Abraham Lincoln looked above him and saw vultures circling overhead. He rode in a cart through the city of Washington DC towards his death. All through the streets were lined citizens. They bombarded Lincoln with curses and rotten vegetables.

He finally rode down Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House. Set up in the White House were a gallows. Lincoln was struck with sudden fear but didn't let it show in his face or by struggling. His hands were tied tightly behind his back so it would do little good. The least he could do is die with dignity.

The cart stopped 100 yards from the gallows and was separated by another crowd. Two soldiers pulled the former president to his feet and got him down from the cart.

He began to walk directly through the crowd escorted by the two soldiers. Even with the soldiers he was not safe, for the crowd beat him with stones and swtiches. The crowd closed around the three men and several more soldiers were sent in to escort Lincoln out.

Upon emerging to the other side he saw the man he loathed, 'His majesty King Ulysses Grant'. Grant stood there dressed extravagently for the occasion. He signalled the soldiers to bring Lincoln over.

Lincoln looked down on Grant he was much taller but that did nothing to intimidate the King. Grant looked up at him and asked "Would you like to see a priest before your death?". Pointing over to an old man clutching a bible in his hands.

Lincoln shook his head at Grant "I have done no wrong, to deserve this, or need a priest." Grant laughed and signalled the men to lead him to the gallows. Lincoln walked up the stairs and over the trap door. A weight was attached to his feet, while the rope was put around his neck.

"Any last words Mr. Lincoln?"--Grant asked

"It's President Lincoln and yes I do. You may hang your President today but a revolution will come someday and I only hope they will be merciful enough to give you the guillotine."--Lincoln said hoping that someday the people would'nt be merciful

King Grant glared at Lincoln and signalled the men to finish the job. The floor fell out from beneath Lincoln's feet and he fell. He was caught half a second later by his neck. He immediantly realized that his neck had failed to break and he would have to die of suffocation. He watched Grant laugh at what he had obviously planned. The people cheered as Lincoln felt the life drain out of him.

He tried to struggle but his hands were tied together and his feet were attacked to a weight with enough rope to reach the ground. Things began to go dark in Lincoln's eyes, he tried to fight the darkness coming over him, just like how he tried to fight the darkness that overtook the United States. Just like how he failed saving the United States he also failed in saving himself...

First I'm happy to say i'm start a new AAR. I wanted to hold off writing at least until Molon Labe was done but I couldn't help myself. Also this doesn't mean Molon Labe is abandoned (not by a longshot).

This is played with the 1861 scenerio as the USA. All the rest will soon be explained.

Man, Grant sure isn't a nice guy so far. He's a drunkard and his life was full of scandal, well I guess that makes him a perfect 19th century monarch then doesn't it :)

No probably would have been easier. (never heard of that event)

I just made a party that i thought would reflect a monarchist grant

then i went into the save file and changed government type and party manually.

Nice Start!

Try to not Annex Sokoto in this AAR and I try to not annex USA in mine! :D

So does this mean the government of USA is now monarchy? Very interesting. I assume you still have to fight the war or no? Perhaps I will have to wait for that answer. ;) Good luck.

EZ:I guess it does. I was thinking about using either Sherman, Grant, or Custer for the US' new King

Voshkod:I looked in US event files but didn't find it. What exactly does it do?

cipollacipolla: No promises but i may even go so far as to guartantee Sokoto's independence. They seem like a perfect nation to keep the British and French in check

coz1:I am indeed a monarchy, and i won't tell anything about the ACW just yet.

What Vosh is refering to is the revolt event (which is in the regular event files as revolts its a universal thing)

And if you made Sherman king, I could get a crown!

Estonianzulu is correct; I can't remember which event it is, but there are universal revolt events for most circumstances; I used the commie one for Red Flag Falling, for example.

Looks like this AAR is going to be good, my favorites are ones where things are really crazy like this.

What are your plans for your Royal American State?

Hiram Ulysses Grant was born in Ohio on April 27, 1822. His parents were Jesse Root Grant and Hannah Simpson Grant.

On June 30, 1824 the Grants were on their way to a friend's house when a mugger ambushed the Grants and demanded their money. Hannah feared for her son's life and ran from the mugger. The mugger produced a pistol and fired a shot into Hannah's back. She staggered but continued to run. Jesse enraged lunged at the mugger.

Jesse fought the mugger with unmatched fury. The mugger drew a large knife and attempted to make Jesse run on it and impale himself. Jesse lept back grabbed the mugger's arm and slammed him into the wall. Jesse threw him to the ground and stabbed the knife deep into the mugger's chest with all his might. The mugger with the last of his strength drew a second knife and slit open Jesse's stomach.

Both men now lay dieing on the street too weak to finish each other. The mugger died soon after but Jesse was foud hours later by a passing soldier. It was decided not to move him but let him live his last moments there. With his little remaining strength Jesse told his story and a search for Hiram and Hannah began. He died shortly after midnight on June 31, 1824.

Hannah had run to a park and collapsed on the ground the with young Hiram in her arms. The next morning the search party found her lying dead on the ground. They gathered the baby and brought him in and found him without a scratch.

Now Hiram Grant, parentless and only two years old was put up for adoption. He was a wealthy businessman but was known by many as a drunk extremist. Steven Eriksson believed that the monarchy, in the end, would outlast every other government system. And there is no doubt he impressed his beliefs on his adopted son Hiram.

Eriksson had no problems gaining custody of the child and they moved to a logging company that Eriksson owned. Eriksson's house wasn't more then 10 miles from an army base. This is where Grant first got his interest in the army. He would go out to watch the soldiers drilling and marching when he was as young as 9 years old.

When he was 17 he attempted to sneak off and join then army. His father stopped his attempt, beat him, and using his wealth secured Grant a position at West Point. Due to a mix up with his name, he was accepted under the name Ulysses Simpson Grant.

He performed fairly well at West Point. He always got into trouble however when he tried to press his views on the other cadets. He was almost expelled when he got into a fight with another cadet. He had a discussion about how a King was better then a President when it broke out into a fight.

After his graduation he was sent out west to stop revolting plains tribes. His brutality and efficiency quickly earned him a reputation and a much higher rank. In 1846 when the US went to war with Mexico he commanded a division. His advance was followed by many reporters as he defeated enemy armies and out ran both his flanks and his supply lines.

His advance was stopped when Mexican government accepted the President's peace offer. Grant insulted the President for not pressing his advantage. What scared the President was that many agreed with Grant.

The President infuriated, forced Grant into retirement at only 23. He returned to Ohio where he formed a militia of 500 men with his fathers money to occupy his time. Many suggested he try to run for some political office but he refused.

In 1850 at the age of 28 his fathers company collapsed and the militia dissolved. His father was now 50 and deemed to weak to do any real work. So Grant had to travel and try to find any job. Grant then found his way to West Virginia where he became a foreman for a coal mine. He remained there until 1859 when Lincoln found out that such a hero was in such bad shape.

So Grant teamed up with Lincoln when he promised to be restored his rank. Grant campaigned with Lincoln until the last day before elections. Lincoln was elected President and Grant was restored to his rank during an elaborate ceremony in Washington DC.

Soon after Grants restoration to his the army the southern states seceeded and formed the Confederate States of America. The President in shock over this and was convinced Grant was the only man who could lead the North to victory. He promoted Grant to a full, four star General and given the army of the Potomac. His 75,000 would take part in one of the most important events in American history.

Excellent!

Nice back story for Grant. I'm worried thought that, after witnessing the death of both his parents at the hands of a mugger, he may starting putting on the black costume and a cape to fight crime.

Or he could take a harsh and extreme stance on crime and root it out viciously wherever it my occur. ;)

Come on, you can't admit it's not a bad idea (triple negative!).

Narrator: Beneath stately Grant Manor, also known as the White House, the Caped Crusader and his ward are suddenly awoken!

Grantman: The Grant Signal! Quickly, Boy Sherman, to the Grantmobile!

Boy Sherman: Holy Whiskey Breath, Grantman! Have a mint!

Well, I look forward to seeing how Grant manages to oust lincoln and establish his glorious monarchy.

I did an AAR once that had Bretman and Vauban, as superheros working for Cardinal Giodano, fighting the Protestant vikings under Barton Luther and the Mamelukes who were developing a secret weapon. I really should finish it one of these days (link in sig).
