Those western garrisons seem to be tying down a number of divisions as well, which is quite nifty. I wonder how they haven't surrendered yet, though.

Chapter 9: Failed Offensive

March 15th, 1945 - April 8th, 1945

On March 15th, Hitler met with Chen Gongbo, President of the Government of the Reorganized National Government and with Kuniaki Koiso, the Prime Minister of Japan. They discussed the situation in the Far East. Koiso claimed that Chiang Kai-shek's forces are no longer advancing and that Japan is planning to launch a new offensive in China. Chen Gongbo said that situation in the Republic of China is not good because economic situation in chaos. Local residents resorted to the black market in order to obtain needed items or to influence the ruling establishment. People blame Wang Jingwei for this situation. People in rural areas support Communists and people in the cities support Chiang Kai-shek. Hitler said that after the war, Germany will support the Republic of China and Sino-German cooperation will continue just like it existed before the traitor Chiang Kai-shek destroyed those relations.

Chinese Frontline

From March 15th to March 22th, the frontline went silent. There were no battles, no nothing. Hitler feared that the Allies are preparing something huge, but nothing happened. But on March 22th, the Soviets began a massive attack on the whole Eastern Front except on the Yugoslav Front. But just three days later, they stopped the offensive.

Also, on March 22th, Adolf Hitler, the Chief of the Army for the Western Front and Alfred Jodl, the Chief of the Army for the Eastern Front met in Berlin and Hitler demanded that 8 Panzer divisions must be transported from the Eastern to Western front. Jodl agreed and said that those Panzer divisions there are just cannon fodder. Hitler said that he will start an offenisve on American enclave in Metz with those divisions.

On March 24th, Greater German Reich started to make things in the West interesting again. Six German divisions landed on the undefended beaches of Normandy. Just few hours after the landing, German division captured Caen and now they were behind main Allied troops in France.

With successful German landing in Normandy, German division attacked Dieppe.

On March 26th, Soviets and Yugoslav bandits attacked Zagreb. Although Germans with the help of Ustashe were able to defend Zagreb, 2 Croatian Home Guard divisions deserted. Day later, German forces repulsed Soviet attack on Bratislava.

On April 1st, 8 Panzer divisions attacked Metz. On April 3rd, Metz fell to German forces but also the attack on Dieppe failed. Hitler ordered 8 Panzer Divisions to move North and start a new attack on Dieppe.

After the attack failed, Hitler ordered 6 divisons in Le Havre to be evacuated. 3 Infantry Divison were evacuated but 3 Volksstrum divisions were destroyed.

Soviet attacks were stronger every day and German positions in some places were weaker every day.
But in the West, 8 Panzer Divisons prevailed and defeated 9 divisons that were defending Dieppe. But, American reinforcment arrived in time and German attack was repulsed. When the news arrived to Hitler, he was so mad and blamed the military for ruining his plans.

So first the Germans launched an invasion of France through the Ardennes in 1940... then in 1942, the Allies launched the Dieppe raid, in 1944, there was the Allied landing at Normandy, followed by a German invasion of France through the Ardennes forest, then a German landing at Normandy, to attack Dieppe... oh, I think I've gone cross-eyed

Students of this particular WWII will need a chart or something at hand to keep the battles straight
