January 1st, 1936
As most of the world was celebrating the New Year, not everyone was so cheerful. King George V lied in his bedchamber, his health, both mental and physical failing. Acting in his absentee, Prime Minister Mackenzie King worked into the night while the Empire celebrated, making decisions concerning production, technology and the shape of the government. He ordered Imperial Oil to begin researching techniques that could lead to breakthroughs in Industry, for the Canadian Pacific Railway to find a way to easier transport troops and supplies quicker and more efficiently while Vicker-Armstrong began to design a new class of Naval Carrier, although the Board of Directors wasn't sure it was going to keep the reaserch up if it wasnt showing progress within the first few weeks. Also, he passed legislature which moved the Nation farther from isolationism and instead towards interventionism, making any declaration of war easier and less troublesome in the future.
The Political Situation
Mackenzie King acted as the Head of State until the 20th of January...
The Death of the King meant Edward, Prince of Wales would soon take the throne. For days, The Empire mourned the Death of the King, who had ruled the Empire since 1910. His transition from this World to the next was painless, and it was only by God's grace that he survived as long as he did.
With the death of the King comes a possible new age for the Royal Family, her allies and the Empire States. R.B. Bennett and the Conservative Party, still bitter over their defeat in the Election of 1930 were planning to use the "Prince of the People" to pursue their own agenda, knowing he could be easily influenced.
The Prince, acting on the wishes of his senile, dying father sided with Bennett and the Exiles and the Conservative Party took control.
