How do the spritepack DLCs work?

basically, the questions in the title, how do the DLCs work? and are they safe/compatible with mods and the like?
like does it just add a the new graphics files or do they need other stuff changed for them too?

If I'm not mistaken, DLC are only images.
So best case is that you'll have the new images with the mod
Medium case is that you'll have a working miss of the images between the mod and the DLC (if the mod contain new images)
Worth case is that you'll have a brocken graphical interface. The game will be ugly (elements not at their place) but working

I have all the spritepacks but they don't seem to work ingame. My game is modded but the files shouldn't conflict. This should really be fixed in AHD.

Ofcourse. I'm suppose to see the sprites after researching "Modern Divisional Structure". Except i don't see them when i've finished researching the tech. I read somewhere that they only work in vanilla, but no files are in conflict.

They work fine, unless you have changed stuff in the technology files... Then you have to check what vanilla does to enable spriteswitches and then make sure your mod does the same.

Just had that horrible moment when a dev reveals the horrifically obvious solution to a problem you've been working on for eight months ><

In the tech files, there's 'unit = 1' and 'unit = 2' listed under the final two techs of the rifle line. That's what sets up the sprite changes.

Now I'm just off to birch myself for not spotting that in March.
