Part fourteen
A short update
After the war Hektor used the rest of his reign to do what he could do best, a peacfull expansion and strenghtening of Germany. The “war” with Brittany, who owned only one colony was ended right after the peace with France was signed.
At once Traders were send out to the few known places in northern Amerika, and a colony was founded in the Caribbean.
In Germany Missionaries were send in every remaining province with a wrong religion majority.
Germany prsopered further, but again the nobles overstreched their rights by subjugating the peasants. But Hektor never had any sympathies for the nobles, so he naturally protected the peasants.
The revolt in Bavaria was crushed easily, while the revolters in Pommern held out longer, in the end though, they were crushed. But even while the last Rebels were desperatly fighting for their lives the next noble demanded more money. There was no way that Hektor could or would accept such insolence.
Later the great refinery in Mainz burned down. But Hektor loved the wine that was produced in Mainz, so he orderd an immediate reconstruction of the refinery. And only two years later the refinery produced the finest wine in Germany again.
Though all this time the consolidation of Germany continued, and in December 1568 the Upper Saxon circle was created.
It was no question that Meissen joined that circle, after all they were involved in the negotioations for the creation of the circle.
The Netherlands, a german vassal, took the position of Meissen in the Protestant Alliance. The next threee years were basicly used to strenghten the position of german traders throughout the world. And making Germany one of the greatest economic powers in the world.
Hektor though had only 2 more years to do his job, until he got seriously ill and resigned the throne to his heir, “Johann III Georg der Ökonom”
The first thing he did when he took over the office was to conclude the negotiations begunn by Hektor, and annexed Austria.
So what had Hektor achieved during his reign? He managed to bring Germany back to his feet again, after it was almost totaly destroyed during the First War of Religion. He doubled the income of the state. He managed decrease the internal tensions by converting most of the country to Protestantism. Also he defeated France in the Second War of Religion and forced them to accept the Protestant faith. You can say, he made Germany to the strongest power Europe.
A few interesting sidenotes. As you see in the last picture, Spain lost controll over all of its posseions in the netherlands. Flandern and Brabant defected to the Holland, nad Artoise to France. But they won Karellia from Denmark, and Portugal won the two norwegian Provinces in the far north.
Poland inheritted Lithuania, and therby formed the largest Protestant state in Europe, making any German expansion to the east very difficult. France is severly weakend, and lost controll of Navarre, which declared independent. The strongest Alliance though is still the German with Sweden, Netherlands Bohemia and Germany.
