I seem to recall that you had to do upgrades to your survey and constructors. Now it seems to go automatic. Why was that removed that you have to do the upgrades?

Because people were making themselves miserable by minmaxing to optimize their constructors and science ships, of all things.

it doesn't matter, your civ ships use the best possible equipment. minmaxing them was more trouble than it's worth. it's not like you need to optimize them to fight an enemy because if a civ ship is in a fight it will most likely die
Okay i find it hard to do all the upgrades to warships. Give me a auto upgrade feature.
