Austro-Italian border, 24 January 2003

Two Austrian soldiers were freezing in cold Alpine night. It was their turn for night border watch. This asigment is not very popular among soldiers. Catching death of cold somewhere in the mountains is not great motivation for young man. Current mission of border patrols in this area: Observation of Italian positions. Two young men were watching terrain on other side of border trough scopes of their Steyr AUG assault rifles.

''Nothing interesting to see,'' said one of them. ''Those damn Syndies are probably all digged in their heated cafetarias. Drinking, smoking and playing cards. Maybe they have even some girls there. Italians realy know how to enjoy life. They wouldn't even notice if we attacked them. Thanks to God, we aren't in war yet. But there will be a war one day.''

Other soldier responded: ''Shut up, do you wish to storm their positions right now?'' They may be comforted and lazy, but they know how to shoot. I don't think our Austrian discipline will help us if we freeze alive here. They don't have their hands glued to frozen metal as we have.''

Giant lightened signs on few Italian buildings were sending political messages to Austrians. Some of them were sending boring political propaganda such as ''Red flag will triumph'', ''Glory to Syndicalist Federal Republic of Sicilies'', ''Reactionaries, beware!'', ''Austria, jail of nations'', and similar stuff. But some of them were very provocative: ''Would you like some hot cappuccino, sir?'' Sentences like this had great psychological effect on freezing soldiers.

Border patrols were waiting on their positions until morning when new units, ready for regular daily watch replaced them.

Awesomeness inconceivable ... I had heard someone wanted to make a mod like this. I didn't know it had been done ....

Or are you playing the normal Kaiserreich and writing it as if it is modern ?

Cool. I'm in! :D

Hope the Syndies fail :)

Here I join! So, you finally have done it! :D

Trufax, I bought an Austrian Style sausage at Lidl the other day. Thicker than my wrist

I visit Austria on a yearly basis, and I can inform you that AU's strongest point is their sence of quantity :D. Beers are unanimously served in barrels of half a litre, 33's are considered inferior in Innsbruck and Tirol (not sure about Vienna, I guess it's more posh). Austrian food is awesome, although lacks variety (lots of Italian import aswell). Austria is like Switzerland, although not even as half as expensive (damn the Swiss... damn them to hell!)

If you ever visit Europe around new year's eve, be sure to spend it in Austria or Germany. Everyone is wasted as hell, and everyone has an entire arsenal of fireworks. It's a warzone :p

This sounds odd. But cool :D

btw. austria has a pretty big variety of food. people are just too lazy to cook it. only mothers do this..
but nothing compared to italy.. they are the mcgyvers of cooking. but at least we´ve got better beer than the germans. :eek:o :D
wiener schnitzel ftw! :)

Information about AAR

I'm very glad to have such nice response of readers on first update of my new AAR. I was thinking on scenario like this for some time and now I decided to bring it into daylight. As you see, my story will be some kind of mix between two diffrent mods: Modern Day Scenario and Kaiserreich. Now I'll give you some more details on my story.

Is this AAR just original Kaiserreich scenario thrown into modern day world?

First I thought to make scenario like this, but it wouldn't make sense. It is impossible that world would not have changed for almost 60 years. That's why I decided to make some kind of Kaiserreich ''extension''. My story is based on hypothetical gameplay since 1936. Yes, there already were events like Austro-Hungarian Ausgleich, Spanish and American civil wars, unrest in Russia, conflicts in China, wars in Central Asia, fights between Indian factions, Germanisation of Baltic, Third Balkan war and other important things. There is only one thing missing: Weltkrieg II. Syndicalist France decided that it is not wise to throw stones at Germany and never demanded Alsace and Lorraine by threat of war.

Is such long period of peace realistic?

Well, there was very long period of relative peace. Instead of ''Hot War'', there was some kind of Cold War between diffrent ideological factions. But this doesen't mean that there were not any wars at all. Syndicalist Internationale supplied nations under colonial heel with arms, material and military advisors. This caused many regional wars, especially in Africa and Asia. While National France fought bloody battles against Algerian and Tuareg rebels, regime in Mittelafrika found more pragmatical solution. In manner of racial equality, natives were allowed to occupy high positions in political, military and civil administration. With growth of wealthy native middle class that was loyal to German Kaiser, syndicalist ideas couldn't succeed in Mittelafrika. Today, population of Mittelafrika is enjoying one of highest living standards in world while native African population and German colonists live in respective coexistence. Rich with natural resources has Mittelafrika, once poor colonial puppet, became force that is equal to her allies in Europe.

It's nice to hear diffrent story about Africa. What about Asia?

Asia is very restless continent. With victory of Delhi in war between Indian fractions, new regional superpower started it's dominance in Indian subcontinent. With victory of their ally, Entente gained strong position is Asia. Syndicalists from Bengal fleed from their fallen fortress into Indochina. There they joined with local anti-colonial movement, reinforced with European Syndicalist military instructors. Such mass of political opponents couldn't be stopped from seizing power in region. Weak goverment of Burma was first victim of socialist revolution. Red tide then splashed into Siam and Thai monarchy has fallen. With rise of new Syndicalist power in region, German dominance in Vietnam and Laos was seriously threaten by local resistance that was supported by Syndicalists of Burma and Siam. Germans and Entente tried to break Syndicalist fortress many times, but their invasions were always unsuccessful due to harsh terrain of Indochina. In early 1960's German Kaiser ordered aerial bombardment of Indochina. After this decision things got only worse. Massive revolts in Vietnam and Laos forced German Reich to deploy more than 150.000 troops in region. In long and bloody war that lasted more than 10 years, Germany decided to withdraw from Indochina, leaving only weak puppet goverment behind. Pro-German regime had soon fallen and two more Syndicalist nations rose from ashes. With Treaty of Saigon in 1979 four Syndicalist republics, Burma, Siam, Laos and Vietnam merged into ''eternal and indivisionable union of brother nations'', officialy named Syndicalist Federal Republic of Indochina. They chosed Hanoi as capital of new state in honour of Ho-Chi-Minh, leader of Vietnamese resistance that started his rebellion in this city. Germany had left Vietnam, but they couldn't risk to leave Malacca strait to Syndicalists. They changed Singapore and Malaysia into mighty fortress that could hold any attack from land, air or sea.

That's just great, but don't you think you forgot to tell us more about other parts of world? You described only southern Asia. What about China, Japan, Russia? What happened in America and Europe?

All this will be revealed trough story. Why should I spoil all the fun with telling you all in the start?

What type of AAR is this?

This will be narrative and gameplay AAR. Other details will be revealed trough updates.

Ambitious AAR, integrating two popular mods. Good luck.
