These days I wanted to start playing the game again but it was very slow sometimes, is there a Mod on Steam or a configuration in the game that optimizes the game??? At least a graphics change

Try searching "performance" on steam you should get a bunch of performance enhancing mods
This even works for other pdx games people generally try to put out performance mods for every game they can

There are different ways to help and optimise perfomance.

1)
These mod help by reducing the map.
Should all work under any 3.x patch

and

- This one changes a bit more than the map alone, so does the alternative linked in there

- This one Europe-Only
might work, but i don't know for sure as it looks was done for patch 3.0 (check the descriptions in post) :

IF anyone needs a manual download link of the first three mods, just say so.
I guess i could try to attach them here to download.

----

2)
Alternatively using a flat water or flat map mod instead of reducing the map as such supposedly helps too
See search results on SteamWorkshop :

The flat water mod :

----

3)
You can also play around with changing your settings.txt file in Documents/Paradox Interactive/CK2
Code:
mapRenderingOptions=
{
    draw_terrain=yes
    draw_water=yes
    draw_borders=yes
    draw_trees=yes
    draw_rivers=yes
    draw_postfx=yes
    draw_sky=yes
    draw_bloom=no
    draw_tooltips=yes
    draw_hires_terrain=no
    draw_citysprawl=yes
}

Turning off trees, sky and postfx allegedly helps a good bit.
Others less so and turn the map ugly.

A guide i accidently found, that's providing suggestions for this :

----

4)
- Turn off message settings as much as possible
(described in above linked guide)
- Save, quit and restart the game after about three hours playing.
(This empties cache files and improves reading times etc.)

----
The thread might probably better be in the User Modifications suforum instead, but it makes sense here as well.

And a question, does this disable achievements?

And a question, does this disable achievements?

Going by what i know about it mods that change the map in option 1 will deactivate achievements.
The other options should be fine in this regard.
No guarantee.

how much dead characters affect performance? is there a program which would remove dead people from the game?

if not, could i maoe one just by removing all charscters which have a death date in the save? wouldnt it break the game?

.... wouldnt it break the game?

Naturally you need the dead for succession calculation.

As far as i know the dead shouldn't be an issue, as it's the events and other checks on the living that slow the game down.
Maybe i'm wrong, but not that i'd know. ;)
