Wow, congratulations dear leader. Well done everyone. And we'll drink to the memories of the fallen.
... it was an intel failure that made it much more exiting than it should have been.
The entire fleet is now safely back in the Sigma Draconis system, has dropped a sensor buoy, and is headed to the planet to refuel.
Let the celebration begin!
Now that we are safely back in our own controlled system... I have a confession to make. Any alert posters who studied the ship designs that I posted will be aware of this already, but since absolutely no-one has mentioned it, I suspect that most of you hadn't realized it:
The six Carriers are each 15,000 tons, and carry no jump drives. Military ships can only make assisted jumps in company with another Military ship of the same tonnage or larger. We only have one 15,000+ ton jump-equipped Military ship, so there is only one ship in the entire Navy that could get the six Carriers in-and-out of the Wolf 294 system. That ship is the ESN Agincourt... the ship that got hulled in our first major action, early in the battle. We fought that whole series of engagements with the Agincourt open to vacuum, just waiting for one more enemy hit that would have doomed both our Heavy Cruiser AND all six Carriers. That enemy hit never landed.
You are free to call me crazy, if you wish. It worked.
I'm told that one thing a commander requires is steady nerves.
Im getting a promotion for this right?
Hey, with active sensors on the Prix could see exactly where we were and where we were going anyway, so...
Broadcasted radio message, as soon as the last ship jump out:
"Dear Prix. It is customary among my people to sing a song to defeated enemies. We have defeated you. This is the song.
Nah nah nah nah
Nah nah nah nah
Hey-hey
Goodbye"
(repeat. Endlessly.)
Congratulations on your great victory! You have made me feel... inadequate, by the way. It's almost 2060 in my game and I still haven't dared to challenge the evil aliens, and here you are kicking their ass before friggin' 2035The entire fleet is now safely back in the Sigma Draconis system, has dropped a sensor buoy, and is headed to the planet to refuel.

2. Fighters. Well, from a certain point of view, they DID perform as advertised: they certainly overwhelmed the enemy's point defense.
