30k tons...

We should make a battleship class, if only for the interstellar prestige. Plus it will make an excellent military jumpship. Maybe wait for the new engine and power techs, though :)

Also, how are the private investors doing? Any new companies, and are the current ones growing much? :)

Ah, but then we'd need a Dreadnought class at about 45k tons that would be a one-off flagship for our fleet, think the Executor from Episodes V and VI. ;)

One thing that really pushes back on your ship size is the research cost of the actual ship component. Because it's such a large component it can be just as expensive to research as the next level of efficiëncy - something that would make that component smaller and thus easier to research ..

Sod the jump drive, most of our empire already has Jump Gate access yes? Lay down a 30k Beast of a Battleship, bristling with weapons and armour and be the envy of the galaxy. :nods:

Aye.

HMS Dreadnought herself was barely 20,000 tonnes, depending how you defined it. The Queen Elizabeths were only over 30,000 tonnes fully laden, and they're probably the pinnacle of WWI era battleships.

No interstellar empire is to be taken seriously unless it has massive Dreadnoughts roaming the space.

We would probably get more use out of a 30,000-ton ammunition tender...

In any case, I will likely wait until we have the new engine tech. Less than a year to go.

So, we are essentially in the inter-stellar Victorian era of ship design right now (In terms of weight/displacement, anyways).

So in my game I found some ship components in the ruins and shipped them back to Earth for disassembly. I gained enough points to discover new tech (capacitor recharge 4 I think it was). I'm pretty sure that completion of the project via component disassembly deleted Earth. I have now lost a billion population and all my research centers, shipyards, and most of my mineral stockpile.

A rare but known bug, which can be avoided by temporarily cancelling all your research projects before component disassembly, then setting them up again afterwards.

Can you fix it in Space-Master mode?

Yeah I found it buried in the 5.42 bug thread after I posted. I have a backup and I'll have to replay about a year of game time. But next time I disassemble I'll back up first and cancel all my projects.

"Sir, it seems we have discovered a usefull application from this piece of alien tech you sent us"
"Excellent, now lets put it to some use"
...
"Sit, it seems the new application has transported our whole planet out into the 12th dimension"
"Bugger"

Edwardian, probably.

It looks like the aliens from Independence Day decided to plant a virus of their own as payback

Our second non-Jump Battlecruiser, the ESN Parmenio, has been launched.

I'd happily take a non-jump battlecruiser, but I think I'm currently down the ladder in a light cruiser.
