That's something the Sea Lords will have to think through - what fleet speed to design for. Set the fleet speeed over 23 knots and it means sidelining the Nelsons (the newest BBs in the Navy and the biggest hitters); set the fleet speed over 25 knots and it means sidelining everything except the BC-hulls. On the other hand, there's not much point designing any new BBs for 30 knots if they're going to be tied to a 22-25 knot battle line. If they decide to go with 25 knots for the BBs and 30 knots for the CVs we may be seeing independent carrier forces earlier than historically...Renown was a useful old girl, largely because she (as an old-school BC) was indeed fast enough to keep up with the new nearly-30 knot CVs. The 16" power of Nelson and Rodney was difficult to apply, because of their ageing engines and because they were never designed to go faster than 24 knots anyway...
