As mentioned before, there could be an event for that Canarias thing, as seeing Portugal there is rather weird.
And rebels on an isolated island can cause a lot of problem in early game.




I haven't seen it happening unless France or some other European power 'helps' Morocco defeating Castile.
My other idea, since the island was under the Administratrion of the Order of Christ, was to have the Order as a Releasable vassal under Portugal, a bit like the Knights.
But that would require a few different ideas based on the Order of Christ. Easily doable.
Might try.

A mix of Templars (since the Order of Christ were their Portuguese Sucessors) and Knights but with a focus on overseas wars and ship boarding.

This could be pretty interesting.
I always loved the Knights, and hoped for some flavour for them, like representing it's multiculturality and the loss of manpower because of the spread of protestantism, etc...
Besides Holy Orders in 1.28 became one of the most boring, pointless and ahistorical mechanics in the game.
