I hate how cheap Mittleeuropa can be. Why can't they just respect the poor Portuguese? At least this oftens you the perfect propaganda against the Jerries.

Also, my hopes to Carville having a successful run as CSA President.

Logical move from Mitteleuropa.

PS: People wants Tania! :D

Well, you still have that giant beachhead called Russia... Speaking of Russia, there are even there some German nobles claiming the throne, so, you know, maybe the Kaiser may try to do the same thing which happend to Portugal ...

Annoying, but on the face of it this move makes sense for Portugal. When the war starts they almost certainly would have been occupied by Mitteleuropa anyway so they may as well attempt to spare their land the imminent fighting.

Kabul, Afghanistan
16 February 2011

Hamid Karzai, leader of regime which now controlled only the strict centre of Kabul, observed the fires that were spreading in outskirts of the city. He listened to shots and explosions that were filling the night. Situation in Afghanistan was getting too hot for French peacekeepers. Increased tensions in the country put the lifes of foreign soldiers in danger. After several attacks on peacekeepers, President Dassault ordered retreat from Afghanistan. Various warlords and insurgents groups foght the goverment and each other. Some represented completely local interests, some fought for control of the entire country. Some of them even enjoyed foreign support. Afghanistan was leaning too much towards Entente. French suspected that Persia and Qing Empire support various rebel groups. Members of Entente were also splitted: Russians and Indians both wanted to exercise their influence over Afghanistan. Karzai was waiting who will make the first move. Both Indian and Russian armies were massing on the borders of Afghanistan. Who will try to bring the peace back to country? Kabul was under siege at least three factions. They were storming the capital from all sides and fighting each other in same time. Control over the capital would bring much power to any of them.

- Sir, we must leave. It is becoming too dangerous. Helicopter is waiting.

Karzai looked trough window for the last time and left the room. Helicopter took him to safe exile in India.

Hundreds of miles away in Moscow, Tzar and his ministers were carefully observing the situation in Afghanistan. Prime Minister Fedor Ladygin who was recently appointed by the Tzar was man with long career in military intelligence. Now it was his chance to start with execution of his working manifest codenamed ''Awakening the Bear''. Tzar searched for a man that would bring the Russia back to her glory for a long time. Vladimir Putin, colonel of Okhrana, seemed to be a good choice in the first years of 21st century, but his private interests overhelmed the interests of Motherland and Tzar had to replace him with new man. There was no place for two Tzars in Russia. He had to replace him with Mikhail Fradkov, but the new Prime Minister didn't fulfil Tzar's expectations. He was a dove in nest of hawks. Russia could get more from her participation in actions of Entente. Fradkov managed to brought more political stability in society with his liberal views, but Russia stagnated in global politics. Economic situation was improved, but Russia still couldn't team with fast growing economies like United States and Qing Empire. Ladygin was diffrent from his preceders. He was Tzar's shadow, fully devoted to the interests of Russia. His ambitious plans were liked by the Tzar. Afghanistan was the first test for reborn Russian ambitions.

Everything went according to plan. General Khayrulloyev, leader of Tajik faction in Afghanistan and Russian favorite, managed to brush away other factions that were sieging Kabul and his troops entered the capital. Russians were secretly arming Tajiks fo a long time and the forces of General Khayrulloyev secured the city. General Khayrulloyev immediately declared himself as the leader of new regime. Russian Empire recognized the new regime in few hours. However, General Khayrulloyev was in similar position as Hamid Karzai was some time ago. New regime efficiently controlled only the capital.

Tajik troops were controlling the streets of Kabul, but much of the rest of the country was still in chaos. Now it was time for the Russians to step in. Russians quickly responded the invitation for military intervention. Russian troops crossed the borders, Russian paratroopers landed in Herat and Qandahar.

Russians quickly stabilized the situation in Afghanistan, which became Russian client state. It was decided keep the Afghanistan a republic with strong role of president. General Khayrulloyev was also formally confirmed as the new president. His rule was supported by Russians. According to protocole of Entente about automatic membership, Afghanistan became member of the alliance. Entente acknowledged Russian interests in Afghanistan despite the Indian complaints. However, expansion of Russian interests didn't end in Afghanistan. Eyes of the Moscow now turned to Mongolia.

I see the Russians had to get rid of Communism and wait 25 years to make an insurgency into Afghanistan successful.

Well, time to cut the size of Mongola a bit.

Indeed, their help will be more precisous in the West.

Let's all betray the Czar and make democracy a reality in Russia.

I really want a little update on Mongolian history up to date! What happenned to the little mad german ruling it?

Looks like Russia is really trying to reassert itself on the world stage. Since they are your ally, I actually hope they succeed. Lets just hope their actions do not inadvertently start a big war, especially if they are going to mess with Mongolia, a country that could appeal to Japan and its allies for help.

I'm still at page 21, but I just wanted to pipe up: the French republic should have gotten their own puppet royalist faction to oppose the Orleanists and the Bonapartists: the Legitimists! As ironic as that would be, they could have peeled away support from the other two groups, and caused them fall into three-way infighting! Besides the Legitimists are supposed to be ultra-royalist and arch-conservative so that must mean they fight more fanatically.

Edit: Having read onwards, I still think that Dassault should have secretly supported a Legitimist pretender against Philippe and Lois Nicolas! That way France could have four kings fighting for it! (including the German-installed puppet in mainland France) Splinter the monarchists, that's what I say!

What is the basis of the puppet monarchy in France, anyways? Is it some German prince who was given a French name and then installed in Paris? Some bourgeois collaborator that had his lucky day from the German occupation authorities? A literal marionette?

If we had the Legitimist's then it'd probably make the whole dispute for the French King a whole lot worse, after all, the goal is to establish democracy, (albeit currently through Authoritarian Means), not reestablish monarchism.

As for the situation in the French Mainland, the HoS is the great grandfather or something to that effect, of a German Prince. The Duke of Normandy and Brittany as well are German.

Let's forget the divine right monarchy shall we. I say, let's elect an Emperor! Way more legitimate !

@ Strategos' Risk: Thank you for your interest in my AAR. I was thinking about including Legitimists too, but I'll rather leave them for the future. Action Francaise (currently not allowed to operate as all other parties) will need another Bourbon claimant in the future to counter Republicans (and maybe Bonapartists too) when Dassault (hopefully) decide that situation is stable enough to end the rule of Junta and re-establish democracy. King of German-puppeted France comes from new French royal family that was founded by Germans after destruction of Commune of France by puting George of Hannover, young German noble, in the French throne. Brittany and Normandy have also German monarchs (this is obvious from their names).

Thanks for comments, everyone!

Japanese air space
12 April 2011

Sergey Lavrov, Russian foreign minister, ended his visit in Japan. Ilyushin Il-96 carried Russian foreign minister and several other diplomats back home. Lavrov was thinking about the secret agreement that was made with Japanese. He was thinking about the Tzar's decision. Is Mongolia now more important interest for Russia than Vladivostok? It's true that Okhotsk has become the most important Russian port in Far East. There wasn't much choice anyway. Russia is sticking to Entente, and Entente is going to launch the project of global co-prosperity. Russia has made the best decisions in this situation. Russian Empire has withdrawn the claims from Transamur, and Japanese have ended their secret protection over Mongolia.

The airplane passed Korea and entered the air space of Fengtien Republic. Lavrov was thinking about Mongolia. The most isolated country on the planet was a great mistery. Mongolia became independent after the fall of Qing Empire. During the civil war in Russia, White commander Baron Roman Ungern von Sternberg responded the invatation of displaced Mongol ruler Bogd Khan and liberate Mongolia from Republican Chinese forces that occupied independent monarchy. Von Sternberg, the great mystic and admirer of Eastern civilizations, became dictator of Mongolia while Bogd Khan preserved the formal status of religious and political leader. Von Sternberg cut all ties with Russia and became fully dedicated to Mongol cause. He even believed that he was reincarnation of Genghis Khan.

Bogd Khan, Spiritual head and monarch of Mongolia from 1911 to 1924.

However, his ambitious plans for restoration of great empire didn't come true. Two years after the death of Bogd Khan in 1924, Von Sternberg officially declared himself for Khan of Mongolia. He maintained good relations with Tibet, country which shared with Mongolia a strong tradition of Budhist Lamaism. Sternberg's advisor, fellow Russian officer that was loyal to Baron in all his adventures, left Mongolia and moved to Russia after the Baron's death in 1972, and revealed much about the strange Khan. In late 1930s, Von Sternberg planned to liberate all Mongol lands first, and then try to expand his influence in China. Baron planned to forge an alliance with Tibet and also with Qing Empire. Three mighty defenders of tradition would then save the China from corrupted foreigned influences, especially from Western and Japanese imperialism. However, Qing Empire proved to be ''infected'' with Western influence too much, as Pu-Yi found Germans as more reliable allies than Mongols.

Despite the Qing ''betrayal'', Sternberg insisted with his ambitions. He tried to establish connections with Shangqing Tianguo, spiritual successor of Taiping Tianguo. This rebellious theocratic revolutionary state preached spiritual purity and removal of all corrupted influences from China. However, Sternberg saw salvation ideas of Great Teacher Zhang Tianran being too alienated from the noble Eastern spirituality, while Zhang Tianran also wasn't amused about Sternberg's view on absolutist monarchy as ideal political structure. Von Sternberg cut the ties with Shanqing Tianguo and prepared for joint Mongol-Tibetan strike on lands of Ma warlords. Unfortunately for Von Sternberg, it was too late for such plan. Ma brothers started to approach the Qing Empire and Tibetans saw such plan too risky now. Von Sternberg later also tried to seek alliance with Turkestan, but Russian actions in Central Asia prevented establishment of such alliance. Russians soon became more suspicious about Mongolia and Khan forgot about his plans and wrapped the country into isolation.

The Great Teacher Zhang Tianran.

Baltic-German Russian Baron who proclaimed himself for Khan of Mongolia died without descendants. Mongol nobles of his court fought for his legacy. Since then, Mongolia was ruled by many diffrent self-proclaimed Khans who never ruled very long. Internal fractions were weakening the country and Mongolia would quickly become prey of her neighbours if there wasn't silent Japanese protection. Japanese Empire supported Mongolia to counter interests of it's rivals in China, especially Russian Empire and Qing Empire. Now, this protection was withdrawn with secret deal between Russia and Japan. However, this Russo-Japanese agreement was part of much bigger agreement between Entente and Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Ilyushin Il-96 finally entered the Russian air space.

rus-plane2.jpg

Some days after mysterious visit of Russian diplomacy in Japan, Russian Empire issued ultimatum to Khanate of Mongolia. Russians demanded return of territories that were occupied by Sternberg's Mongolia during chaos in Russia. Mongolian leaders, still believing in Japanese protection, refused Russian demands. With Mongolia refusing to cave into Russian demands, Russia decided to execute her claims by force.

If you ask me, those provinces controlled by Mongolia are more important than Transamur. We can always alter the Transiberian Railway.
