauchi's defences in the north was increasing rapidly and a spotting report from the Tactical bombers displayed just how many more Soviets were still moving into the area.

aug4460000gr1.jpg

The Red Army was still capable of fielding a large amount of divisions on the front lines and these troops were already on the way. The bombers were continuing their systematic destruction of the infrastructure to the north and west of Harbin and had already made considerable inroads into that task.

aug4460700gr2.jpg

General Rotmistrov tried another attack against Bayan Tumen three hours before dusk which initially looked promising for the Russain forces. The arrival of darkness soon put pay to that promise as the Soviet attack faltered and died out long before dusk could arrive. Japanese troops in the province could still not find time to recover fully between successive attacks.

0000 August 5th 1946.
The Skies Above Samoa.

Ozawa was pleased with the sinking of one enemy Carrier and would receive further good news from Samoa over the next day.

aug5460000gr1.jpg

Sprague was still in the harbour as Ichimaru and Genda returned for a third day which led to more damage to the USS Saratoga. Genda was forced to withdraw from further bombing missions as his squadron began to sustain too much damage which left only Ichimaru to launch the next attack on August 6th.

The USS Saratoga would be sunk during this bombing run effectively pulling the teeth from Sprague and his fleet. Ichimaru would join Genda in Fiji and remain out of action for some time as repairs were made to all of Japan's Naval bomber squadrons.

0400 August 5th 1946.
North China Army Headquarters. Lanzhou, China.

The bombing against Gulja had ceased to have the expected results as the Soviet troops dug in to the mountains of the province. Many of the divisions were damaged and Higashikuni overcame his reluctance and ordered an attack against the depleted enemy troops.

aug5460400gr1.jpg

Yamada led the attack on this occasion with support from the Dive bombers. The defences crumbled at dusk after a six hour battle that had seen the Soviet troops take another pounding. The bombers would now be able to bomb these troops as they tried in vain to retreat to Soviet soil.

aug5461900gr1.jpg

The situation in India worsened at 1900 hours as four Allied divisions arrived in Karachi and launched an attack towards General Abe in Sukkur. He would hold until dawn when the battle turned against him which forced him to withdraw to Hyderabad to the south. Without the Tactical bombers being available trouble could be brewing in this area as the lightly garrisoned area began to be put under increasing pressure.

0000 August 7th 1946.
Naval Offices. Tokyo, Japan.

Osami had been monitoring the repairs to various ships amongst Japan's Transport fleets before giving the go ahead for the beginning of Operation Tedious. He had seen all he needed by August 7th.

aug7460000gr1.jpg

Admiral Mikawa embarked two Manchurian Cavalry divisions onbard the Transport ships of 8. Kaigun and headed north towards Erinea Gulf. His course took him the slightly longer way around Sakhalin Island to avoid the straits between the island and Siberia. The last thing Osami wanted was to trap any Soviet divisions on the island.

Outstanding AAR good job

Nice update again.

Glad to see you have dealt with Sprague and his CV's finally.

I'm also glad to see Tedious in in action.

Hopefully it is sucessfull.

Ruh roh. That breakthrough in Pakistan cant be good. :(

these Americans sure know how to get rid of carriers. Nice to see operations to decieve the enemy underway.

Interesting how incredibly effective escort planes can be at defeating enemy bombers. A tactic to consider if your are desperate enough, which the British seem to be.

Apart from that the British seem to be determined to elevate themselves from the rank of "nuisance" to "minor threat". Hopefully your interceptors will put them back to their proper place.

During the bombardment of Sprague's fleet, one ship or submarine seems to have sneakily escaped. After sinking the USS Wasp, 12 ships a re reported in the harbor while the next morning there are only 11. Do you know which ship got away? In any case you should hunt it down. It might transport vital information, e.g. "Stop building CVs and go for Subs, they are nigh impervious to air attacks!". ;)

I am surprised, given number of fights in Harbin, a forest province, no-one of your leaders got the Ranger skill...
I believe only the commander in charge has a chance to get on of the combat traits. At least I have only seen this happen to my commanding officers, not the tens of Major Generals commanding the individual divisions.

But true, usually I get one or two of the combat traits in areas of heavy fighting. Mostly Mountaineers when fighting in China...

Indeed they are. But the Brits also had turbojet naval bombers, so I assume their escort fighters are of similar technological prowess. Unescorted bomber squadrons are mincemeat if they meet any sort of fighter resistance -- especially in the later years with advanced technology. Just as in real life!

It must cost a lot of MP and IC to reinforce the bombers which get shot down in India. I would rather use the limited ressources on escort fighters (but then I wouldn't have made it so far anyway...). Would escort fighters decrease your mission range for India too much?

Reado said:
are you going to add escort wings to your bombers, it would reduce damage to them
...not to mention increase soft and hard attack by small amounts.
