"Senor Roseno, the government that you once knew is crumbling before you. We are not kicking it as it is down, as it no longer exists. We are just consolidating our military hold before the Imperialists take complete control of the country"

Well I'm not going to side with you and I'm not going to side with the reactionaries. So it's not completely dead.

The Coup will fail, democracy will shine, good stuff will happen.

That is all.

I encourage the cabinet of elected officials, the true leaders of glorious Chilean democracy, to move to safer headquarters during this Coup, so we can help co-ordinate the end of this unseemly rebellion.

((I think you missed my point. Its not socialists vs Republicans, Its Socialists/Marxists plus moderate Liberals Versues authoritarian conservatives, monarchists, and Nationalists. Which, IS like the Spanish Civil War.))

((Wow, my noobiness is shining today, isn't it? xD))

Cortez, whom I showed immense generosity to in 1863, when he was on trial, has shown he is nothing more than an imitator of Cesar, a little Napoleon, a puny Caesar!

The Republic Shall Stand! The Republic Must Stand!
I have made a sincere promise to you that Chile will remain free from the Radicals and the Socialists. I have done this to keep that from happening. This previous election was close from plunging this country to the chaotic rule of the Reds! Never again! With Senor Araya's bravery, I found a new way. To preserve what we love, we have to make sacrifices. I have no intention of ruling the nation under dictatorship for life. For I am growing old too myself.

The Republic will stand! For I am not an enemy of the Republic! I am no Cesar!

- Rebelling President Alejandro Cortez

((I think I'll go Communist on next character. Being a Conservative/Liberal is so mainstream :p.))

(Well, technically, unless Red Cesar declares agitation along with all the Socialists and Communists, then there is no third aspect to this civil war.)

If that be the case, then why do you fight against the democratically elected government chosen by the people? Why do you let Araya talk of banning not only the Socialistas and Communistas, but also the Liberales? Your reactionary traitors are nothing but that, reactionary traitors. You do not fight for the best interest of the people, you fight for the best interests of yourself. Araya has already said that only Conservadores will ever be elected to Presidente, and thus you are enslaving the people to a neo-democracy. Only allowing them to vote for who you believe should run the nation. You are taking the powers of a dictatorship without even admitting that you are doing so. Do not spit on the people of Chile and smile about it.

-Sebastian Roseno

A Declaration of Radicale Support

Hear me now, those of you who would still name yourselves Radicales!

We have come to an impasse. We now stand with two massive hedges between us. One is made up of nationalists and conservatives, those who would supplant Santa Rosa's machine and replace it with one of their own. Another is made up of not only those former Santa Rosaists, but also of communists and socialists, who are perhaps just as bad if not worse. What path will we blaze?

I understand, many of you wish to defy both, and rise once more to the cause of liberty, to stand straight and tall, uncompromising, even in the face of Armageddon. There was a time, once, when even I would have spat both in the face and pursued my own path. But now is not that time. We cannot stand alone. If we stand alone, both sides will fall upon us like two waves racing to meet one another, and our struggle will have been for naught, for no one will remember us in the middle of such a catastrophic war. As much as I hate the communists and the socialists, in the end I would prefer them over the reactionary dictatorship that would be installed were the nationalists to succeed.

Therefore, I hereby issue this declaration, a declaration of Radicale support for the Republic. Go now, Citizen Guard, stand with your Chilean brothers and sisters! Though the Red Guard may be despicable, they bleed red, just as we do! Our fight with them is destined for another day! For now, we take the fight to the reactionaries! Viva la Chile!

"It seems more and more likely that the bourgeois government will fall...only to be replaced by a reactionary military Junta...Since, at this fledgling hour, I cannot locate any other Politburo members, I call all Chilean Red Guard Units to war. We shall wage our revolutionary struggle from the mountains, from the jungles, from the cities! We shall topple the reactionary junta coming into being, and create a Dictatorship of the Proletarian! The time for freedom, has come. The time for negotiations, is over. I hereby put forward the motion of our Red Guard units to be organized under a military arm of the Chilean Partido Communista, known as the Revolutionary Democratic Front. The reactionaries, stop here."

-Armando Renin
Despite the split of the FNT and the Communista's I say we stand together against this new tyranical force and suppot the Revolutionary Democratic Front.
((This is just a call to arms and a decleration of aggitation and nothing more. I support neither side at the moment, and am also aware my opinion does not matter ;) ))

*And so, with a weary sigh, 5 old men, also known as the entire Chilean Radicale's party, reached their rifles*

((Could we even have a three-sided Civil War? The Republicanos/Liberales seem to have an administrative disadvantage (though it does have the founder of this Republic and the officially elected president on its side). It would be interesting, but it could be too confusing, and I have no idea how difficult it would be to implement in-game.

If it does happen (TH?), will it be Republicanos/Liberales vs. FNT/Comunista vs. Nationales/Rosenoists?))

So, Senor German, I am the lesser of three evils in this scenario? I am amazed we would find ourselves in agreement (and find myself aligned to a madman...); regardless, all people of Chile must rally behind the Republic!

(:)rofl: Sir, I award you an internetz! Well played!))

That's everyone who's declared so far. Keep 'em coming.

And it looks like we'll make our 19th Century coup quota after all.
((I'd like to add to the list:
Grand Admiral of the Navy: Gabriel Alvarez (Gloa) - DEAD, but turning in his grave ))

((But you aren't supporting the Liberals, you are fighting against them as well. It is a 3 way war.))
((Heh, an actual 3 way coup would be fun to watch, although I'm not sure how it would work game-wise. Every side would have to worry about whether it would topple the government only to lose out on actually ruling the country in the end.))

These individuals, please declare your allegiances For the Republic or For the Coup!

Gloa, I appreciate that your character is dead. Declare anyway.

((I'd like to add to the list:

As I said, declare anyway. I assume you're for the Republic, judging from your comment.

((Get your party, run to the Andes - run for your lives - wait there until the remaining parties systematically crush each other, come down in power and plant the banner in the Congreso :) Liberales plan(tm)))

As I said, declare anyway. I assume you're for the Republic, judging from your comment.

OOC:Actually Thunderhawk since you said any unoccupied ministry would be fielded by the president and Gloa obviously doesn't want to lead the Navy at this point, shouldn't Cortez have control over the Navy?

The Chilean Navy, under the influences of leadership appointed by former Admiral Alvarez and other Republicano leaders - with the memory of former coup's still in their minds - is For the Government.

Game-changer right here.
