I'm not even sure we can bombard ground troops that easily. Wouldn't be safe and clean, for sure. Particularly since we already have a colony there. And even less safe if we have ground troops right there next to the killer robots.

At first sight, that's a lot of troops. Though I wonder if we have a Marine Company or a Marine Battalion; a Company is quite worthless except against very small troops.

Battalion. I haven't built any Companies.

Combat continues. We took no casualties in the second round. The Prix only have one damaged unit left. The next round should finish it... unless another vault full of robots pops open.

Can ground combat damage installations you haven't reactivated yet?

Don't know. Don't think so.

We got him. No further casualties. Now let's hope we can dig up something that DOESN'T try to rip our faces off, this time.

Honestly, who stores killer robots in giant underground vaults and doesn't properly label them as such. Damn these space-Boers.

yeah they should have put up signs with bloody stick figure cartoons as a warning for future alien visitors unfamiliar with the locale

Found 3,800,000 fuel. Not too bad, although a tech would have been better, of course. In other news, Commander Ccbasin gets run over by a garbage truck. He should have been here on El Dorado, where it's SAFE.

Well since we can read both their language and their "symbology" (which I thought was a word made up by Dan Brown), then any kind standard warning would have been nice.

Could I request screenie of the current situation of our naval (&commercial, assuming they both fit) yard status?
I might have some design suggestions but need to know what exactly would be practical...

On El Dorado, we've opened five vaults so far. One held robots, two held nothing, one held a factory that later got destroyed when the damn robots attacked, and the last one held 3,800,000 litres of rocket fuel. Another 1742 vaults to go...

Hmm, ok, if everything is so large already, I'm kind of thinking...
Leave the current fleet as is, and design new stuff around the 20kton basis, after all, assuming the current fleet is sufficient to for our 'short term' security, I think it'd be better to just plan on building one from completely ground up instead of 'wasting' time on smaller filler ships into existing fleet, I'll see what my brain spins up as suggestion, considering there's 5 naval yards of equal size, I'm tempted to suggest something around 'independent 5 ship flotilla' that has jump cabable ship (or two if you like the safety, though I find it presumptuos that one can disengage and run away from losing battle anyways), and the other 4 somewhat different designs yet made to fight as whole (similar cycle times for offensive weapons and scattered active/thermal/em scanner plan, equal speed). Main reason why I think we should keep the existing fleet as is, as newer ships should probably be faster, or suppose we could go 4k km/s and lot of armor/long range artillery approach, with minimal engine numbers..

I'm not planning any major fleet builds until our resource base has expanded considerably. The main reason for building up the shipyards was so that I could build and refit ships more quickly. Until we have automated mines and mag catapults spread through a number of systems collecting resources, I'm probably only going to be building Freighters, Tankers, Orbital Fuel Stations, some non-jump PD escorts and FACs.

OK, so out of five vaults one had Murderous Killer Robots in it. If this pattern remains, we're looking at 348 more robot attacks before this exploration is over :D

Consider me to be thinking ahead too far then

No problem... one point worth mentioning is that just because we've got 20,000 ton yards, that doesn't mean that we have to build nothing but 20,000 ton ships. There's no reason that a PD escort must be that large, for example. I'm under the impression that large yards can build small ships faster than small yards do.

I might be mistaken about that, though.

How do damaged ground units repair? Do they have to return to Earth in order to fill out the ranks? That could make completing the dig a bit of a pain logistically.

Don't think so. That damaged ENG Brigade has repaired seven points of damage already. You can repair them faster by bringing in Replacement Battalions (that's a type of unit).

So far we've recovered a bunch of killer robots... which we decided not to keep... a construction factory, which subsequently got trashed by those aforementioned killer robots, a mine, an automated mine, and a crap-load of fuel. Recovery efforts continue.

EDIT: Found another construction factory. I've got Freighters in orbit, lifting the loot up off the surface as it's found, so the next bunch of robots don't destroy it.

HOLY CRAP!!!

... errr ... you people may remember that we`ve already explored two Ruins sites, one on Dravar XV, and one on Sigma Draconis. We found less than a dozen installations on each. Tech level 2 or 3.

Check this out:

1,747 installations, tech level 4. We`ve hit the jackpot, people!

Time to send in the Engineers.

I'm gonna spend quite some time there, diggin stuff up. This truly is my moment to shine. And if this continues the Engineers are going to be the most battle hardened vets of the entire military. I suppose I'll be commaning the engineers in place due to my new and shiny combat bonus?
