Let's see if we can catch this pest...

Our Fighters reach station, we flip our active sensors back on, and...

... gotcha!

If this is indeed another El Dorado, couldn't it be possible that the techs we'd recover wouldn't be much use to us anymore? It seems that the Prix are not that far ahead of our tech...

A hidden treasure. Maybe useful, maybe not.

Of course such a planet would still yield a truckload of installations, so it would still be worth it.

And give our Marine Corps some entertainment.

Aye.

Prix snooper destroyed with thirty-five missile hits and two on-board secondary explosions. I think that Second Fleet should probably pack it in and head back to Earth... our Fighters have already used their carry-on weapon load-out, every spare round in the Carriers magazines, every spare round in the ammo tender, and have started dipping into the size-6 missiles carried by the Cruisers and Battlecruisers. We're running seriously short of bangs.

Note to self: MUST build more ammo tenders.

Captain Dewirix has been killed in an accident. Rear Admiral Verenti has retired at age 61. Commander Darthkommandant has retired from service at the age of 61.

First Fleet has relieved the out-of-ammo Second Fleet in the Gliese 250 system, just in time to escort the scout-ship ESN Brahe and the second Wrecker task force into the system. We believe that the Prix force in Gliese 250 has been crushed, but it is a very large system (about 88 b-km in diameter) and it is possible that some stray Prix forces remain to be engaged. Second Fleet has returned to Earth for overhaul and ammo replenishment.

Ruined Colony found on Gliese 250 A-II. We will send in a Xeno team to assess the extent and tech level of the ruins.

And he never fired a shot in anger! I think Dewi Jnr would like to follow in his father's footsteps (excepting the last couple that took him into the path of that speeding truck).

By the by, how is commander Avernite doing?

And are our shipyards capable of a battleship class yet? :D

Commodore Avernite is CO of the Hero class Battlecruiser Achilles, part of Second Fleet which recently took part in the battle of Gliese 250, against four Prix cruisers and two Planetary Defense Complexes.

Our largest shipyard has reached 30,000 tons. By comparison, our largest existing warship (a Hero class Battlecruiser, for example) is 20,000 tons.

We've finally been able to move a lot of the captured ship components (from excavations and wrecks) back to Earth and dismantle them... resulting in the gain of 60,000+ research points and four new techs:

30 cm Carronade
20 cm Meson Focal Length
Meson Focussing Tech 4
Missile Launcher Reload Rate 6

The last one (Missile Launcher Reload Rate 6) is the biggie... it should double our PD-missile launching rate, and significantly speed up our ship-killing missile launch rate. Of course, this means that we will tend to run out of ammo even faster...

Reload rate 6 is huge, it gives you 5s reload size 1 launchers and 30s reload size 6 launchers. In fact, you pretty much don't need reload tech after that for your main ships - just for oversized missiles or for miniaturised launchers.

We've also just completed a new level of Jump Drive efficiency, allowing us (for example) to reduce the size of our jump drives for 20,000-tonners by 17 hull squares (850 tons). That frees up quite a bit of displacement for other purposes, such as additional Magazine storage. Four more months and we can design new Gauss PD systems.

... looks like another Fleet rebuild coming up, although one might argue that I should wait for the next level of Power and Engine tech to finish. It's already under study.

EDIT:

In addition to gaining us more wrecks to scrounge and another xenoarcheological site to excavate, our conquest of the Gliese 250 system has given us access to another uninhabitable but mineral-rich world. Not quite as rich as Moria, but it has eight of the eleven trans-newtonian elements, in concentrations of 80% and up.

Another xenoarcheological site has been located, on the third planet of the second star of SFT 1321. This is one of the recently dePrixified systems. It is only a minor discovery, however... a "Destroyed Outpost". The find on Gliese 250 A-II is rather larger, and will take precedence.

EDIT: Captain Velko has retired.

His son Velko Junior has always dreamed about a career in the Navy, and wants to leave behind his current dull and boring job as an Internet forum moderator of a board dedicated to weird strategy games. :p

Our wreckers have salvaged that new 21,450-ton Hazara class Prix warship, and found size-6 missile launchers and a res-83 fire control with a range of 354 m-km. Looks like a missile boat.

EDIT :

Our survey vessels have found another destroyed Prix outpost on one of the newly-liberated worlds.

The list of xeno sites awaiting investigation and exploitation:

Ross 128 A-II : Destroyed Outpost
SFT 1321 B-III : Destroyed Outpost
Gliese 250 A-II : Ruined Colony

Each of the three sites is currently being investigated by a seperate Xeno team. I think we`ll slow down a bit on our anti-Prix campaign until we can digest these new discoveries.

.. yeah.
I've seen general fleet engagements that ended up with me burning through 6000+ size 4 missiles and a good chunk of my PD arsenal.
(In steps, after a hasty retreat for reloads ..)
That was against an NPR, mind. But those apparently can have really large fleets :p
That fleet in particular consisted of 61 warships and another 15 or so FAC..

Ross 128 A-II : Destroyed Outpost
SFT 1321 B-III : Destroyed Outpost
Gliese 250 A-II : Ruined Colony

That last one sounds promising. Nothing on the level of El Dorado, but should yield yet more lovely tech.
